Hey folks! Since this video is taking off a few years down the road, I just wanted to drop a message. Thank you so so much for all your kind words. I'm speechless. This channel has always been something I've done time-permitting and evolved between different subjects. Most of all I'm really passionate about design projects. Interiors, products, anything thoughtful created. So in the next few months, stay tuned for more videos. I'm starting a blog and newsletter on lunationlab.com. I'm moving soon and will have a whole office space ready for projects. Exciting stuff! Talk soon. -Jackson
you should make a video about how you did the lighting in your bedroom in your opening shot! That looks amazing and I would love to see how you did that!
Quick tip to avoid the splitting of the wood. Drill pilot holes in the wood before using the wood screws. Pilot holes are drilled with drill bits that are typically the diameter of the screw minus the threads. Seems like more steps but it goes quick. And since the base board was mdf you only need the pilot holes in the wood.
Came here to say the same thing ... a year late :) also get a countersink bit. I love my countersunk screws. So smooth--significant upgrade in how my projects feel
That's great to hear! It's all about adding your personal touch to your style. Have fun experimenting with different looks and keep rocking that coordinated outfit and accessories with your moustache!
You're welcome! I believe that putting effort into my outfit and accessories not only reflects my personal style, but also shows respect for those I interact with. Looking put-together is important to me, and I'm glad you noticed.
Thank you! I appreciate the compliment. I take pride in coordinating my outfit and accessories to create a cohesive look. It's all about attention to detail and creating a stylish appearance.
Thank you so much! I always try to coordinate my look, including my moustache, with the lights around me for a cohesive and stylish aesthetic. It's all about attention to detail and creating a harmonious visual effect.
Thank you! I always try to coordinate my outfit and accessories with my moustache to create a cohesive and stylish look. It's all about attention to detail and making a statement!
It’s important to note that as length increases, voltage will drop and the tape will start to progressively dim… it’s a good idea to test first and find that diminishing point so you know where to start a new strip to minimize the effect of the voltage drop. In some applications, with the use of a 2>1 cable, you can split the power and send it to both sides of the strip. This varies based on if you’re using a dimmer ahead of the tape or not
2 Things to consider: 1. It will collect house dust. Solution is to have a clear or frosted plastic strip run along the top. 2. If you get an RGB + Bi Colour Warm & Cool White LED strip, you can make the strip go through all the sunlight colour spectrum. From peak bluish daylight, to sunset red. This way you can match the outside light and preserve natural circadian rhythms. (FYI blue light is actually good, just at the right time (middle of the day). Blue light is only bad once the sun has gone down.)
7:20 you can also drill a smaller hole with a drill bit before drilling the screw, so that there is less material to expand when the screw goes in, and also you already have a guide for the screw to follow.
Just recreated this for my apartment living room. It came out SO good! Thanks for the inspiration and helpful tutorial 😁 One adjustment I made was to attach the strip lights to a piece of bent aluminum (I just folded some aluminum foil until it was rigid enough) This allowed me to adjust the angle of the lights so they're not facing straight up. The metal will also absorb the heat of the LEDs better than wood
50 seconds in and already hit the like button, thanks for keeping this video up, I'm trying to light my apartment. Bought some string lights and realized it just didn't look as intentional and cohesive as I'd hoped. I'm well past the "dorm room" stage of things and I needed a more coordinated solution. THANK YOU!
dude i genuinely can’t believe this channel only has 5k subs from an amazing video from 2 years ago. this is such a peculiar but insanely formal, and entertaining video. The editing, the camera quality, the lighting (ironic, in a video studying aesthetic lighting lol) it’s all so tasteful!!! thank you so much for sharing this when you did. always know that just cuz a video didn’t blow up right away, it also isn’t voided from blowing up and being seen in the future. so always create. always share. keep doing. the payoff is undeniably worth it in the end. thank you.
Thank you for your kind words! I appreciate the encouragement and will definitely continue putting effort into my style. It's fun to experiment and express myself through fashion. Your support means a lot to me!
Thank you for the encouragement! I agree, fashion is all about expressing yourself and having fun. I will definitely continue to rock my moustache with confidence and experiment with different styles. Keep on shining!
Great video! It looks great. A few notes from someone who has done a lottt of LED lighting: (1) 24 V is almost always better than 12 V so you can use longer strands without becoming dim at the end (2) Get high-CRI lights, otherwise the color of people and other things in the room will be off, usually quite significantly (3) Get variable color temperature lights so you can vary them based on time of day and improve your circadian rhythm (4) Get a zigbee (or WLED) controller so you can integrate with your smart home (Home Assistant is the best!)
Haven’t even gotten through the video yet but I just wanted to say thank you for having a voiceover for the text on screen, that goes along way to making me follow your content and be able to know what’s going on so props to you for that! Fantastic integration of accessibility :-)
How the hell do you not have soooo many more subscribers? Magnificent video, perfectly executed and so high quality. Love your calm tone of voice. And you still deliver excitement for the topic. Absolutely awesome!
Thank you for the compliment! It's always nice to receive positive feedback on my style choices. I believe that taking the time to put together a well thought out outfit shows that I care about how I present myself to others. I'm glad that my efforts are appreciated.
I'm grateful for your positive feedback on my style. It motivates me to keep exploring and sharing my personal fashion sense. Thank you for your encouragement and support along the way!
one major issue i see with this design is that you will see the pixel tape from above. professional lighting designers go to great lengths to hide the tape from all viewing angles. i would suggust placing the tape on the side of the molding, and putting a strip of wood above it to hide the tape. then paint everything white on the interior to maximize the amount of light pushed out.
i'm torn because i love this bespoke homemade approach to lighting, but at the same time i feel like those diodes are super visible just standing near the fixture. would have loved to see the incorporation of a diffuser like you showed in the beginning of the video to reduce glare!
Neat idea and solution to a common renter dilemma. I wonder how much your build collects dust and pet hair over time, and if it might be a good idea to put a diffusing plastic cover over the strip to make it easier to vacuum, and prevent hair from getting stuck on a diode.
Great build! Suggestion to help the light bounce even further: Silver Aluminum Tape. Stuff's highly reflective and will serve to help bounce the light further, if that's what you'd want. Really enjoyed this, and can't wait to try it out myself!
I have something smiliar and it is a huge dust catcher and not so easy to celan because of that small gap. Just invest few more bucks for a smooth plexiglass cover for the top :) Great video!
Just a question: You now have a gap which will collect dust and you can actually see the light from above right ? Or am I missing something ? Thanks if you reply
Honestly, inverting this and mounting it in the ceiling I think would look so much cooler. Don’t get me wrong, it does looks cool. But I think mounting this in the ceiling can make it look like a proper built-in recessed lighting
You're welcome! I appreciate your kind words and am thrilled that my style resonates with you. Your support means the world to me, and I'm excited to continue showcasing my unique fashion perspective. Thank you for being a wonderful source of inspiration and encouragement!
Hey, nice video and apartment. You can drill pilot holes in your corner molding (or anything you're trying to put screws through, really) to prevent it from splitting.
That was really well done. I was looking for a solution to do mostly down lighting in baseboards, but this has me realizing that so long as it is diffuse lighting it pretty much always looks great.
I don't know who you are, don't know what you do, don't know what's the channel is about but saw this video only halfway through and already loved it, clicked that like button, subscribed and looking forward to future videos.
I might do this like, this week, with an Ikea shelf that's currently just my media console. I could literally clean it up, stick the strip to the back and be done
Do you have an update on how well the self-adhesive on the light strips has adhered? In my experience the provided adhesive is not the greatest. I like to add a cushy double stick like Gorilla mounting tape, especially if the strip is attached to a vertical surface. Then again, maybe the adhesive has improved in recent years.
My problem with things like this is the depth. I love the idea, but 2in baseboards are a huge no-go for me, especially since I already have .75in baseboards in my place with 1in quarter-round. I need a solution that minimizes the depth so that 1) it is easier to install without having to move everything in my apartment and 2) it looks better. It'd also be nice to be capped so that dust and debris can't get down in the cavity.
We moved out of the hood to a condo and the upstairs bedrooms don't have ceiling lights. You'd think I'd be bummed but id take no ceiling lights over being in our old neighborhood anyway and it gives me the perfect opp to set up a rwnter friendly indirect led lighting
those self taper screws are made to dig not to drill. if you want to fasten anything with it, drill a hole in the material you want to attach so the screws only dig into the base material
Amazing video. The dimmer has been the solution to all my problems but unfortunately the link is no longer working and an Amazon search has not returned a working substitute just yet. I found outlet dimmers, but not specifically ones for string lights. Maybe further searching will do. :)
This is the most millennial project (soft string lighting a millennial gray rented city apartment behind a bike) accomplished with the most boomer skills (carpentry through three methods of wood joining, cutting to length, and rewiring internal electrical from AC120V To DC12V and extension cord).
Hey can I ask, are you doing your own editing on these videos or do you contract that out? I love the cuts, graphics, and effects and would love to hire whoever is helping you if you’re not doing this yourself.
Trying to add brighter lighting to my room... Are these LED light strips actually bright enough to make a difference? Or are they just "a cool effect"?
Dope video man. Definitely will help in adding an atmosphere to the room. Random question though, what is the name of the song playing in the background of Act 2?
Just a heads up, if the power supply is sending dc, you may end up with low voltage/flickering leds if your wire is too long. Dc is like throwing a baseball.
You can avoid splitting you angle molding by pre-drilling and countersinking your holes. Torque doesn't matter, other than the fact that it drives the screw in further, applying greater wedge force at the hole. If you want it to last, add glue to the joint. The screws will be your clamps.
Echoing what everyone said already: Nice build, you’ve got a super soothing voice and vibe, clean editing look - definitely checking out more videos and subscribing! // I am curious: How is this to clean, since the baseboard doesn’t sit flush with the wall? Do you just vacuum with an extension behind the board?
Thank you very much. I'm still here and planning on getting back into it! I adding a couple photos to answer your question in the article: lunation.cc/m3w

you should make a video about how you did the lighting in your bedroom in your opening shot! That looks amazing and I would love to see how you did that!
I'm sorry, but sticking my baseboards out from the wall and leaving an ugly gap along all my walls is not the most visually pleasant thing
i like how you make all the lights match your moustache
lmao :D
soft and warm?
Bruh 😂😂😂💀
lmfao
Not just the lights, just about everything in the entire video

So _that's_ why I'm meant to drill pilot holes, TIL

How did you automate the lighting to match sunlight?
Thank you for being as detailed . . makes all the difference between actually accomplishing it and getting merely halfway done.
Your channel is super under rated , the editing and cinematography is amazing! Keep up the good work

Indeed, it's a good, informative video I was looking for. I'm surprised it has so few likes. Thank you!
Great tips. But my problem would be the dust it could gather. I might go for lamps.
How would you do this for a place with existing baseboards?

Love the design, and the design in the video. Handsome guy as well.
Can't say I disagree.
You are what diffused lighting would look like if it's a person.
Do you find that dirt/lint gets trapped within the gap?
Would love to see the angle where the gap is visible, to gauge how noticeable it is.

Great question. I added a couple photos to answer in the article: lunation.cc/m3w
@@LunationLab great article!
Clever and simple. Nice.
Nice look. Try hightemp hot glue or cyanoacrylate glue and/or predrilling for the screws.
good video! Im sure you know by now, but if you drill the correct sized pilot hole before using screws, you wont split the wood as easily
To avoid splitting wood in the future, I heard it was a good idea to drill a pilot hole. Very nice video !
nice. tat would also make a cool lighted picture frame.
This is a great idea and I may figure out a way to do this is my next renovation. Good job !

any video on how to hide the wires for those lights for the frames behind you?
