I used to watch every video of yours and try out the recipes together with my grandmother. Sadly, she passed away a few months ago due to a chronic illness.. She was a big fan of yours. She was in awe at your copper pans! Always used to ask me if you have "cooked anything new recently". As she didn't speak English I was always pausing and translating whatever you said. I wanted to thank you for everything. We cherished and enjoyed every recipe of yours that we made.
This is such a sweet, sad story. I'm so sorry your grandmother passed, it sounds like you were so close. I hope you have some amazing memories to keep her alive in your heart.
Cool recipe. I have a couple of hacks though. 1. Use baking powder instead of yeast and you can cook them right away. 2. Add some atta or flour to the butter when you cook it and it will grab all the milk solids and soak the water content. The ghee will not burn like yours did and you won’t need to skim which can be wasteful. You can also sprinkle some sugar on the separated floor and milk solids and eat it. It’s amazing.
i work with people from Afghanistan they bring in home made naan daily, and its delicious, and they dont mind sharing, always offering, when they bring lunch, THEY BRING LUNCH, enough to feed at least 4 people, its amazing
I like the way those Turkish or indian/Middle easterns people makes with parsley/Butter & Garlic to bad u cant makes these kinda of breads in bread makers machines like i have , bread makers just makes Big fat loaf style bread only...so my f*n XMAS persent worth a shyt , i like flat breads like this , more healthier & more delicious with flavor
The amount of information that you give us for free amazes me! I am so grateful for these lessons! Can’t wait for your cookbook to get here! Thanks John!
I'm a native Naan eater and this was so so so so much fun watching you make naan 😄😍 I too just recently found out this way of flipping the pan over, it just gives the best results and the most beautiful results, I LOVE potato stuffed Naan 😋
I loved how you explained about not adding the salt and why, also about kneading the dough to work up the gluten. It is true that sometimes we don't want to mix very much in such foods like cookies or pancakes.
I've made these twice now and both times i didnt have any yogurt, so i used double cream one time and full fat milk the second time, and just added a little less milk than the full yogurt measurement. They turned out great both times and had the bubbles too, yum 😋 Thank you for the recipe.
I love your kitchen and I’m totally envious… I worked as a waitress in an Indian restaurant years ago, and ate a lot of fresh made naan! I will try your recipe! I only wish I had a gas stove too… 🥰❤️😋🤤
My grandma would make Fry bread when we were little. On the farm she always had bread rising. She would pinch off some dough and fry it up for a snack for my sister and myself. With fresh butter. Great memories. Buttermilk was always on the counter which we refused to drink so it was well water. I will pick up yogurt tonight and make naan bread with your recipe. Thanks for all the great recipes.
I love your recipes thank you for your channel. A TIP from India from the lady of the house. She cooked the nans directly on the stove on a low flame. She didn't use a pan at all. They inflated a lot. She cooked few to show me and I cooked the rest for the family dinner. The nans where delicious.
OMG I was literally just looking for some naan (been obsessed with Indian food lately), closed Uber Eats and came on RUclips and saw this. Now I’ll make my own. You are the best 🥰
I initially expected to be annoyed by the overly cheery vibes but just ended up coming out of every one these videos with a smile on my face. Keep it up with the great recipes!
This recipe came out wonderful, I've had gluten sensitivity and had been gluten free until recently experimenting with Einkorn, an ancient wheat, which doesn't pose the problems I get with modern highly hybridized wheat. I didn't have any yogurt but make kefir and always have that on hand, so I just made some adjustments to get the right dough consistency. Many thanks!
He explains it so easy and makes it easy . You’ll ask yourself a question! It’s so calming! Especially for a cook . Good job! And also …. It look so FREAKING easy . And it Is I’m cooking right now can’t wait for THE recipe to bake . It’s so delicious to resist! 🥹🤤
I am learning so much from you John, from how to make vanilla extract to knowing what the white was in the butter. I've always wondered when i melted my butter. Thank you so much. Very informational material!
Excellent recipe! I used half fresh milled red winter wheat in the recipe and it was super soft, and the best flavour!! Thanks for the easy approach and simple details in your video's.
Every time I look for something to cook and I see your channel, I smile and jump right into it. Being from the countries where it is staple food and I still trust your channel (being not from those countries and still be able to make remarkable Naans) is THE BEST complement I can give you ❤
I absolutely LOVE when you cook “normal” food. I came for the baking… and well, stayed for the baking… and adore everything else. Thanks for introducing me to my kitchen, John! 💞
I am new to your channel. I have used the dough function on my bread maker and finish off the rest of your bread recipes by hand. They work great!!!! I also use challah flour which is common in Israel. Thanks so much for the metric measurements!!! ❤️
Made last night, and very tasty,I didn't have the nerve with the upside-down bit in the pan lol. I heated my griddle pan, very hot and quick, and worked very well. Thanks a million, John.
I just made this and the dough is rising. I used a food processor because I do not have a stand mixer. I just mixed it on the low setting until it came together. Then I put it on a lightly floured surface and kneaded gently for 8 minutes. I hope it works! So far so good!!
Looks delicious. For the absolute best hard boiled eggs to serve your guests at breakfast: Try gently injecting a few ccs of melted butter into eggs with a hypodermic syringe and needle just before boiling them.. You'll be amazed at the results. Believe it or not, the small hole that's created from the injection also helps stabilize the pressure that builds up in the egg during the boiling process and helps avoid the shell cracking and the contents leaking into the water. Once the eggs have boiled for 10 minutes, rinse them in cold water from the sink and gently place them in a small pot of ice water. After they've soaked in the ice water for about 3 to 5 minutes, peel them under another stream of cold water from the sink. You'll be surprised how easily the shell separates from the albumen when the egg is extra cold. Now enjoy some extra buttery hard boiled eggs with a little salt. Finally, go ahead and grind the shells in the garbage disposal. Eggshells actually serve to sharpen the blades. Thank you for allowing me to share.
The second one looks very authentic! The traditional way to make garlic naan is to rub the garlic directly and enbed some on the side that'll be buttered. If you are making the traditional way you place the side with toppings on the naan pillow (tandoori naan gaddi) facing the pillow, so as it makes the pretty side with the bubbles face the middle of tandoor. If making with your skillet method have the toppings facing you. Just gently press toppings so they won't fall off when you flip the skillet.
Your recipes are so good that I get super stoked when I see a new video come up. I made your apple turnover recipe the other day and everyone wants me to make more like you wouldn't believe. You really get me some major kudos with the family! I can't wait to get your cookbook and I am not one to buy cookbooks. I just have to tell you that you have changed my life and have made it so much more richer. Thank you so much John. I hope the best for you and your awesome family. 🥂
Hey man, love the recipe! I used to make these, with the upside down method years ago and I needed a refresh. I’ll give you a tip for making ghee without as much fuss: use a small and tall saucepan, when the butter is ready transfer the pan to the sink full of cold water. Lower the temperature like that to stop the browning then leave the pan on the counter to rest. In five minutes all of the milk solids will be on the bottom of the pan so you can carefully pour the ghee out without spooning
So let's get started. John's introduction always makes me chuckle. Going to make this today.Looking forward to it. Mike from London.Happy Easter to all you foodies and well done.
