This is my third time watching this video from three different classes in college. I still love watching it because jesus this guys voice is entertaining.
Thank you! I am reviewing these with my EFL graduate students here in Japan. This video was simple, fun, and I liked the geek jokes! You can't go wrong with Star Wars or Princess Bride, although I think my Japanese students were unfamiliar with the latter...
A good paraphrase for me would be this - Way deep in the galaxy, Rebel forces were able to lift off technical details for the first Death star, and were able to penetrate the battle station and destroy this Imperial planet. But now, in the Hoth valley, the Imperial forces are trying to wreak revenge on the Rebel forces, with one big goal---to capture the bounty prize---rebel Luke Skywalker, whom Darth Vader was so profoundly destined to go at, to force Luke to return to the dark side, and forcing Luke to reveal that he is the son of that dreaded evil Sith. That's my paraphrase, since I saw "The Empire Strikes Back" lots of time.
Such an awesome guide! I learnt about Summarizing, Paraphrasing, and Quoting while also knowing the context of star wars! Definitely hit two birds with one stone.
I feel smarter just from listening to the video and she presents the learning in such a great manner , I can't help but want to be better at what she is explaining to better ways with paraphasing , which I find to be very difficult most of the time , I shall continue to try like the she explains it, In this learning video . And because she seems to really wants a learning audience and struggling students such as myself to get the ideas presented in a logical and sincable order for us to grasp it with stlye too , .akes it that much better of a learning video and for some of those reasons . I say she's a good teacher ! 😃 🌟 🌟 🌟🌟🌟
Everything that we write, which includes analysis, is a summary or a paraphrase of everything we have read. THE RULE IN PLAGIARISM IS: CITE THE SOURCES FOR YOUR SUMMARIES and PARAPHRASES. So, to avoid plagiarism CITE EACH SENTENCE! The rules on plagiarism is ridiculous. There are a lot of topics in Covid-19, Climate Justice or International Criminal Law on Complementarity principle. Yet, the writers are not charged with plagiarism even if what they have written were merely summaries or paraphrases taken from other similar works. Rule of thumb: Each SENTENCE must be cited!
It was a great tutorial even you don't to it anymore. I did't know how to do for summarization and paraphasing, now you give me a hint. The comparison on acceptable and unacceptable approaches make the tutorial more interesting. At least it's not bored like some others. Thank you for your sharing.
1. "The Antarctic is the vast source of cold on our planet, just as the sun is the source of our heat, and it exerts tremendous control on our climate," [Jacques] Cousteau told the camera. "The cold ocean water around Antarctica flows north to mix with warmer water from the tropics, and its upwellings help to cool both the surface water and our atmosphere. Yet the fragility of this regulating system is now threatened by human activity." From "Captain Cousteau," Audubon (May 1990):17. Paraphrasing According to Cousteau Antarctic a cold reservoir plays an important role in balancing climate. He also discussed the mechanism by which Antarctica balances the climate. The cold water present beneath the ocean replaces the warm water at the tropical region and thus this cold water cools surface as well as the atmosphere. He alarmed about the activities of human that could destroy this regulating system. (Captain Cousteau ,Audubon ) kindly check it tell me about this
By the way, when writing a scientific name, only the genus name is capitalized - not the species name. So, the "n" in "Rattus Norvegicus" should not be capitalized, and should be written "Rattus norvegicus."
This video is just terrible. First of all, you should not give oppinions when making a summary. At 1:39 the person refers to the rebels as ’good guys’ and the empire as the ’bad guys’. Is’t that an oppinion? Also, if you start parapharsing precise scientific terminology, the summary becomes just a useless word salad. How cold is ’very cold’. Is 0 K very cold? Also what kind of drugs did scientist use? Opioids, cannabinoids, synthetics, pshyedelics? Different drugs work on different receptors. Also, isnt the term 'junk food’ kind of biased oppinion?

This is great, very thorough. Glad to have found it!

Best pick of the several I looked at. StarWars certainly helps!

It is a great video for us to learn summarizing, paraphrasing, and quoting.
