The Fanatec QR2 Is Too Expensive! Here Is One Solution...

  • I'm disappointed by the lack of consideration Fanatec has given towards its loyal customers. For me, $600 is too much to upgrade all my wheels over to the new QR2 system. Instead, I could put that toward a higher end wheelbase or move over to another ecosystem such as Asetek or Moza... In the meantime though, I want to be able to add wheel rims to my Christmas list and still be able to use those wheels with another ecosystem should I choose to move on from Fanatec. I've found a solution to expand my options outside of the Fanatec ecosystem using Sim Racing Machine's emulator combined with a D1 spec quick release.
    Here is SRM's Emulator:

    I think the base side should have been free to all DD owners and then discounts on the wheel sides.

      Yeah, that sounds very reasonable

    • @2ndLastJedi

      @ACasualRacer if they gave it the base side then more people would be on it and need to buy the wheel sides.
      I guess they thought that also by reducing the base side so heavily for black friday sales.

      @@2ndLastJedi I am actually selling 3 of my podium hubs right now, and going with SRM for their base side adapter, and then putting on the NRG quick releases.. This works for me as i have no fanatec wheels for my DD1. only fanatec wheel i have the clubsport v2 that came with the dd1.

    This only seems to be a concern for those who have many fanatec rims. Sadly like Apple Fanatec has such a large consumer base and influence that they will sell these products quite easily, and I'm sure they are aware of the projected volume.
    It's just unfortunate that we had to wait so long because apparently the QR2 lite took many iterations, which delayed the launch.

    Mounting other whels to o fanatec can be made with a SRM EMULATOR FOR FANATEC WHEEL-BASE that cost $100. The adapter tricks its a genuine fanatec wheel mounted :) and it hardly adds any length at all to the quickrelease!.

    You are still using QR1, adding additional moving parts to the setup. The biggest problem with Q1 is that it quickly becomes loose and noisy. Adding other wheels without buying multiple Fanatec hubs is a nice solution, but it's not an alternative to QR2.

    • @ACasualRacer
      @ACasualRacer  10 месяцев назад +2

      Well, with this solution you can tighten the retaining screw. And then use a D1 spec quick release instead with your Fanatec wheelbase to retain that "Quick" release feature and D1 quick releases are generally much cheaper as well.

  • @ACasualRacer
    @ACasualRacer  10 месяцев назад +1

    By the way, I mention Clubsport Hub a few times before I correct myself. To make sure I clarify, the hub that Fanatec offers which allows you to connect other wheel rims is called the Podium Hub.

    I agree, im about to
    Drop £700 on a fanatec bundle but was concerned about some of the prices. It seems to be all of the qr systems are over priced if tou have to buy the shaft as well . Qr1 is defective and should be recalled and replaced
    For free imo. Some items such as the pedal set are very cheap at £80
    But then the extra pedal and loadcell are double that nearly, the extra pedal should be £50 and the loadcell kit £30 at best. I think they really do
    Need to rebalance
    Some of their prices and straight up reduce some

    Me too, i wrote them about my dd2 I bought this year and they had no promotion at all. Just buy frim the store and bye. This rub me the wrong way as i have plenty of fanatec products. I replaced my V3s with the HE Sprint and once DD2 is out of warranty im out of fanatec products and move on

    with that many wheels id just stay on qr1 they will sell on new dd qr2 to qr1 conversion. ill be doing that with 1 wheel porche 918 as it would cost me more to convert it than buy new wheel.

    • @ACasualRacer
      @ACasualRacer  8 месяцев назад

      I ultimately decided to sell three of my wheels, and then use the money from that to help pay to convert the rest over to QR2. I already did one video following up on this one, and a third is going to come out this week or next (already recorded).

      @@Eskoxo I just wish the QR2 had been a generic D1 spec quick release like Moza, Cammus, Simmagic, etc. And a software update could easily open up the Fanatec bases to have FFB with any wheel rim.... but no, they want to lock you into their ecosystems.
      I like a lot of things Fanatec do, but this is the biggest thing that almost made me change to a different company.

    So the reason they sell these separately is because they're selling them to people like us with old setups who look to upgrade.

    Dude, I’m agree on the fanatec doesn’t care of the so called community, the fan base.
    But I think you delusional thinking they would give you a reward like discount on new products like the qr2. For what… loyalty…
    😂😂😂come on !!
    There’s no fidelity program, and fanatec love money, that’s the point of running a business.
    You may bought too much wheels, do you really have a use of all those wheels you paid for ? Because now you kind of stuck to spend 600$, if you want those new qr2 ?
    That’s mind blowing,
    I’ve a gt dd pro, and couple of wheel too.
    But before buying something I had to question myself literally seven times.
    "Do I need this? Does it make me better”
    Loyalty doesn’t exist, you’re just a bit too much compulsive.

    • @ACasualRacer
      @ACasualRacer  6 месяцев назад

      Interesting viewpoint, they did eventually run a sale on the products and give discounts for bundle orders. That was when I finally bought three of the metal QR2s and two of the QR2 lites. I'm impressed by the quality, and I'm glad they heard the feedback, from myself and others, and decided to offer discounts for orders of multiple QR2s.

    • @ACasualRacer
      @ACasualRacer  6 месяцев назад

      Well I don't hate them, but they sure make some strange decisions that hurt customer loyalty for sure. I'll be sticking with my CSL DD until it gives out (or someone sends me something better to review), but I'm definitely only buying wheels and rims moving forward that aren't tied to any ecosystem. I have my eye on Simmagic's new Neo F1 wheel!

  • @Leo_Moreira84
    @Leo_Moreira84 8 месяцев назад +1

    Bro... honestly. Just leave Fanatec ecosystem. It's easier and you won't have to go thru all that crap of a solution.

    • @ACasualRacer
      @ACasualRacer  8 месяцев назад +1

      I am doing that in a way, I'm preparing to sell about 1/2 of my Fanatec wheels (my cheaper ones) and then start adding more 3rd party stuff. That way if/when I move away from Fanatec most of my wheels can go with me.
      And for example, the McLaren GT3 rim I've just converted to USB, and will have a video on that soon. So there is always an option to take 2-3 of my favorite Fanatec wheels with me to another wheelbase.
