This is what Jones had to say about Francis leaving: “I’m glad that Francis knows his worth. No man has a right to shame another man for fighting for his worth. I was in a very similar situation as Francis as a light heavyweight. I was never happy with my salary. I had to sit out three years, and I missed a lot of time, but now we’re here. I encourage Francis on his journey, and I wish him all the best. Another company is going to be truly blessed to have him.”

I gotta give a big shout to Randy Couture here for being one of the first to truly challenge fighter treatment and pay. And of course respect to Francis and a few other fighters for trying to continue some of that work.

@@colojr1690 The quote I pulled was from TalkSport and in that they claim the interview was with MMA Underground. However in a similar article from The Mirror, they claim the interview was with Sports Illustrated although the quotes are exactly the same. My guess is this was some interview Jones had where multiple outlets were in attendance but I don't have more info than that. EDIT: It does appear that Sports Illustrated had the actual interview with Jones, there's quite a bit more in their interview than just that quote from above. EDIT #2: The Sports Illustrated article is titled "Jon Jones Opens Up on Return vs. Ciryl Gane, Francis Ngannou's UFC Release" and was dated 01/17/2023 by Justin Barrasso.

People just don't really want to see that Francis is the best out there. Jon Jones is a bully and he always talks like a man who has to prove that he is the goat. But Francis is just an absolute powerhouse and he knows it so he doesn't really have to involve himself in trash talking and doing threats like Jones. His presence is similar to Muhammad Ali from the perspective he has other goals and fighting is just a tool to get to the goal. This man is articulated, confident and is above the bs from Jones or DC. He is violent because he has to be not because he wants to be a role model or he is enjoying it but simply because it's the thing he is the best in. He is an extremely gifted athlete even Deontay Wilder has a lot weaker body than him with similar punching power but he is lot more insecure than Francis. Yeah, maybe Francis could look like a cocky and overconfident guy but people just simply don't understand it's rooted in reality. He is not just extremely strong and a big puncher but he is quick, brave and intelligent. With every fight he became a lot smarter and better all-round fighter. Yeah, his greatest asset is his physical ability but without good technique and understanding of the fights he would never made it at this level. He was the most dangerous fighter out there and even now. Jon Jones is believing he could handle Francis if he could survive the first round against him, but he doesn't realize that Francis is a man with punching, size and strength he never had to oppose plus he is a smart fighter. When Francis went against Rozenstruik like a threshing machine the reason wasn't that he didn't think it over but that he believed he could pull it off with high probability and Rozenstruik won't be able to dodge it or punish it and he was right. Francis is the most dangerous fighter out there and he knows it. Yeah, there are scenarios where Jon Jones could win against him but he has to survive until that time against someone that he can't imagine and even after that one second can cost him the match. Francis is a lot bigger and better fighter than Rampage Jackson maybe Jones believes that their fight could go down the same way but to be real he can't even imagine what kind of strength and violence he could oppose against Miocic and Francis is a lot more dangerous guy than Stipe right now.

As I learn more and more about Francis, the more respect I have for his mother. Living in a poverty stricken community, she raises this kind, respectful, determined man. His mother deserves much respect. A man that overcame more odds than most people see in a lifetime. In an organization where their champions generally have been training since they were young children, Francis became world champion in less than 10 years of training.
We love you Francis. It will be exciting to watch you develop and your career unfold. Your success will give other fighters the confidence to step out and force organizations to change in favor of the fighters.

@streamx3m almost all UFC fighters are calling for the same thing. You are considered an "independent contractor" but have huge restrictions in making money outside of the UFC.
Obviously Francis has aspirations on competing in boxing and whatever money the UFC offers Francis he will make at least twice that in one boxing event. So why would he settle for lesser pay in a longer far more constricting contract instead of a 1 fight deal with more financial incentives?
The UFC has always low balled fighters with the guise of being the "top" promotion. The main guys in the UFC are paid peanuts compared to other "top sports promotions".
The UFC knows that if the fighters get organized it would effect the bottom line of the company. That's why they've made it their top priority to have the "fighter union" be basically powerless unlike other major sports brand where athletes have a bigger say (Boxing, NBA, NFL etc).

@Kimisu nah, the OP was right, it just was not complete in my opinion. Technically, he is not a 'huge' draw in terms of *'UFC' PPV numbers* (which I think is a lie) so the company can make an argument he is not 'loved', because in their (UFC) terms, showing love/support would mean buying ppv, etc.
Of course people in America love him, like they love DJ and like they love Crawford for the boxing fans. But look at how their ppv numbers are compared to their peers so it affects their negotiations. DJ is now getting the money he deserves through ONE championship and has a wider audience because of his gaming also.
If Francis fights in any country in Africa, he will sell out the venue 10/10, and get people from around the world buying the ppv, for sure, I know my people...unfortunately, that is not happening in the US for some strange reason despite people showing genuine love.

Francis came out of nothing, shit he needed to go through to get from Cameroon to France, then in 7 years to UFC HW champion.. You really can't buy a person like that.
It's quite simple and smart strategy from Francis's management. Boxing probably is offering much more for Fury Vs. Ngannou then Jones Vs. Ngannou.
If by some miracle Ngannou became undisputed world boxing champion in his first fight, while being the undisputed HW champ as well, that would be unprecedented.
He could make the terms after that, and UFC would either accept them, or he can just make his own promotion, and pay good production value.
