Got the PITTSBURGH PRO 1/4 in. Drive Teardrop Composite Ratchet about 4 month ago. Very happy so far. Does the job, lightweight, love the release button option, and less than $15 for this DIY.
I just ordered the 3 piece set of Capri comfort grip ratchets this morning, based mostly on your comments about them. I'll probably pick up their long-handled versions soon, too. The Quinn ratchets are also on the list.
Great comparison Jeff I have all the Harbor Freight 1/4" ratchets I use the composite one when I'm doing anything on a battery. Still waiting on my Tone 3/8" ratchet. Keep up the good work
Good stuff as always Jeff! You can definitely hear the difference from 72 tooth to 90 tooth. So I know you can feel the difference in back drag as well. You are correct on the quinn and gear wrench 90 tooth have same parts in them. Keep up the awesome work you do for us tool lovers buddy!! Also just heard SK is making alot more US stuff again seen the interview its on RUclips to that's great news for SK!! I pulled the trigger on the Capri sets long and regular so thanks for that review on those can't wait to get them!
I have to agree with you the Capri is the better of the ratchets I own a several of them now I've got gear Ranch I've got just about everything you've got on the table there and I am a capri not above all their new tools thanks Jeff you have a great night take care
I think grip size is just as important as ratchet head size. There are times that having a smaller grip size could help you get into a tight spot. Thats why i have all types of size ratchets but when it comes to comfort grip ratchets I tend to grab ratchet handles that are a little bit on a thick side just for comfort wise
Absolutely my friend,no one ratchet can do it all!! it always comes down to the situation at hand!! there are times when i dont even use comfort grips at all, certain fluids rage havoic on them, transmission fluid comes to mind!! thanks my friend for your great feedback!!
I thought it was neat video!! i always get people who will say,how come this one not in the video,or why dont you like so snd so brand, well i cant buy them all,but i do try, lol!! thanks my friend!!

I've got the Icon and Gearwrench, and I'm getting ready to order the Capri. I've got a lot of other tools from all three already, and Capri seems to be a good tool among the non-tool truck brands. I was almost a straight Gearwrench guy up until a couple of years ago. I really like Icon and Capri, but Capri has all their sizes available for individual sale, and the quality is very good.
I was the same way,my gearwrench ratchets were my go to for many years!!! capri is my go to now,at least in comfort grip!! i have non comfort grip favorites as well, stay tuned!!!
@@jefftovani5535 lol 😆 That’s like a lottery ticket. I’m here, for your content. These tools comparisons were needed to happen. Glad I get to see them Jeff.
My daily drivers are my Matcos because of their grips. I have big hands and they just feel the best for me. I also have Mac and Snap On comfort grips for different ratchets in my cart. I will say that all of the tool truck brands have better feeling grips than the non truck ones.
Capri have almost identical if not a little bit more comfy grips. For comfort grips I like snap on but I also like hard handles too. I switch out my HF breaker bars with snap on hard handle grips. Might do one in comfort grip as well
Thanks for the feedback, mac, matco, snap on have excellent ratchets, dont own any but a few snap on!! i may buy some of the other brands you like, but normally dont by tool truck brands!! mostly mid range tools!! but to make it more interesting we will buy some this year, thanks again, stay tuned!!
SATA is identical to Gearwrench in my experience, but lower prices - I have 120XP ratchets from both brands, and the internals are just the same. Both made in Taiwan by Apex Tool Group.
I have two of the Snap-Ons with comfort grip - I picked them up new on eBay a few years back for £45 each, and you sure can't find them for that price now!
Capri for the win. I have the 120 tooth box end ratchets they make hoping they will expand their 120 tooth lineup to their regular and flex head ratchets
I love Snap On ratchets but currently dont own any after selling all my tools 8 yrs ago bcuz of medical emergency. As a Snappy fan, I can admit that there are other brands closing the gap n maybe even taking over. Koken z series are great. Tekton are awesome for the money and I like Capri tools but don't have any ratchets as I dont like chrome handles n waiting for flexhead comfort grip. Already ordered the new VIM flexheads, waiting on delivery.
I never liked the spongy feel of the Snap on comfort grip. I actually like the harder grip of the Pittsburgh/Icon comfort grip handles. I wish more manufacturers offered the knurled handles.
I agree some what here. Snap on is quality and supports American jobs. But, having said that with taiwan manufacturers really stepping it up in quality there needs to be a reflection in pricing. I lost alot of snap on, US craftman, proto, etc in my house fire last year and after trying out some top tier taiwan tools I see no justification to buy tool truck brands anymore at 44 years old. Are their ratchets and wrenches amazing yep. Is it justifiable if just starting out or on the back end of a career nope. sockets are good but there are good options out there for cheaper maybe not better but it will get the job done. To me there's maybe a handful of tool truck items one would need for sure the rest can be had cheaper elsewhere
@@ShawnC8030 I have notice a lot more Snap on being made in other countries and If they are gonna start having tools made in other countries they need to drop there prices. I have put my snap on tools against other tools and sometimes the other brand tools fit the fastener the same or better.

Every one of them is a copy of the Snap On. Snap On invented and patented the sealed head ratchet in the 1990's and they invented the soft grip in the 90's as well. The cheaper ratchets are made with Chrome Vanadium steel, which Snap On stopped using over 90 years ago.
but what does the snap on really do any better than some of the others? If you can afford that kind of thing go for it but seriously if it does the same job with minimal difference can you really justify that price tag?
If you're a professional mechanic they are worth it. It's not going to be worth it for the DIY guys. Some differences are it will last longer, in part due to the better steel it's made from. Snap On will be around to take care of any warranty issues. Many times I've seen Snap On warranty ratchets that are 50 years old. It's made in USA, which is important to some of us. I've had Taiwan made ratchets fail at the worst times under professional use. I don't use chinese or taiwan tools anymore unless there are no other options available. My point about the other ratchets being copies of the Snap On is that most don't know that Snap On has been the leader in innovation over the last 100 years. They will still be around down the road when these other tool companies are long gone. @@sambrown6975
