Snow laundry is great! And also: so much fun?! However, if the fabric is warm and melts into the snow the surface fibers can freeze stuck, and it may end up with damage. For heavy duty rugs (as you mentioned) I wouldn't be too worried, but with finer or fluffier wool garments it may be risky depending on the type of snow and air temperature! But that's easily avoided by letting your wool hang outside for a while to cool before throwing it in the snow and giving it a full can of whoop ass.
I'm so happy that you mentioned it and let people know, I feel that it's one of those super easy, effective and fun tricks that may be forgotten and left in the past!

I agree! I’ve spoken to so many people who’ve never heard of snow laundry. I have only ever done it to big heavy floor rugs, I would probably just hang thinner woollens out in the sun and freezing air to kill bacteria.

Still haven't changed except I make mine out of old cotton sheets and try to make a matching full petticoat as well. I react to the plastics in bras so wear mine over a shift/chemise which seems to solve the problem quite nicely. Only difference is mine are sleeveless.

That’s so smart! I find it really strange how we suddenly stopped wearing underwear under our shapewear, perhaps a lot of people would hate their bras less if they wore them over a shift 😊

I may be misremembering BUT didn't they use hat pins in the Tudor times? Or at the very least attached ribbon to the hoods to tie under the caps?

Yeah, I think you’re right. I remember seeing both pins and laces. I could try that, it just feels so silly when the French hood sticks to my head like glue without the cap on 😅
