Fantastic recipe.... I've been broading my home chef skills to add in more Vietnamese dishes, Thai and Filipino cuisines. I made this one last week for a few of my Asian friends after a late night partying, playing poker and clubbing.....they were hung over, tired but extremely hungry...believe it or not this hit there hungry spot. Trust me peeps, her recipe is on point. Thanks Hmongfood...
i like how the herbs slowly absorbed by the hot boiling water with the cooked catfish on it and it seems like they are married together to perfection. congratulations!!!
I love the Vietnamese rendition of this dish... so Annie do you know if I can add pineapple and other veggies? JW cuz I don't know if those ingredients will mess with the delicious ones you have given. Thanks!!! Cooking is such a stressful thing for me hehehehe. You make it look easy.
hi in a 16yr old boy trying to learn how to cook for my gf. it would be helpful if you keep track of the amount of Fire you use and the measurement of how long it should be cooked and how much salt and stuff like that things like that will be really helpful just for me to know and understand more but I love your cooking and I think it looks great and I hope you do take this advice and I hope you're still making more videos thank you. im also hmong.
Great recipe I will have to try it, just alittle confused about leaving the bone-in instead of just fileting it. If you could tell me how this works I'd enjoy that
Lol now I finally know what those 2 herbs called in English. Culantro and Lady's Thumb. I never knew the English name to them. Thanks. The soup looks good. Will have to try it.
although I don't have all the ingredients I will use the concepts to make a shop out of Kingfish that I bought at the Korean Market. I am enjoying learning how to cook with spices the Asian way.. Many thanks... dfk
Haha hey sis I can hear a constant beep looks like the battery on your smoke alarm is running low. Mine started to beep to the point where I took out the battery I replaced it the next week so no more beep! By the way great recipe I added some lime juice to my catfish soup but kept everything the same
I agree too.. I always add the fish last after all the stirring and adding salt.. fish are cook really fast and if you stir too much all the meat break..
Isn't the catfish soup too fatty??? I mean like super think of fish fat?? I made some one time but I thought I tasted really fatty, I notice your fish didn't have skin would this help??
I live in Minnesota, from a German family. I gotta say that fish soup is not something I think I've ever heard of. I mean I've seen it on cooking shows but I've never had it. We have a decent size Hmong community here in Minnesota. I think I'll try to hit up their neighborhoods looking for restaurants. That or convince my Hmong friend to have me over for dinner. I want to try this food.
Tried tonight....
Everyone in my family liked it very much.

PokeChue you will be able to eyeball those things with experience. Now baking is a different story.
Pretty much just eyeball measurements cus everyone like it too salty and some dont. So it really depend how much u want to put it in.
You should be studying and focused in other thing.

Could you substitute the cat fish? And if you can what would taste better? Chicken? Pork?
Lovely recipe.

will shrimp and crab be a good substitution if we don't like fish?
Mmmm! Thanks for sharing! Simple yet full of flavor!
Looks delicious Annie!
I used your recipe and it was great!!
The piano at the end of the video is lovely. Where can I find a full version of that?
Can you use any kind of fish? if you do will it taste the same ?
relaxing nice music in the background...love it.
ikr!!! What is this music?
Yummmm did you leave the bones in?
Would it be possible if we got the measurements for the chilies salt so forth and so on?
Salt to taste and for chilies if you like it spicy add more and less if don't like spicy. Our way of cooking is use as much or as little as you like.
Is there another name for it? I'm not familiar with that name
Lol now I finally know what those 2 herbs called in English. Culantro and Lady's Thumb. I never knew the English name to them. Thanks. The soup looks good. Will have to try it.

There's so many variation of this soup. The Vietnamese is a little different . Catfish should add last as catfish harden when they're over cook.

I cook like this all the time. It's a matter of how high u have ur heat on. My fish don't break.
True....the soup base is always first...seafood last because it cooks very fast....I'd still eat it though.
