Okay the "click-bait" title worked. Never had to question anything about him. My aunt knew him and friends of hers worked with him on a couple of TV shows in the late 1950s and early to mid 1960s. He was a wonderful kind man according to them.

Mr. Brennan was in the movies during a time when in mattered if you were Catholic or Protestant. The studios, who ran everything with an iron fist, kept that part of his life from reaching the general public. Mr. Brennan was making the movie companies so much money. They didn't want to destroy their Goose who Laid the Golden Egg. Hollywood was way different during his time. Hollywood history is a complex hodge-podge of a Hall of Mirrors.

Once again, the "morality" of 2024 is applied to 1950s and 1960s. I don't think his actions were racist, but rather anti-communistic. You are talking a veteran who fought in the War to End All Wars. He hated communism and the threat it held for the US.

As such, his dislike for people like Martin Luther King was based on their possible ties to the Soviet Union and undermining America than the color of his skin.
