@@ChrisMaherDIY Not the OP, but yes, Hyperion has everything this box offers except HDMI switching - I already had one upstream as we have lots of consoles and devices fed to one HDMI port on this TV. If you have the RaspPi (I used a old 3B+), it's just LEDs, a power supply and HDMI-to-USB conversion box, all-in, around $50. Works great, but is more DIY. But I also got a of options to fine-tune to meet and exceed my expectations. The system works great regardless of content, 4K, HDR, 120Hz, etc. It also can ignore black-bars on letterbox movies, which is a plus.
@@ChrisMaherDIY Some great answers given by user-bd6bd8ii9k already. I used HyperHDR (fork of Hyperion). Config was relatively straightforward. To be honest, I just wanted to have some fun with the Raspberry Pi and even used 144/M led strips (just because 🙃). Has been working as expected. Biggest pain in the backside I had was with the cable management.
@@CubbyTech just google HDMI USB capture card. There are many options from less then $20 to over $100. It all depends on what LED strip controller you have. HyperHDR has recommended USB capture cards that work well with the software. I already had a WS21X 12V Led strip on my tv. That controller is not supported by HyperHDR, so it took some tweaking and trial and error to get it to an acceptable end result.
Just bought this and the G4 83”.. some motivation to finally finish my remodel 😂😂😂 I have to mount this at my fireplace with a pull down mount I’m wondering if the leds would be better at a 45deg angle since it won’t be directly at a wall once pulled down to viewing height My thinking is the 45 degree angle would direct some of the light straight up while some still goes straight back Will report back next week if I remember !!
Thanks for watching! I still havn't tried the hyperhdr diy rout but its still something I think would be fun to try. Can you make the hyperhdr to play nice with 4k, 120hz, hdr, vrr and all the other stuff?
@@ChrisMaherDIY lots of different ways you can setup capture on hyperhdr. Currently I am running it on my TV directly and the capture on my TV directly as well. Then connect hyperhdr to my wled controller over the network. It works pretty well.
I am deciding between getting a frame screen, or doing this with the lights. this looks like the back lighting is annoying a lot. I am torn between the 2 options.
Surely it should be possible to connect to ARC port on tv and box + return HDMI to allow tv apps to work with it much like you would connect a soundbar?
ARC is audio return channel u will never get back video on this port and they never going to make such a port, cuz u would be able to copy the protected contents. In theory it is possible to convert the internal LVDS port (the port which goes to the lcd inside the tv) back to dvi. There is few IC-s on the market which able to do such a job like this, altough i have never seen any PCB yet. Currently what u can buy is only converting the HDMI signal to LVDS but not backward.
Und was ist mit tv Apps die gehen nicht oder geht das nur mit ein hdmi Eingang zb Apple TV Box Fire Stick oder ps5 ?

So if you use Netflix or Prime (or any other streaming app) you need to access those through something like a PS5 hooked into the tv with hdmi rather than the built in tv apps. Is that correct?
How well does the base box work with different video sources? I didn’t see a remote in the product shots on their site and I’m wondering how it works with an Xbox (or other console) that turns on/off and a computer that might just be on all the time.
Try with denser(144/m) strip, it looks much better, the colors split like a blurred extension of the screen to the wall, not just 'ambient' The only real problem is still the same, only works on hdmi inputs, the camera solution is good because it works on the built in smart features(netflix prime etc) not just on external. You can also use a raspberry for faster color switching(lower latency)
Great Video! Since the Govee sync box 2 just launched, will you do video for that one aswell? Would be awesome to see a comparision or just your thoughts on the pro/ cons of each. Always struggling in purchase decisions like these.
Damn, this makes anime look even more amazing. I hope it looks just as good without the TV being mounted. Since I rent, I want to avoid damaging the walls as much as possible, so I've not mounted mine (repainting the wall also means contending with my living room's 15 or 20ft ceiling...and given how chaotic moving can be, I want to add as little extra stuff as possible).
Hello. I like this but am concerned with the lighting movements matching the action sequences. DS for example. Are there options in the app to lock in static lighting as opposed to dynamic?
So dope. My ecosystem is all Govee at this point, so hopefully they will put something out soon thats as good as this. Great video and great job to FancyLEDs
Just installed a hyper hdr setup with wled on a d1mini driving sk6812cw. Im very impressed with the outcome as its going via wifi. I dont notice any lag between colour changes. Its not 100% colour perfect but with the ability to download the lut files and calibrate hyperhdr im sure i can make it work out. Its a very involved bit if software. For about £60 worth of kit im very happy. Amzing that the scyn box does 144hz definitely where that comes into its own without the faff of a diy setup. Great vid as always!
Iguess that the sync does not work for content that is derectly played on the Tv without an external device, right? For example with the native netflix app that comes loaded on the Tv
Yes you guessed right. The device analyses to HDMI signal that passes through. As theres is no signal when you use the built-in apps there's nothing for the device to analyse.
I think the $300 price tag is what's keeping most people from getting into this kinda stuff! though, it's ironic, because I'm looking at dropping another zero on that price tag for a 100" tv setup... speaking of which, do you have recommendation for wall-size tvs? everything I can find seems to say to get a projector but I really, REALLY do not want to be limited to medium-darkness room viewing and fan noise.
1. No "wall sized" TVs for under $25k on the market. I am taking on clients if you want to know what those options are. If you have $26k to drop on a TV, you can afford me. 2. A legitimate 2,000 ANSI Lumen projector with an Ambient Light Rejection (ALR) screen comes in at about $5k.
@@TheOfficialOriginalChad I've sampled about a dozen of those kinds of projectors, both UST and traditional throw, on various 'modern' screens, including a few that looked pretty decent, but... I still, very much, do not want most of the compromises that come with a projector. Even the best ALR projection screens still only reduce ambient brightness by around 20-30%, which is simply not acceptable in large-window rooms during daylight - I enjoy light around the whole room, not just the screen. With that said, though, a ~$3000 100" television is about 7.3' x 4.2', which is plenty big for most 'wall size' TV ideas I had, that still allows for a minimalist entertainment center/console/table beneath, and LED stripping around the TV itself. After all, an ambilight clone is useless on a literal wall-sized TV ;) It's interesting to hear about the budget, though. It boggles my mind how the price seems to rise exponentially for that kind of size. I would rather buy a car or a house with that kind of money, than just a screen :)
At 250+ $ where is the avantage to take it when you can buy a Philips Ambilight? (for my personal case i'm interested by this but the price is over the difference between a standard oled tv like LG vs a philips oled ambilight).
Hi, great video. I have a Bravia theatre quad sounds system. Do you have any tips how i should hook up my Theatre Quad, my TV and this LED light system together?
Any compatibility with home automation like Home Assistant? I would also love to do this behind a projector screen and it's 120 inches... does the interface let you adjust the number of LEDs?
It does have google and alexa support so i'm sure there is some compatibility with home assistant but I have not personally tried it out. No support for that size yet. Hopefully they will since a projector setup would be epic. No interface for adjusting the number of leds so it must do that automatically behind the scenes once they are cut!
I have the same question; I have a DIY using Raspberry Pi and Hyperion and have created automations to turn on/off with Harmony Remote when Kodi starts which is great. So I'm wondering if this box works with Home Assistant? Do you need to manually turn on/off FancyBox, or does it turn on when you turn the Xbox, Apple TV, etc on?
Home Assistant integration is on the list for them, something that's been talked about for a while, but they've been busy pumping out new lights and upgrades to the boxes. Hopefully that'll be a quite soon realised feature.
So, question...My current setup has one HDMI run from my TV through the wall down to my surround sound system (HDMI ARC), and each hdmi input connects to the surround sound system. If I were to purchase this, would I install it in between the TV and surround sound, or hook up each hdmi input to the sync box and then one output to the surround sound and then keep the hdmi arc to and from the tv?
@ they responded to me via email, and said that “while they have not tested the device with every audio interface possible, they have not encountered any that don’t still allow ARC functionality” The company said that either of my proposed configurations should work just fine.
Hello.I bought the 2.1 sync box and have the same TV as you Bravia 8 but my screen keeps going black when I connect my PS5 through it.Did you had any tech issues with it or is it some setting I need to change ?
I really love this product! However, I've had Lytmi in the past with a major issue and FancyLeds now and it seems to be a universal problem with led sync boxes. If the top and the bottom of the screen is dark, sometimes the lights will flicker in and out of black bar mode. And it really sucks because it almost happens every time I use my tv :(. Hopefully these companies can figure out how to solve that issue! Then these boxes would be perfect!
how does the sync box do when subtitles are present in content? noticed a lot of the anime scenes used didn’t have any visible subtitles and wondering how the box handles the scenes that do
This looks excellent and is an encouraging step in the right direction for making this available to the masses. At the top of the video, you mentioned that this box support ARC and eARC, and said you’d talk about it later. I’m not sure you brought that back up, but in my opinion, it’s not the inability for previous sync boxes to supposed 4k120 (and other gaming specs/options) that’s keeping people from buying, but rather it’s the majority of people use their TV as the source for all their content. That’s the whole reason ARC was invented, so the audio that’s being generated by the TV (built in apps) can be sent to an external audio system. So my question to you is is that the bit you were going to talk about later in the video? You mentioned you were playing Lion King from Disney+; were you doing that via the TV’s app? Or via your Shield? I think the bigger barrier to entry for the masses is that the masses use the TV’s apps and I have yet to see a sync box that can handle that. Thoughts?
How can a sync box that relies only on HDMI pass through sync with a tvs built in apps?? Its impossible to do that unless a tv had a video OUT port to send the video signal out of a tv and into the sync box. No tv that i have ever seen has this ability.
Very nice color reproduction! Turning off the lights where it's completely black is amazing. Did you have a chance to test a Dolby Atmos system/soundbar and check if it outputs the sound correctly. I know they all advertise the best video standard ompability, unfortunately no info on audio Thanks again for the review!
I have a first gen Govee camera thingy and that thing is ... acceptable. But there's so much lacking with it that I've been looking to replace it forever, but the most important feature that was missing for me was actually ARC. I don't know if there's any other products that allow for this, since I don't obsess over finding a solution or anything, but stumbling across this lets me know that it at least exists now which is huge. I need that ARC because I use my apple tv with homepods for my audio lol
Is there anything similar on the market (in terms of color accuracy and response time) that supports Displayport 2.1 or with a box that get's the color information via USB? I want to use it with a PC, on the 57 inch Samsung 32:9 monitor. So HDMI 2.1 is not an option.
How well does it switch between inputs? I haven't seen any videos about that. Does it do a good job auto switching or do you sometimes need to use the app to switch them?
hi.. great review.. can you pls possibly share some of these wallpapers / screensavers / videos.. shown around 4:25-4:55, 6:00-:6:30, 8:38-8:48 and 9:15 to 10:15..? they look amazing! i understand some of these must be around lofi playlists as i have some similar ones.. but these look so beautiful.. would highly appreciate, thanks!
You know what would be a nifty device that maybe DOES exist...I've always used addressable LEDS for all my projects since they became more popular...but i Have some non addressable leds laying around. Wouldn't it be cool...if you could have an adapter that makes WLED or any other controller, see a strip of NON addressable leds as 1 single pixel. That way you could tie into the end of this strip, and grab the last pixels signal to put under your couch, or something. Obivously it wouldnt be perfect in this situation because it would be only grabbing 1 pixel's information...but I'm sure there's tons of uses for such an adapter. What do you think about my idea? And/or does it already exist? LOVE your led content and watch it constantly.
Can we get a comparison between these and the Govee Sync Box 2? I think they're both really good systems, but I feel your testing of them would put the pros and cons into perspective as to which one is better
I'm thinking of replacing my Govee TV Backlight T2. I never could get the tracking to work correctly. However, wasn't there an issue with these HDMI-approach units in that routing the signal through them compromised the signal? Is there any signal deterioration in this new version?
2 questions. 1. I've got 65" TV. If I'll buy 56-65 option will it cover the whole TV length like as shown in the video or would have to buy 70-95 option? 2. Will I still be able to use my TV remote to change the inputs or I need to use Fancy Leds one? How this works? Thanks
What about HDCP content? And is the dedicated whitr LED Cool or warm or is it tuneable? Finally what about alexa and Google home integration if you want to set lights to different colors when the TV is off?
What would be the optimal distance between the TV and the wall for a nice diffusion of the lights? I assume if it's too close then we might see individual lights, if its too far we lose position details. Can you share what that distance is for you? Great video btw! :)
Thanks for watching! Yeah there have been other sync boxes that have pretty much perfected the color matching but it was always the extra stuff that was the issue. 4k, 120hz, vrr, allm, cec, arc, hdr etc. Hopefully this is now the bar for which all future setups will be able to incorporate!

What Videos are from 4:25 on showing? Could you provide the list? Would be super cool.
Me at 2:33 would have been like dayum i need a bigger tv.
Love how you show us how to reuse the exta thank you my 50 year old dad brain would be “dayum i bet i can reuse this some how, i should save it. 😂
Thank you for addressing HDR.
I just picked up the Govee Syncbox 2, with HDMI 2.1, and the performance in SDR is great.
HDR is terrible though, no matter how I configure it.
I'll be picking up one of these ASAP, and returning the Govee.
Im going to do the same thing! Is it an improvement?
Thanks for the video!! :) Is that possible to connect the leftover LED strip to a usb c cable and use it as a secondary? Would it work if i just connect to the sync box??
I went down the DIY route with a Raspberry Pi / capture card last year. But this looks so simple to setup. Very nice!
Thats awesome! How did it turn out? Does is have the same features as this sync box? At some point i think it would be fun to do the diy option as well!
@@user-bd6bd8ii9k Can you share which HDMI to USB conversion box you used? @ChrisMaherDIY This would make a great project / video!
I purchased the HDMI 2.1 which has less LEDs than the model in the video. Looks good so far.
Just bought this and the G4 83”.. some motivation to finally finish my remodel 😂😂😂
I have to mount this at my fireplace with a pull down mount
I’m wondering if the leds would be better at a 45deg angle since it won’t be directly at a wall once pulled down to viewing height
My thinking is the 45 degree angle would direct some of the light straight up while some still goes straight back
Will report back next week if I remember !!
Chris! totally pumped! I already made my own with hyperhdr and picap on my rooted LG C9. But this setup looks great!
@@MarkGhalithis sounds really cool! Any videos or links to where I can find more info?
Using ws2814 is a good idea and definitely get an ezcoo hdmi splitter with scaler for dv and hdr support.
I have 110 inch projector screen. Can I extend the led strip on this or is there any other product
Does this not work with the phillips hue option?
How well does the base box work with different video sources? I didn’t see a remote in the product shots on their site and I’m wondering how it works with an Xbox (or other console) that turns on/off and a computer that might just be on all the time.
Try with denser(144/m) strip, it looks much better, the colors split like a blurred extension of the screen to the wall, not just 'ambient'
The only real problem is still the same, only works on hdmi inputs, the camera solution is good because it works on the built in smart features(netflix prime etc) not just on external.
Thanks for watching! I'm excited to see what they come out with!
Does this work with in built apps like Netflix? I have a Sony bravia TV and was wondering what's the best strip for it
Just installed a hyper hdr setup with wled on a d1mini driving sk6812cw.
After all, an ambilight clone is useless on a literal wall-sized TV ;)
It's interesting to hear about the budget, though. It boggles my mind how the price seems to rise exponentially for that kind of size. I would rather buy a car or a house with that kind of money, than just a screen :)
@ sorry, I didn’t realize you lived in a tree house, where walls are 4.2’ tall.
@@TheOfficialOriginalChad Some of us are indeed not making 20,000 dollars per client :)
@@StormBurnX 😂
This is pretty sweet. How does the system know what size your TV is or how long you cut the LED strip?
At 250+ $ where is the avantage to take it when you can buy a Philips Ambilight? (for my personal case i'm interested by this but the price is over the difference between a standard oled tv like LG vs a philips oled ambilight).
Hi, great video. I have a Bravia theatre quad sounds system. Do you have any tips how i should hook up my Theatre Quad, my TV and this LED light system together?
Hi Chris, what's the best option for 98" TV?
I’m also looking for this info… and if audio codecs such as Dolby Atmos will passthrough…
@ they responded to me via email, and said that “while they have not tested the device with every audio interface possible, they have not encountered any that don’t still allow ARC functionality”
The company said that either of my proposed configurations should work just fine.
@@clarkknowlen748so would you need to connect your surround system directly to the tv or the sync box?
I'd really like to know where to buy those corners for bending LED strips on their own. The kit looks great though.
I know they all advertise the best video standard ompability, unfortunately no info on audio
Thanks again for the review!
Damn now I wanna ditch my Nanoleaf camera based system for these! Will these connect to Home Assistant so I can automate when I want them on?
this device don't work with your TV applications like netflix right ?
How is it compared to the Govee AI Sync Box Kit 2?
So whats the added latency for connected game consoles? Thats important for gamers i think
How do you change the FancyLED box to tv, game console, etc ? Or is it automatic when you change the input on your tv ?
What about input lag when competitive gaming? Is it a problem?
What about if my pc uses diff picture settings to my ps5?
How's the tv going to change the settings when using only 1 hdmi input?
I really like your tv wall mount, is there a video or amazon link you can give? Lg cx Oled 65 inch
Greetings from germany
is it possible to have the lights automatically work at a specific times? I would like to have it on when its dark outside
I need that ARC because I use my apple tv with homepods for my audio lol
does it still look good at low brightness since it doesn't come with a diffuser?
If I connect my pc direct to the box. Do you know if this will work for my PC movies and games?
Is there anything similar on the market (in terms of color accuracy and response time) that supports Displayport 2.1 or with a box that get's the color information via USB?
I want to use it with a PC, on the 57 inch Samsung 32:9 monitor. So HDMI 2.1 is not an option.
so you cant use it with in built apps ?
I've been looking for this to add for my TVs.
Now to just wait for a similar product for PC monitors and can use displayport.
How’s the latency? Not of the light response/ but added latency to gaming/ controller input for example?
Does this work with in-tv apps? Or is it any workaround?
Great! Do you maybe know how this works with a hdmi 2.1 av-receiver, where all devices are plugged in there?
Source -> AV -> Fancy LED box -> TV
Would you recommend this or the Signal RGB method?
What about support for the TVs native / in built apps that don't utilise HDMI out?
How well does it switch between inputs? I haven't seen any videos about that. Does it do a good job auto switching or do you sometimes need to use the app to switch them?
How does this compare to the new Govee Syncbox 2?
How does the Fancybox know how many LEDS are in your run?! So curious!
Ooof, €300 for a hdmi passthrough box and an LED strip. It looks amazing but that price feels excessive.

Hey what about movies where u have 21:9 image on a 16:9 screen, so black bars on top and bottom? Thinking about it, It would look weird
Discount code?
Thanks for the video. I may get this. What’s the best way to set it up if I had a Sonos arc?
Anyone know how these things perform with a darker wall behind the TV? Mine is a blue-ish grey
Will this work on my 150" projector screen?
This is what I've been waiting for! Great review! Now let hurry up and buy it before Amazon jacks up the price. 😁
Hey Chris, do you know if the Fancy box can sync with the Nanoleaf skylight and Govee lightstrips?
Can we get a comparison between these and the Govee Sync Box 2? I think they're both really good systems, but I feel your testing of them would put the pros and cons into perspective as to which one is better
I'm thinking of replacing my Govee TV Backlight T2. I never could get the tracking to work correctly.
However, wasn't there an issue with these HDMI-approach units in that routing the signal through them compromised the signal? Is there any signal deterioration in this new version?
Great vid! This is definitely going on the new TV! Thanks for sharing!
Why Not a discount Code for this product?
2 questions. 1. I've got 65" TV. If I'll buy 56-65 option will it cover the whole TV length like as shown in the video or would have to buy 70-95 option?
2. Will I still be able to use my TV remote to change the inputs or I need to use Fancy Leds one? How this works?

@@djz3r063 you might not have the 96 led/meter strip or the dedicated white led. Otherwise I think functionality would be the same!
How well does the CEC work? Do they turn off with the TV?
What would be the optimal distance between the TV and the wall for a nice diffusion of the lights? I assume if it's too close then we might see individual lights, if its too far we lose position details. Can you share what that distance is for you? Great video btw! :)
I'm fine with 7" from the wall. Any closer and it seems too direct off the wall.
Great Video! Where can I find these LED's? I cant seem to find the WS2814 12v with 96 Led/m LED's anywhere.
Used to have a DreamScreen box many many years ago and it worked just like this. Glad to see other companies figuring it out
Thanks for watching! Yeah there have been other sync boxes that have pretty much perfected the color matching but it was always the extra stuff that was the issue. 4k, 120hz, vrr, allm, cec, arc, hdr etc. Hopefully this is now the bar for which all future setups will be able to incorporate!
