I'm very interested in seeing how the assimilation mechanic works with the warscore system.. When you started assimilating, the warscore dropped from 40 to 0 percent. I wonder if that means that every war is to the death..

Is research reworked for the borg? I mean how they get research, in the show this is a well etablished fact the borg don't innovate themselves but "steal" tech all around. I would love to see that implemented. Could be really powerful tho.
Lore vice Ferengi and Klingon's are tech thief's. Borgs still research new and improve upon tech they stumble. Borg do not invent just because they can instead they do if need arises.
They can research, but they are terrible at innovation. Honestly the Voyager thing didn't even make sense. They adapt as a normal procedure when encountering new races. All Voyager did was adapt their nanites to a cell sample of species 8472. That seriously should not have been a thing, but it was a way for the whole temporary alliance plot line to progress so I give them a pass. Though maybe the Borg had been unable to get a cell sample... but then. They had one standing around trying to assimilate a a 8472 ship.. how hard could it be to scrape some cells with it's arm and scan them? What you got is a case of repeat episodes requiring your villain to get weaker and dumber to keep making them defeatable.
well, it's not like it's that easy, a single ship of 8472 destroyed a lot of drones, the collective tries to be efficient, and it isn't efficient the war they were fighting at that moment, thus they were only retreating and being unable to improve
By the time we are used to them. Who knows what they used in the past. And there is no reason they couldn't use any weapon they can understand, cutting beams just function best for them in most cases.
Looks like a good mod, I just downloaded it last night to give it a try. It'll be interesting to see how the dev team incorporates synthetic hive minds into the mod. Though I'm surprised they went with warp travel instead of wormhole stations as the Borg FTL method, since Transwarp gates (and hubs) was pretty much their thing.
For the record, an 18.5 isoton photon torpedo puts out about 67.662 megatons of energy. That's more than the yield the Tsar Bomba was detonated at, and photon torpedoes can apparently carry enough antimatter for a 200 isoton explosion.. or about 730+ megatons.
You are correct, to a point. The yields stated are the intention of the writers, yes... But Iso as a word modifier means single, so essentially an isoton is one ton... Lol, silly writers!
I've wanted to play the Borg for quite awhile... there was a mod that had a 'host/infected' trait, similiar to xenomorphs, crysalids and such. After annexing a colony, I'd just move one population unit over. After a certain time, they'd have infected a population unit to become a host, then pop, they'd be replaced with another member of your species. Eventually they'd convert an entire population. Not nearly as fast as the Borg, but still fun.
It would actually be interesting if they put in a mechanic where assimilating a weaker race would actually regress the Borg. As in the show the Borg only assimilate when there is a contribution to perfection and not a retraction from it.

Anybody ever read the Gap Cycle by Stephen R Donaldson? The alien threat in that series, the Amnion, imo are the tecno-organic Borg. Like in the opening of this vid, the Amnion have no strife or hardship and as they spread across the stars they bring Calm Horizons and Tranquil Hegemony(actuak nsmes of two if their bad ass ships) and assimilate other species not by machinery but by mutating other species into full fledged Amnion. Their mutagen will even turn an earth rat into the Amnioni equivalent. Anyone not familiar with that scifi epic series of books, I highly recomend them. Donaldson somehow makes one like and root for even _Angus Thermopyle_ (if you read it you'll know what I mean)!
Question - With the New Horizon Star Trek mod, the hyperlanes are invisible and do not show on the galaxy map like Stellaris does. Is there a reason for this? Is there a way to bring them back? or are they gone (as in I can go directly anywhere)?
i can not get better ships. I researched spheres and updated my space station to level 5 but have not been able to get the sphere build attachment for space station. what am I missing. I think I'm in the year 2331.

Really? I was just thinking mechanically speaking, it would've been better to build off of one of the synthetic types, especially when it came to assimilation. I don't have really any experience modding Stellaris though, so I'll take your word for it on that one.
No, 'syntethic' pops, or buildable pops, would not allow us to do all the lovely assimilation-deassimilation bits we worked so hard for. Now your pops visually change when assimilate, and can be assimilated back. This can't be done with buildable pops. Not to mention, we want to rely as little as possible on DLC's. It would not be fair to the players to make the Borg require a DLC.

For whatever reason I thought the content would still be available to non-DLC users in a modded version, didn't think about the implications of that though. As ASpec just tells the game to auto complete his ships, and doesn't even bother to see what anything is that is being added. XD Though I am completely unfamiliar with the mod, so it could be that the details are irrelevant. Also, in the fight you had some newer designs of ship compared to the old. The game was automatically updating the design, but you had ships from before stuff was researched.
Synthetic Dawn has no relevance to the Borg mechanic. It doesn't offer the flexibility and depth that we need. This mechanic has been under development since before Paradox even announced their DLC. Not to mention, as a general rule, we do not gate any major mechanic behind DLC.

1.8 will require us to patch things, yes, like every other major update. We do not expect to use anything from the Synthetic Dawn DLC however.

AFAIK It used to be to the death by default, but now you can either assimilate piece by piece or in one scoop

It is implemented in that, when the Borg destroys a country for the first time, it gets a significant bonus in research points.

The borg use "cutting beams" not polaron beams.
By the time we are used to them. Who knows what they used in the past. And there is no reason they couldn't use any weapon they can understand, cutting beams just function best for them in most cases.
Borgs use Plasma weapons. Cutting Beam is for taking samples.

They sometimes assimilate lesser races if they just need more drones though, or they just blow stuff up if they want said lesser race out of the way.
