      Aluminum is 1 thing but real armor wasn't made from that as far as I know... Try hardened steel or something like that... It's heavy but it's also very flexible when custom fitted exactly like you said... That is very important... My armor is hardened steel with mirror polish on 1 suit and normal polish on my 1st set... N let me tell you it's heavy as hell N hot ass hell... Do know Im wearing gambeson underneath it as it's more real towards 14th N 15th century armor that I'm basing off... Yh kingdom come deliverance cosplay what can I say xD

      Small Note for you, if you would ever do armor again in the future like this. Knights who wore full plate armor like what you have, Wouldnt wear a full shirt of chainmail underneath their plate. Instead they would wear something called an Arming Doublet, which was a gambeson, which had chainmail woven into it to provide protection to the flex points, such as the armpits and groin. This may help to make your costume more acurate, while increasing comfort.

      There's also some sense to it, if you scream HI ADAM SAVAGE I LOVE MYTHBUSTERS!!!!! then it's going to be an instant mob scene and the end of your interaction, if you're quiet and calm enough about it, you can probably get a couple minutes of just talking with Adam Savage. If you can keep your cool, it seems like it pays off in a much better experience.

      @@nubreed13 sad moment

    • @Widdekuu91
      @Widdekuu91 2 года назад +1

      @@nubreed13 I visited Dutch Comic Con a few times and joined the competition once, it was fun.
      The outfit I was planning to wear the next time (eventually I did not go) was a dress I'd bought somewhere, so I wouldn't have won the costume-competition either way.
      But they had totally changed the rules by that time and said; 'You need to register yourself a few months before. Then you need to have people vote for your costume online. The more people you convince (a.k.a. the bigger channel you have) the more votes you get and the more you might be able to join.
      Then you need to proof that your stuff is handmade, but materials can be (and have to be) expensive and it needs to have costed 'so-so-many' hours.
      Then there was a rule about competing online with the others, having to promote Comic Con and...I don't even know anymore.
      In the end, there'd be 3 winners (instead of a few more) and instead of Worbla and honour, the prices were a 2-week-trip to Ibiza with a luxury 5 star hotelroom and some activities, which ofcourse you had to film yourself enjoying and say; 'Thank you Comic Con!' a lot of times.
      Anyone that did not commit hours and hours to this competition, was out. This way, it ruined everything for amateurs and only left the opportunity for the rich and for the professionals.
      And therefore I decided not to attend Comic Con again, at least not in the near future. It has been so commercialised, I feel like I'm (unable to be) paying them to be able to purchase their items and attention.

    Fun fact : Modern military salutes came from knights in full body armor lifting up their visors with their straightened hand in respect towards their opponent.

    • @RFC3514
      @RFC3514 5 лет назад +241

      That's one of several theories. Some say it evolved from showing an empty hand (that type of salute dates back before there were full body armours), some say it symbolises removing one's hat, and some say it represents Vectron's Kindly Claw.

    • @PCLHH

      I heard it's from an ancient Klingon tradition of scratching your face to show you have the blood of the warrior caste flowing through you. I don't know why people think full plate armor was/is so uncomfortable and unmaneuverable. In the heat of battle, sure, any suit will be uncomfortable and sometimes bulky, but walking around like Adam said, it's quite pleasant. I remember seeing him in one of his presentatons talk about how he always wanted as a kid to wear a suit of armor just like in Excalibur and well, here we go. I also found it ironic that a full set or armor is also one of his most comfortable costumes yet.

      @samhalstead3674 6 лет назад +39

      How's it ironic? Even actual contemporary plate armour was comfortable for knights to wear. That's the point. If it inhibited the knight's movement he'd get shafted on the battlefield.

    • @WhyName

      Sam Halstead it's ironic because of the common perception that armor is heavy and unwieldy.

    Actually real plate armor didn't weigh that much, around 40 pounds. Tournament armor weighed a bit more since that was for use on a horse but even that was surprisingly light. Most of this was due to having varying thickness of steel throughout the armor, depending on what forces a specific part was intended to withstand. Front center breastplate was for example quite thick, but insides of arms and legs were thinner since those places were not expected to receive as powerful impacts. In the end a soldier has to function or the armor means nothing.

    • @NewYorkKnightsCombat1
      @NewYorkKnightsCombat1 6 лет назад +16

      The amount of mail under plate was a mater of how good the plate was and how much it covered. That being said, it varied according to time and place. The overall evolution, however, was first to put plates over mail, then the plates overlapped and articulated, then the mail became redundant and was only attached to the gambeson (padded coat) in places like the armpits, the inside of the elbows, and the skirt, where the plate did not cover.

      well vassal is pretty much any feudal subject of a lord or this case knight. Squire is pretty much the personal assistant of the period. In that at the time of said personal assistant involved, carrying shield, helping the knight with his armor and taking care of armor.
      Actually being vassal and squire are completely unrelated, though not mutually exclusive.
      The squire could be also a vassal, if the squire was for example a son of one of the knights subjects thus oving feudal loyalty to him.
      However at times squires were sons of other knight/ other prominent people and did not ove feudal loyalty to the knight (outside of one oath of service given as part of being a squire).
