Detailing tip guys! Whenever you use a wet brush to clean interior parts or door panels like that, use a blow gun to dry it instead of the towel. You'll get all the dirt in the nooks and crannys of the window controls and panel seems. Then you can use your favorite interior dressing. You'll save a ton of wiping time and get better results. I use the gun on my air vents also.
There’s quite a difference between “flooded” and completly “submerged” doesn’t matter how much you do, how much money you spend, who is going to buy it off you when it’s done. Parts car now.
I bought a 67 XKE from a guy in 1970 that he had driven off into a fresh water lagoon. It was undamaged body wise and I cleaned it up, changed oils and it ran fine- drove it for quite a while before selling it. In your situation, as a salvage yard, you could not take a chance on selling any of the driveline parts because of the silt inside them, and none of the electronics would be safe to sell either. Looks like the interior is not worth much, so you have a frame and some wheels. Maybe use it for a yard truck or donate it to a local vocational school for the kids to do mechanical and body work and take a tax write off on your cost.
The modules can be cleaned with a stiff brush and isopropyl alcohol. Let dry thoroughly. Then spray them with epoxy based conformal coating to seal the circuit board. Most people don't realize the electronics industry uses distilled water, and sometimes ultrasonic, to clean circuit boards of solder flux, etc. You can put them in the oven on a low temp to thoroughly dry them before conformal coating. It may take a lot of time to properly clean all the electronics, but it may be worth the effort.
@@ТакойтоТакой-г8у That is very true. 30+ years as an electronic engineer and it's the simple things I always assume everyone knows. LOL Between the water and corrosion definitely do NOT apply power to ANYTHING till you clean or replace the modules, connectors, etc that have been affected by the water damage. Applying power to any/all parts of the electrical system could cause more damage to fixable/cleanable modules, connectors, etc. Or possibly a fire. I wish I lived closer to Niko Brothers so I could at least offer my services to clean/repair the more expensive modules for cheap to try and save them a few bucks on this build. Done correctly it is possible, and can save a lot of money not having to replace all this stuff with new ones.
You can do an ultrasonic cleaning on all the circuit boards. I have seen computers rusted full of mud for years and still brought back to life. Yours can be fixable. Just because is corroded doesn't mean is dead. Clean, re solder and test. Do that and then decide
Y'all need to invest in a ultrasonic sink since you seem to want to do these flood vehicles. Many of the modules and electronics can be fixed in this car simply by cleaning and drying out the modules. Most of them are covered in conformal coating which protects them. The fuse box can probably be saved. Take it out and submerge it in Isopropyl Alcohol with a toothbrush and clean the boards and contacts. Find all the modules in the car and remove them and clean them the same way first in Isopropyl Alcohol with a toothbrush then in the Ultrasonic tank. I bet you can save 90% of them. From there hopefully you can replace all the fluids and try starting the vehicle. It seems bad now but I think if you can get the drive train running and driving and then you will be able to get some of your money back. The Iso and Ultrasonic sink won't cost much and would be a cheap fix to make some progress.
I detailed a couple thousand vehicles over the years and one thing I have learned if you get water in the electrical in a door like window switches and door locks and speakers that gets Water corroded also. So keep in mind you may wanna pull your door panels and check your plugs and your switches and your speakers and wires!
I would see if the drivetrain is good or bad. If that's shot, find another running and pull the parts off this that are good. Maybe the interior can be saved, as those seats are are super nice if they can be cleaned up!
Well it is a lot of work but once you've taken it all apart. The transmission, I don't know but I think there is more fluid hidden inside it internally. I never figured out how to get that fluid out. They have a machine that drains all the fluid out. The seat circuit board, if it's not burnt out taking it out and checking all the resistors and diodes and cleaning the card will do. Use only circuit contact cleaner. Spray it in all the electrical plugs, too, Good luck, keep up the good work.
i agree! And it is without a clear title. Consider the condition of all electronics, rear axle, transmission, and soft items. Rebuild: money pit. That my friends may not even be a good parts truck since the parts people need are toast. In the accounting business this is considered a "sunk cost". I think this dramatizes where they got the expression.
Quick tip you can clean printed circuit boards with an ultrasonic cleaner with waterin it and dry with isopropyl alcohol, this will remove all the corrosion leaving the board looking brand new and if none of the components are bad it might work again. Alternatively you can also scrub with isopropyl and a brush or water and dish soap but that takes a while.
Hello Nikos brothers, I believe this is a parts truck, even the seat are not good. Some comment say you can save the modules but my back experience said no way!! specially if those modules were life as they should they are far gone. The seats are moldy foam is damage. Get another truck and swap the good part out of this one if you can find good part chassis is good tranny if you take all apart and replace the internal modules (expensive) engine needs to be rebuild right of way or else it will have more corrosion rear end could be repair and sell it. But at the end is your choice also you can't not sell this truck it would be cheating 😒, don't sound good at all you guys are better than that . It's your decision at the end, good luck. See you on the next one. Good video, take care thanks 😊
My former husband bought a truck that was in a flood. The sand was in all the guages crazy. however after working on it a lot it has been running for 7-8 years now. My son-in-law drives it daily!!
I would like to see the flood truck running and driving again. Would be an awesome series! Buy a parts truck and swap everything over to the flood truck. Also dont forget to drain the water out of the fuel tank
Before you give up on the circuit boards spray they down with white vinegar and water mixture. Let them set when they are clean put them in the oven for an hour at 150- 175 degress. Take it out Let it cool. Spray it down with CRS contact cleaner. Let it dry for a few hours before plugging them back in.
If you can get to the circuit boards inside the modules, you can clean off the corrosion using a toothbrush and soapy water. Then rinse thoroughly with fresh / distilled water and dry with a hairdryer. The connecting pins can be cleaned up using a can of switch cleaner available from most electronic stores. There's a good chance the modules will come back to life. Given the probably extortionate cost of new modules you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Same with the motors....you should be able to strip them down, clean, re-grease, re-assemble and most times they'll be ok again.
I bought a 2014 Ford Focus with 60.000 miles on it,,, and I think it was in a flood ,,, it had about 5 air fresheners or more tied to the bottom of the seats and massive what looked like hail damage,,, but drives fine. The mechanics who worked on it, did a great job.
Dang Guys that tornado turned that beautiful Ram into a submarine for sure! You Guys know the numbers better than I do but it seems to me you would have to have another truck that was totaled, maybe one that was rear ended really hard so you could get most of the parts you need. I know you are $14.2K into it besides the expense of going to pick it up! So another truck would eat up any room for profit unless you ended up with things you could sell off! It's a tough call for sure because you spent some good money to get it. While seeing you Guys rebuild this truck would be interesting & great content maybe the numbers don't work. It might make more sense to make this truck a parts truck. Whatever you decide I am looking forward to the next video!
Long way to go, folks. Do with two, one, maybe, analyze the effective cost and make the best decision. I think it is 50/50 to get the parts from another unit. You are the experts. Good luck.👍👍
WOW!!!! The big thing is the electrical, some of those boards can be cleaned using an ultrasonic cleaner and some brush work. Definately lots of content or maybe find someone that would collab and fixthe boards. Good luck

It would definitely be very nice to bring this beautiful truck back to life and seen it rolling on the streets again. My personal opinion? When you pulled the dip stick on the video of you looking at the yard before the auction and it was full of water ( shopping for tornado damaged ) 20:23 would've been a run not walk moment for me

Yeah! Def not that the tornado threw it all around!
yep it was dragged on rocks on the same side that was damaged, def dragging did damage, if tornado flipped it over the roof would be flattened...
