still life (betamale) is a masterpiece. this video pales in comparison. this video is mere concept art, designed merely to prove both the shallowness and expressive capability of emojis. still life (betamale) accesses the core of NEET isolationism, internet subculture, internet-age fetish pornography, fantasy, and escapism. How far down does the rabbit hole go? The opium den of the 21st century, a realm of paradoxes. Is it transcendence into paradise, or descent into hell? Have we lost or found our true selves? As this world grows ever more infinite and lush and immersive and indistinguishable from the old world, and we creep closer to a transhumanist reality, as we abandon our ostensible fleshy selves, as we gaze through the glass of our monitors, we must ask ourselves: which me is the real me? Where am I freer? Will I be reborn or will I reach terminus?
does anyone else find it insane how every slight change in the rhythm of the synths represents each stage of this tragic relationship depicted with emojis so damn well. after watching the video, listen to the song with your eyes closed, you can distinguish exactly what feelings are associated with each shift. im high as a kite right now so idk if im making sense but i know someone has to get what i mean.
I think there's sort of an irony that emojis - what seem like a superficial, light and/or cartoonish representation of emotion/things - can convey such tragedy in an impactful way (for me at least, and many others it seems). Having dealt with some of the things conveyed in this video in my own life directly (I just somehow lucked into surviving - barely), when I first saw this it honestly really had an emotional impact, which again is kind of surreal because at the end of the day - it's just emojis.
I feel like this is one of the greatest film clips I've ever seen.

Oneohtrix Point Never is one of the best musical discoveries I've ever made.
Never before have I heard any as original and interesting as his work. His sound can go from ambient soundscapes, straight to looped grunting samples in the blink of an eye, and I love it all.
Honestly, one of the most important electronic musicians of modern times.

I agree, I kick myself for not discovering him sooner. From his spacey ambiance to glitchy plunderphonics, I find myself in awe of where his music transports me. G.O.D. was just insane. I hear something different almost each time I listen to it, which is practically daily, a month later. You should check out his Dania Shapes and Chuck Person pseudonyms. He pretty much launched the Vaporwave genre with Eccojams.

It only just now strikes me that this video was made before the emoji overhaul. It used to feel somewhere on the cutting edge and one simple shading change has forever set it in the 2010s. Hits a little different now.

This dude literally told a story of a man getting his heartbroken and ended up dying after the pills and alcohol with EMOJI'S and it had more emotional depth than the actual Emoji Movie!!
I can't get over how good that was just by using emoticons and sound.

Such a unique and minimalistic music video, squeezing the full potential out of the modern emoji-based communication.
I think this tells a linear story of an unhappy person, who spends his time on his phone, waiting for someone to contact him. Up until 1:33, we only see the ticking clock, a sad face and a phone. But one day, the person gets that message he has been presumably waiting for. He meets a girl and his eyes become shaped like hearts, he is ecstatic. It makes me think that this person had been lonely and trying some dating app with little success. Anyway, they talk to each other, and he seems to hit it off with her, until the person gets rejected by her. This shatters the person and sends his mental health down. He starts using drugs, gets in fights and spends his savings. Gradually his state gets worse, until he gets close to death. Flashes of possible life paths go through his vision, until he dies, implicated by the skull.
I'm just surprised that such minimalistic style could make for a compelling story.

I come back to this song once every while, it's definitely one of my favorite few minutes of the month searching for the song's name and losing myself in the middle of the screen specially at the end. ❤
The first comments on this video (not trying to preach that I saw it first or that I am better) were pretty much all negative, some good comments come along and it snowballs to pretty much all praise. It looks like people need the confirmation from other people before they are able to praise things like this. idk I just think its interesting.

The relative paucity of meaning in an emoticon (compared to even a selection of anesthetized stills [Problem Areas]) shows the ultimate tragedy -- a life unlived, with most of its meaning lost in the aether of telecommunications -- the birth of a boring angel.

Put this in the Criterion Collection
Pause this music video at any given second and you just see an emoji devoid of any greater meaning and you can't ascertain its context, but together the flow of the sequence of specific emojis turns into a narrative that tells a story and conveys emotions beyond that of any one emoji, and much deeper. In the same way, if you take a look at someone at any one point in their life, you're only getting a small slice of the overall story, devoid of much context. So to really understand someone, you'd need to know more of their story. Just a random observation!

i like to think of this album as an old english epic. this whole album is just a legend of a journey. boring angel is the perfect intro track because, like a video game (in a sense), it shows you the kind of textures and transitions the whole album is gonna have in an elementary way. also the album starts with an organ and ends with an organ, which is why i love chrome country.. i just love this whole album, 10/10.

It's about a guy that has a sad and lonely life then he gets a wake up call, he meets a girl and falls in love, they get into a relationship, she breaks up, he starts to get sad and depressed, becomes and alcoholic, starts taking drugs and gets into fights, gambles all his money away then his whole life flashes before his eyes and he dies! And that's how I saw it

I love this video, damn, it's so simple yet I have to watch it again and again
so the dude meets a girl and hangs out with the girl they become a couple then she suddenly just dumps him and hes left with a huge void in his heart
he quickly resorts to alcohol and cigarettes to fill that void because hes in a catatonic state where basically anything self-destructive can help him actually _feel_ something
cigarettes lead him into harder drugs and he becomes increasingly more problematic even with a cop going after him
he eventually dies of an overdose and as he lets go of the grip of consciousness he starts having memories and flashbacks
he sees his life flash before his eyes like when youre about to die except he starts imagining what life wouldve been like if she never rejected him with them having a child and growing old together
and then when you least expect it he dies
