This helped me save one of my old n64's, it didn't seem to work on the first one I had though. A shame, the first one was my childhood, but maybe I'll find a way to fix it some day. Thank you.
Yea. After a bit of testing with it, I think I know the problem: cartridge slot is a bit dirty on the first one. I think the "in-out-in-out-in" trick should work.
Great video amigo. I was literally getting to take my 64 apart with instructions from another RUclips video when saw yours. So quick, easy and effective. Many thanks!!🤘🏽
Thank you so much for posting this!!! My kid knocked over my n64 and it wouldn't come on. I never had to pull this out before. It still had the tape on it. It worked though...pulled it out and put it back in and worked great. Thank you again!!!
Just bought new av cables because I thought that was the problem but wasn’t cleaned the expansion pack once and all my games started right up. Your the man.
Wow. Literally worked perfectly . Thank you for posting this. I’ve had issues with my N64 and have tried different things to fix , and this literally fixed it in 1 second . I just needed to push the expansion pack into its socket (it was loose). For how long I’ve used and grew up with this system I never knew the expansion pack can become loose/dirty
Old video, but thanks a ton!! I thought there was something wrong with my AV cables or even with my HDMI adapter, but this worked perfectly! Thanks again :D
Thank you so much, i had to buy 2 different hdmi adapters thinking that was the problem, but all i did was clean the jumper pack like you did ,and it worked. Thank you. 😊
I was about to try some more complicated stuff and stumbled upon this video, and it solved everything. May good fortune smile upon you, as this video did to me.
Bro!! Just like everyone else lol you literally saved me from having to go buy a whole other system! Worked like magic after wiping it down with alcohol 🙏🏼 thank you so much!
I've had this non working N64 in my drawer for 5 years.... was just about to throw it out, watched your video, cleaned the expansion pack now it works, thank you!
Thanks for the video! This was hairbrush to me, so I bought new av cables and was so devastated when it didn't work. Glad I found this video, even if I did buy extra cables!
Okay, this video wasn't *quite* what I was looking for, so I do want to ask in case you know. Any help is greatly appreciated. I'm trying to be a speedrunner and I have an AV to HDMI connector. Though the game appears flawlessly on my TV screen, my computer isn't picking up what's on the TV. When I go into Streamlabs, there's no window option that displays what's on my TV monitor. If you don't know this answer, it's alright. I'm only asking because I'm not finding anything online and am a little desperate.
Hey I have a quick question, did you use the rubbing alcohol on the chip? Wouldn’t that be bad for it or are you cleaning something else and I’m missing what it is?
I bought and plugged my n64 into my tv yesterday without a converter and it shows up as no signal but I can hear the game noises. Then I buy a converter, Which is the mini Av2HDMI mini and the same problem happens I can hear the audio on my tv screen but cant see the game, I get a blue screen. What is happening here? Is it the cords I was given? I even took out my jumper a few times and put it back in with no results.
Likely your tv can not support the resolution. The cheap av convertors on ebay and amazon are also a 50/50 if it will work. Id suggest trying a old school crt tv if you have access to one
Oh man, I had a list of solutions that could end up with even getting another N64, I never expected that that would've been the problem, THANK YOU VERY MUCH ! It worked, and it might even have fixed an issue where a green interference would "strike" the screen at random in some games.
so my n64 has been locked away for some time, about 5 years or so and i decided i wanted to play it and i loaded up some majoras mask and its basically telling me it cant connect, mind you i have a smart tv and it just wont connect no matter what i do even when i did this.
If the n64 reads no expansion or jumper pack it does not function. Why it does not function I am not sure. But it fails from dirt and corrosion. So cleaning it can sometimes remedy the issue.
Thank you I cleaned mine and now I can play Duke Nukem Zero Hour. I can't save so I'm gonna have to play all day long until I beat it before I turn it off. I'm gonna need one of those memory card things for the controller right?
The black one is just a terminator for the RAM bus, nothing but wires inside to complete the circuit. The red one contains extra RAM, 4MB to double the n64's total RAM to 8MB. Majora's mask and dinosaur planet also require it, but 007 does not. However in many games the graphics or performance are improved even if it is not required, pokemon stadium 2 and the entire Tony hawk series for example.
Help, I still get the no signal blue screen. Have had the Nintendo (s) professional cleaned, works for the guy at the shop, wont work here at home. When went so far as to get the N64 to HDMI box two different styles and nothing works. Our son with ASD so misses his 64.....thanks
Try another video cable, other games, try cleaning the game. Also if you have a crap game. Do you get any video at all? If you have a friend or games store nearby with a n64 try asking to swap expansion packs. You may have a faulty one.
I literally look up your video because (Don’t think I’m weird) The Lord said RUclips this problem. Your video popped up and in less than 2 minutes…My system is alive again!!! The joy I felt when Mariokart came on!!! I appreciate your content being here. I really wanted to let some loved ones hold one of the 2 N64 systems I had but neither were working for over 10 years…Until now!!! Thank God for your video!
What do I do if I can't remove it because of this red strip that I'm not sure I want to remove. Would love to play some of these old games with my brothers again.
Donkey kong was required because they never fixed a bug and needed the expansion pack for it. They just marketed it as a cool add on with extra power lol
I cleaned it, put it back in multiple times, unplugged the 64, re-connected the power supply and audio video output and then plugged it back in, I've tried multiple games that I know have worked fine!!! I don't know what to do?!!!! I am beyond myself with grief!!! This is my dear N64, It's worked perfectly fine, I just played DK 64 just a month before Pokémon scarlet and violet came out, and now I wanted to play Rayman 2 and nothing is happening!!!!!
@josue nevarez OH!!!! It was the AV cables! I plugged in the AV cables from my gamecube because they apparently use the same ones, And it worked! Try it, and let me know how it goes!
I bought my n64 about 1 year ago from Ebay and always had problem reading games with it. I tried your technique and I did see quite some dirt on the q-tip after inserting a game a few times with isopropyl alcohol. The games load much better now, but I still habe problems booting up with my everdrive, it displays various errors at launch, like file system error, fat32 error (with several sd cards). I saw online it might be due to a transistor dying inside the n64, causing the system to boot up more slowly than it should, thus causing read errors on the everdrive.
Next cheapest option is to try a av cable. Then a new jumper pack. If you have a used game store near you take it in and ask if they will test it for you with nes jumper and av cables.
Dude , you just saved me from buying a new 64. And right before Xmas so technically you gave me a 64 for Xmas. Thank you so very much.
Yeahhhh me toooo thanks no cap🙏🙏🙏🙏
Took out the jumper pak, cleaned it with a Q-tip and 70% isopropyl alcohol, and let it dry for a few minutes, and my N64 turned on! Thank you so much!
How long did you let it dry?
@@skifeverdude41 It won't take long 20 mins at most
This helped me save one of my old n64's, it didn't seem to work on the first one I had though. A shame, the first one was my childhood, but maybe I'll find a way to fix it some day. Thank you.
Its one of the first things I try, and then move on from there.
Yea. After a bit of testing with it, I think I know the problem: cartridge slot is a bit dirty on the first one. I think the "in-out-in-out-in" trick should work.
@@zwestdotexe852 I keep a crap sports game around just for that. I put rubbing alcohol on a qtip and soak the cart then ram it in a few times haha
Great video amigo. I was literally getting to take my 64 apart with instructions from another RUclips video when saw yours. So quick, easy and effective. Many thanks!!🤘🏽
No problem 👍
Thank you so much for posting this!!! My kid knocked over my n64 and it wouldn't come on. I never had to pull this out before. It still had the tape on it. It worked though...pulled it out and put it back in and worked great. Thank you again!!!
Awesome! Doesn't always work. But might as well try the free fix first!
Had this issue and this 100% worked, thank you!!! I was trying cords, games everything, cleaning that jumppak worked. Thank you!
Just bought new av cables because I thought that was the problem but wasn’t cleaned the expansion pack once and all my games started right up. Your the man.

Can you explain how you cleaned it with rubbing alcohol?
Old video, but thanks a ton!! I thought there was something wrong with my AV cables or even with my HDMI adapter, but this worked perfectly! Thanks again :D
Glad it helped!
Just bought a n64 and it didn't show any picture then I tried this and it worked like a charm. Thank you for the video
Glad I could help
Dude you just saved me thanks my Nintendo was not working and I was panicking
Holy crap man you are awesome man i was having issues looked up why clicked in your video it worked thank you i was thinking my n64 crapped out
Thank you so much, i had to buy 2 different hdmi adapters thinking that was the problem, but all i did was clean the jumper pack like you did ,and it worked. Thank you. 😊
I was about to try some more complicated stuff and stumbled upon this video, and it solved everything. May good fortune smile upon you, as this video did to me.
Its 2021 I just got my 64 from almost 24 years ago and did this and it worked ! Thanks for this video !
Glad it helped
Bless you sir, I was bummed out my old 1999 N64 finally took the long nap, but this fixed it! Thank you!
You're welcome!
I wasn't expecting much bc all the bs on the internet nowadays, but it worked!!!!!. Thanks a lot my guy!!!
Worked once doing this and not it’s not. Any other tips?
Thank you so much! Worked first try, and my husband was ready to buy a whole new box.
Bro!! Just like everyone else lol you literally saved me from having to go buy a whole other system! Worked like magic after wiping it down with alcohol 🙏🏼 thank you so much!

Dusted off my old n64 - couldn’t get it working, been in the garage for years. This solved it, thanks!
This worked for me! I tried two video cables and nothing! I did this to both the pack and the game after that and it worked! Thank you.
THANK YOU. I was going crazy, and this helped me get mine working!

I just want to say that this worked. But in my experience I unplugged and replugged the memory pack about 30 times before this worked. Keep at it!
This is the best comment ever, I was about to give up on this Solution but I saw this Comment and kept trying and it finally worked!
@@TheSpiffingKnight Glad it worked for you!
My pak has a sticker on it saying do not remove this label and it’s sticking the pak to the n64 what should I do?
Do you really need the expansion pak for Starfox 64?
Worked for me, thank you ! N64 had sat for years, wouldn't turn on, now it does after rubbing alcohol clean.
Thats great! Happy it helped

Try downsizing the screen size picture zoom to 4:3
Go to picture then adjust it
Only video I’ve seen of someone doing this, and it worked perfectly! Thank you!
Glad I could help
Thanks, you help me a lot this old video of yours still helping others
The old reliable video!!! I was so scared thought I got scammed from a ice blue N64 it did not want to load up but I did your trick and it worked!!!

Happy it helped! Better then another retro console ending up in a ewaste pile somewhere
Ive tried this a few times already and it’s not working.
It was working a couple of months ago.
Any idea what else I could try?
so my n64 has been locked away for some time, about 5 years or so and i decided i wanted to play it and i loaded up some majoras mask and its basically telling me it cant connect, mind you i have a smart tv and it just wont connect no matter what i do even when i did this.
Thanks Santa! You saved my Christmas! I love you!
Yep this saved the day. Thank you for a short explanation!!!
Just out of curiosity why does the expansion pack or regular pack cause this issue?
If the n64 reads no expansion or jumper pack it does not function. Why it does not function I am not sure. But it fails from dirt and corrosion. So cleaning it can sometimes remedy the issue.
Thank you I cleaned mine and now I can play Duke Nukem Zero Hour. I can't save so I'm gonna have to play all day long until I beat it before I turn it off. I'm gonna need one of those memory card things for the controller right?
Best tutorial ever was a 2 second fix

I thought I would have to buy a new Nintendo 64 but it was such a simple fix. Thank you so much
Heck yeah this worked perfectly, thanks you're a lifesaver
Great video Jory , good job mate, thanks very much for sharing man, stay safe bud
Thanks 👍
Are you using the original equipment cables? Or, an adapter?
Original equipment
Perfect dark works without the expansion one of my favorite n64 games
is there any chance of damaging the console further while performing this trick? i'm too poor to buy another one or pay for expensive repairs atm :')
No unless you left the pins in the water for like a hour or something ridiculous. Or not leaving it min 24 hours to dry
Help, I still get the no signal blue screen. Have had the Nintendo (s) professional cleaned, works for the guy at the shop, wont work here at home. When went so far as to get the N64 to HDMI box two different styles and nothing works. Our son with ASD so misses his 64.....thanks
If it works for the guy at the shop, the problems might lie with the cables or your TV (input).
It didn't work for me, is there anything else that can be done?
Try another video cable, other games, try cleaning the game. Also if you have a crap game. Do you get any video at all? If you have a friend or games store nearby with a n64 try asking to swap expansion packs. You may have a faulty one.
Saved a game night. Thank you
This worked beautifully. Thank you so much
You're welcome!
thanks a bunch! you saved me another trip to the store
Thank you. You save me from spending a brand new n64
Thanks bro i was so hyped to play and it wasnt working. Worked like a charm after cleaning with alcohol
Thanks ma man, I already thought I lost it :)

I’m a Christian and you are weird bro.
Duuuuudeeeeeee, thanks a lot
I struggled for hours till i did this
I done what he said but it keeps cutting out any idea and my memory extension sounds like there's something rattling in side
Try a cheap aftermarket one from china. That could fix it. Sometimes though it can be internally abd have another issue.
What do I do if I can't remove it because of this red strip that I'm not sure I want to remove. Would love to play some of these old games with my brothers again.
I used a knife to pry the expansion pack up by the red part
I just had to bring out and back in a couple times, thank you so much dude
Bro, this video is a life saver!!! I can’t thank you enough 👍
Hi I try it n still no video I got it on hdmi n it stays on blue screen going sv av
I did this and it still hasn’t worked is there anything else I can do?
Try a generic cheap av cable and a cheap off brand jumper pack. Also try cleaning the pins on the game cart
LOZ Majora's Mask, Perfect Dark, and Donkey Kong 64 are the only expansion pack necessary games I believe
Donkey kong was required because they never fixed a bug and needed the expansion pack for it. They just marketed it as a cool add on with extra power lol
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2.
Rogue Squadron
I just bought an n64 and it said not video cant be fixed i just tried this and fired right up and had sound an video
I've been checking and checking and I finally cleaned everything with alcohol and it works perfect thank you very much you saved me a lot

Tried doing it and got the machine on, but got weird green lines flickering in and out of it during play when tried. Is this normal?
Could also be bad cables or a bad board itself
Awesome, a short video that can fix my pro-
"Clean it with alcohol"
*I'll never play my n64 ever again.*
ive tried this but mine still wont turn on
same. it was to no avail.
This worked for me! Thanks!
worked like a charm! thanks so much for the video!
Glad it helped!
Ahhh sweet. Thanks. Totally worked.
I took the expansion pack out and cleaned it and it worked , but then 15 mins later I switched games and it did the same thing again 😞.
Boom WOrks! YOU"RE THE MAN!
Happy it worked
didnt work for my vizio 😞
perfect will play without an expansion, i've never owned an expansion pak but have played perfect dark as it is my favorite n64 game
It worked! Thank u!
I try and even clean the jumper pak with IPA but still not working, it a new av cable, idk what to do ☹️
Next cheapest option is to try a av cable. Then a new jumper pack.
If you have a used game store near you take it in and ask if they will test it for you with nes jumper and av cables.
Now I know why my one wasn't connecting thanks fir the help 👍
Still didn’t work ☹️ I don’t have red jumper tho
“Let me watch one more video before I throw away my N64.”
Boom! She works!!
Worked!!!! No lie I was super skeptical at first.
Always try the easiest cheapest fix first lol. Thanks for watching
Thank you so much, I bought a n64 recently online and thought it was broke ahaha. Saved me a nice 150 dollars
Huh, I didn't know that red pack was necessary for some games! I thought it just upgraded some of them in some way.
this actually worked.. its the forgotten cartridge slot. simple point of failure
My screen turns blue and no images
didnt work, it actually started after I took the cover off the expansion pack, no Idea what happened.
Buddy I appreciate you
Thanks
Actualy worked thank you
How do you clean the jumper ?
rubbing alcohol and a qtip
Sadly could not make it work on mine. Might see if I can get a red one.
Or even a cheap chines knock off for now. Just to test if it is a faulty adapter or not.
Bro thanks you’re a life saver
This didn't work. Any other suggestions?
