To pregnant women out there: don't watch a delicious meal being cooked at 1 am when you can't have it... My mouth is watering watching this video... I'm Mexican and my hubby is Palestinian and we are HOOKED on Vietnamese food...so delish!!!!
I have searched all over the web for recipes for Vietnamese food. You have provided the best options I can find and a great way to learn pronunciations as well as a wide variety of Vietnamese food that one may not find in a restaurant. I love what you are doing and hope that you one day can be seen on TV!
Delicious recipe Helen, thank you! I made this for my Vietnamese dad, and he said it 'tasted just like home'! Your clear instructions and descriptions helped me accomplish this for the first time with flying colors. Bravo! I look forward to trying another recipes of yours soon...
I have never made this soup myself but it’s my favorite! When I found your video I had the courage to make this (twice already!) using your recipe and it has turned out soooo delicious! Thankyou for sharing all of your delicious recipes Helen!
When I made this I used catfish heads instead catfish steaks. It turned out to be delicious and made me want to learn more about Vietnamese food and cooking methods. I'm in love with Vietnamese food.
Canh chua ca kho to yummm , I am so glad she add the fried garlic at the end, I make mine oily garlic so it sizzles on top of the soup. Although no one asked me, I use less sugar water and add 100% pineapple juice.
Omg thank you Helen for showing me how to make this. I havent really had it much since my mom died when I was young. I think my dad was lazy to make it and now that I know how I can try to make it! :) Thanks a lot!
Thank you for the recipe! Hubby said it tasted better than his mom’s canh chua and that says a lot! The fried garlic at the end was what enhanced the flavor as well!!!
I've been wanting to learn how to cook vietnamese food for so long and i'm so thankful I found your channel. Thank you! You're great and I can't wait to try all your recipes!
My mom makes a very similar dish to this one. Next time when I try to replicate it I'll add the fried garlic oil ;) Thank you so much for the amazing amazing recipes!
Cam on chi rac nhieu! Canh cua ca is one of my favourite vietnamese dishes, drooling all over the place!!! Ughhhhhh im stuck at work... you know what?! going to take free from work now to make this... BYEEeeeeeeeeee
Your Great Helen. You blow me away how well you cook so many dishes and they are all excellent and your so young. You cook like a pro. I fell in luv with Tamarind and fish years ago and every time I see fish prepared this way my mouth starts to water. You make cooking look easy and I love hearing you describe what your doing. It is fun to hear what the meal costs to make as well. Cost is important to meal planning. KEEP the Recipes coming. Peace Girl, you Rock.
i go directly to your channel whenever i needed help.... the flavoring is perfect for this one. the fried garlics made a huge difference in fragrance.... amazing Helen. Thank You!
This looks so flavorful, colorful, and full of textures! I will make it the next time I drive two hours and spend over $20 on all the ingredients, lol. Thanks for your Vietnamese food recipes!
For me, I usually have standard pantry items on hand like garlic and shallots. Everything else at my Asian supermarket costs around $2 except the fish. Overall around $25 for the first batch. I always end up with way too much extra vegetables/fruits, enough for 1-2 more batches, so this lowers the cost of the recipe to just $15 to account for the need to buy more fish. I cook with salmon, which is more expensive than catfish. I'd say overall it's 1/3 the cost of restaurant takeout.
This is so awesome! I always wanted to start learning how to cook. Glad you made this video. Do you also have a video for your Ca kho to ? It's looks epic!
So happy to see this recipe! I've always made sour soups using a packet -- so much salt! This recipe gives me confidence to use tamarind paste instead :)
Wow! That looked sooooo yummy !!! I had this for the first time, when I was on a trip and it was sooo good! Unfortunately, I live in the Boon of New Hampshire.... It will be hard to find all these ingredients! OMG, I want to make this sooooo bad! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thank you for your videos. I'm trying your recipe today. The only thing I don't have is the rice paddy herb 😞 I can't get it here in Iowa, USA. Please keep up the good work!

The fresh pineapples are also my favorite in the soup. I always try to get to them first. LOL! Helen has a bun rhieu recipe up on her channel. I forget if it's done in Vietnamese with English subtitles or not, though. I think it is, but it's doable if you don't understand Vietnamese since you can print up the recipe and just follow along with what she's doing in the video. :)
