    Thank YOU so much for muting the
    loud sound of the sander...
    This is a great video/tutorial...
    I paint signs, don't do this beautiful
    woodworking way you'll do... but I do
    admire your art....

      You're welcome Judy, I'm trying to do that more. We all have our things, and painting isn't one of mine. I'm sure you do beautiful work. You would probably make a great sign carver as well.

    Hello Mr Dave. If I could only get one bit to start carving which would be your suggestion? Thanks. Started watching your videos back from 2009. Got my first router a week ago.

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  6 лет назад

      If I had to pick only one, it would be the 60 degree. Thank you for watching for so long. Fire that thing up and make some sawdust. Have fun!!!

    I know you use the Critter Sprayer a lot. I don't have a large compressor (yet) only 110 psi brad nailer/stapler compressor. Can I get the same results from spray cans or should be brushing on finish?

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  3 года назад

      I would stay with the spray cans for first 2 coats. Then lightly hand sand, I use 220 grit. Then if you want it to build up faster you can put on a brush coat or 2. Then hand sand again. Then a thin last coat with a spray can.

    Love the video information.... question.... how dep did you go with profile bit and how deep was 90° bit? When you spray sealer outside does it attract dust particles .... everytime I do this my surface is rough and bumpy? Could be also that I am on east coast and humid so everything take lot longer to dry if outside so now I do inside house with a clean room and using a fan but I use brush on gloss sealer Arm N Seal.

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  3 года назад +1

      Hi Smith, I was approx. 1/4" deep with both the profile and the 90. When you apply any finish or even water to a bare board it raises the grain. That why you should lightly hand sand after the 1st coat. Especially if it feels rough. Some woods will raise the grain more than others. I used to brush on my finish and it always felt rougher that spraying it on. What may help is lightly hand sanding in between every coat. I would used very fine sand paper 1000 grit of you can.

    Great Video Eric.
    98 % of my signs i make, is inset letters.
    The people here in Sweden seems to like the inset more than the outset for some reason.
    I use the 60 degree bit all the way...both for the inset carving and taking out the material.
    By the way....i love the smell of a new made sign !!
    My wife thinks I'm strange that way...he he :)
    Have a great day Buddy !!

      Thank you Morgan, glad you liked it. Yea lots of ways to do it. We all have our favorites. Funny how inset letters are more popular over there. It's a mix for me over here. Have a great day and Thank you again for watching my friend...

      Well my favorite is doing outset, i think that is more fun :)

    Does the Helmsmans have to be thinned for use in the Critter? I've had to thin paint quite a bit for the Critter to properly spray.

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  6 лет назад

      I don't thin it at all. I spray it at around 50 psi.

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  7 лет назад

      It's not a bad idea if your sign is perfectly flat. If it has any kind of cup to it doesn't work too well.

    Should the router not be moved in a ccw direction so the rotation of the bit does not tend to run away? When you were putting the bevel on the edge you went clockwise.

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  5 лет назад +1

      I do either way. Because I'm using soft woods mostly and not going very deep it doesn't make a difference for me.

I have lots of video with iseas on how to market signs. I don't know if you know how to use our channel search so here's a video on that. ruclips.net/video/BXwyv7XU34s/видео.html about 7 min in on this video you will see the channel search. If type Marketing into our channel search you find lots of video with tons of ideas. Hope this helps. If you have more questions feel free to email me directly, eric@makeawoodsign.com
