That’s why it’s called a Test man. It tests you mentally and physically over 5 days.
Makes total sense!
@@AverageSportsFan although it's 5days... In a day 90overs are bowled with 45min lunch break n 20min tea break.
Good Reaction,My Friend.
The amazing thing about a 5 Day cricket match between competing Countries is that it can often end in a draw. :)
Test cricket is the purest form of the game.
You can’t fluke a win in test cricket. The best players rise to the top.
Well, the purest form surely is village cricket
@@eggchipsnbeans or gully cricket
unless you lose 3 wickets in the last over to a michael clark spin attack.. ill never forget that.. i know his batting was nuts but those 3 wickets in the last over of the game against india will be forever gold in my mind
@@bolix11 that was phenomenal - they underestimated his bowling abilities.
thats why they call the 5 day game test cricket, its a test of your physical strength and your mental strength
Makes total sense. I don’t know if I could pass that test haha
My Grandma, a total cricket tragic, described the 3 formats as a test is like chess, one dayers (50/50) is your checkers and T20 is snakes n ladders.
@@jmc7636 very correctly described 😃😃
Test cricket is amazing. The tension mounts over the days and momentum can swing hour to hour throughout the game. There are 3 sessions of play a day that for 2 hours each and if a game goes into the last session of the last day and both teams can still win it is super exciting. Not many people watch all of a match however it’s common to ha e the game on TV or the radio on in the background. In Australia even some workplaces will have it on the radio in the background. As it is a summer sport your childhood is filled with cricket on in summer and as it’s played all round the world often you will sit up and watch your nation play another team late at night or if you can’t stay up eagerly await the morning to check the scores. I know 5 days sounds almost ridiculous but it add so much tension. Unlike US spots like baseball 160+ or NBA 82 games, test nations.might only play 7-10 matches a year to each match means a lot. This also adds to the tension. Also test cricket is Only played at international level, not domestic so it’s super important. Other forms of cricket are played at domestic level as well as international.
That’s amazing. Sounds like you have quite some memories! I love it!
Listening to the last season when you know one side needs a gettable runs to win and the other side only needs 1 wicket means all four results are possible
That's true. Test Cricket is real cricket. But the longest format is played domestically in most nations.
@@nikhilmukherjee8643 no most countries play a shorter version 3-4 day cricket. I’m not aware of any counties that play 5 day first class cricket.
You asked a question about cricket injuries the worst was Phil Hughes he was very randomly hit by a fast ball under his helmet whilst batting and he sadly passed away
Good lord that is awful. More dangerous of a sport than you'd think
Yeah the black day in cricket
Cricket is a British Empire sport. Brought to every country of the Empire by the Brits it flourished, and became the game of choice. (AFL Football in Australia also had its 'roots' in cricket as an off season 'keep fit' regime).
IPL is extremely huge man top players get paid 2.2 million USD for just one and a half month where they play 14 games. It's insane if we didn't have covid restrictions every single stadium would be full with an average crowd of 60k per game.
That’s unreal! Who would’ve known there’s so much money in cricket! And thats great to hear that the fans are so loyal!
@@AverageSportsFan loyal..!?
Cricket is like religion in India.
The salaries vary wildly between players and seasons.
The five days are made up of 6 hours a day.... which is also split up into 3 X 2 hours sessions... after the first session the players break for lunch for 40 minutes and after the second session they break for 20 minutes for afternoon tea. Yes, it's an English game. :)
In recent years, helmets have been mandated for batsmen and progressively improved, especially since the death of a South Australian batsman a few years ago. That really shook up the cricketing world, because he was wearing a helmet, but it did not protect his neck adequately.
The comman injuries likes hamstring strains , ankle strains ,and back injuries and many more
I'm watching this 20 minutes after upload and you're at 756 subs, you're doing well

A player can be injured in many ways, hit by the ball, pull a muscle, strain or have some type of pain.
In Australia we grow up catching without a glove. Start with tennis balls then up to cricket balls. Hurts at first but you learn fast. Hardens your hands.
Definitely something about cupping it and taking away momentum rather than flat or just letting it clap into your hand. Super impressive
With a little give so you can shock absorb
The Indian Premiere League 2021 starts on April 9th. Try watching the matches. That'll help you.
Mate this is awesome, your growing so fast it’s awesome to see
Thank you so much! The hard work is definitely paying off!!
Ab de Villiers is one of the best cricket batsman , fielder as well as a wicket keeper you should definitely check out his fastest century highlights against west Indies he's called mr 360 and superman of cricket beacuse of his insane skills ❤️❤️❤️.
Cricket balls hurt soooo much but you get used to the pain lol.
The 5 day game for test matches is a more recent introduction. Back in the day, a test match lasted until both sides had had their 2 innings and in theory could go on forever if you couldn't bowl a side out. The lengthiest recorded was the `timeless' between England and South Africa at Durban, South Africa, on 3-14 March 1939. It was abandoned after ten days (eighth day rained off) because the ship taking the England team home was due to leave.
5 days is the test of nerves...team with strong physique and psyche wins
You should definitely react to a Shane Warne highlights vid.
Having played both Cricket and Baseball, you don't want to come a cropper to a Cricket ball! I took one at full pelt to the gut, took me over half an hour to get my breath back!
Most common injuries are a sore thigh, fingers or forearm, but the ball can break your arm or leg quite easily too. A less common injury is a fractured eye socket, as sometimes the force from the ball, can actually get through the face shield and smash the batsman's eye. Even less common, death, though has happened!
For a true cricket lover Test Cricket is the best form of the game. The shorter forms are fun, I love the IPL, but test cricket is what I like most.
A 5 day Test Match is kind of like the never ending game of baseball played by the Sandlot Kids.... :-)
Testing players capacity on all areas thats the reason its called TEST match
Test cricket is known as test cricket because colonies of the British empire used to test themselves against their colonisers
IPL is the most commercialised form in the T20 format. Teams bid for the best worldwide players and many are paid in the millions for relatively short tournaments. The well stocked batsman you mentioned here was Shane Watson,an all rounder from Australia. An allrounder is good at both batting and bowling. Generally but not always there 6 specialist batsmen,4 bowlers and a wicketkeeper. It all depends on the form of cricket. Generally more all rounders in the shorter forms in T20 and T50. A specialist batsman can bowl. A wicketkeeper can theoretically bowl but obviously there needs to be another fieldsman who can do his job.
Australia currently has 2 specialist wicketkeepers playing in the same team. The 2nd wicketkeeper was chosen for his batting as he topped the averages for the season. Generally the great Test batsmen have averaged over 50 over long careers. Over 45 is very good especially for an opener who faces the new ball which is harder to play. When the ball is new,the outstanding seam has a distinct benefit to the bowler. If held in a particular position, the bowler can make the ball CUT to the left or right off of the pitch. Some bowlers can also SWING the ball through the air up to a metre. Swing into the batsman then cut away in the other direction. This is where the skill comes in. The long run ups are for speed and momentum for delivery. Fast bowlers who delivery at up to 155kmh (about 95mph). Batsman have about 0.5 second to react to the ball to decide whether to play or not.
The other type of bowler shown here is a spin bowler looking to deceive the batsmen through drift, spin and guile (variability). Another form of strategy in the game. They usually bowl at between 70 and 90 kmh. (35 to 50 mph).
You mentioned catching with no gloves. Yes the cricket ball is much harder than baseball and when you see the infield catches (less than 30 metres from the bat),you realise the reaction time is minute and yes by heck many of them hurt. Many caught off their bowling (around 22 yards, the length between the wickets) especially. Some catches are caught outstretched behind them. Brilliant catches.
Check out the best swing and spin bowler clips after the best catches. A current great swing bowler is James Anderson from England. Shane Warne from Australia is the considered the king in spin bowling. Took over 700 Test wickets in a famous career. Worshipped in India as their pitches are made for spin and they've developed many of history's great bowlers of that type. His personal life was always a topic of discussion. Shane never had a weary day on the field!
Yes it's called Test cricket that reason. It's a test of skill, stamina and strategy. The games in India are probably the hardest (though Australia played 1 game in Sharjah in the middle East in 52C heat). Mid 40C maxs with high humidity. Games can last 30 hours (6 hours play daily) but most are less than that, some in 2 or 3 days.
Keep up the great reviews. You'll have 1000 subs in no time.
Amazing! Thank you so much for the breakdown! I’m gonna do a best catches reaction soon!
Hey buddy, great video. You've picked up some really useful stuff through watching this video (which is a really great description of the basics).
In terms of your questions - the most common ways batters have to retire through injury is broken fingers (you're absolutely right about how hard the ball is - and if you get finger trapped between the ball and bat handle....), also sometimes when running they'll get a strain.
You're right about the Test form of cricket being mentally tough,I think that's why it's my favourite form of the game. You get time for teams to apply psychological pressure, there's definitely a mental side to doing well at it. Also, even though it has all that time, a game can totally change on one ball or one innings from a batsman. Plus, test series are usually multiple games over a whole summer, so you might have to play 6 test matches in a couple of months - so you get all sorts of team psychology going on in that time - can one team fight their way back from losing one test or will the team that won the first game totally dominate?
The thing with Test cricket is that you can end up watching all 5 days really intensely- but you can also have it on in the background (it's why it's still broadcast on the radio in the UK) and go and do stuff and come back to it.
It's great to see how much you're enjoying learning about it - it really is a great sport, and right now there are some of the very best players in my lifetime...
Plus, Test cricket is usually played in summer, so you are spending all day outdoors on super hot and sunny days
@@tK-be6ns absolutely especially in India and Australia. At least they get drinks breaks now!
You are new to Cricket and this video with educate you about Cricket a big thanks. Ho Ho thats good, thanks.
It's not that hard on bowler's shoulder because the movement of bowling is a natural movement of ball and socket joint unlike baseball which has an unnatural movement of throwing. There is a sports science video on this.
at 6:35 on, you have understood the game, the pressure and perfection that must be upheld....one nod off can cause a drop catch which can loose your team the game...peace
Cheers! I will keep trying haha
Most injuries in cricket will come from contact with the ball. Cricket balls are basically rocks covered in a thin layer of leather, they're really hard and heavy, and can travel at 100+ mph, so you really don't want to get in the way of one!
6:08 I think it's comparable to a Golf tournament which goes on for 3-4 days where you go to sleep knowing the next day you'll continue where you left today.
I like the comparison!
alright man love your videos! let's get to 1K
Thank you so much!! We are so close!!
So 3 weeks ago, 700 subs.
Then the dude made a cricket video... 3K+ now.
You struck gold, bro!✌️
The cool thing about a test match (5 days) is that the pitch that they play on wears down, so specific bowlers are selected in the team and are used to try and exploit a degrading pitch. Typically spin bowlers. Spinners spin the ball in the air and as the pitch gets roughed up the ball will grip into the pitch and turn. When spin bowlers start dominating in a match, the fielders will start to crowd the batter to look for a catch, this for me along with the first morning play is most exciting.
great to see ya growing xx
Thank you so much! Means a whole lot!
It is hard but you ll get use to it.. my shoulder Have devloped quite a bit after bowling for years
3:45 that comes by practice... And becomes a habit. Even I can do that.😎
The only problem is when it is a fail😬it hurts for several weeks😅😖
Haha something you must ease into I guess. I won't be trying it any time soon lol
The 'Hulk' in blue was Shane Watson. I think more 'Thor' lol😊
I am a semi-professional cricketer myself and i tell ya fast bowling is one of the toughest thing to do physically, for a person to bowl over 90miles or 140KMPh without bending their elbow means that you have to use your whole body from head to toe, first thing is alignment for sure, and running up to the crease and putting in all that energy at the crease is very very hard and to do that for hours repetitively for hours you can imagine, so injuries can be from hamstring to shoulders to back to what whatever you want to call it, you use your whole body
Ah wow that’s awesome! And I can only imagine how sore you’d be after a full day of bowling/playing!
Test cricket is played in 3 two hour sessions. There have been test matches played where the 5 day limit was not used
Looks like you might be becoming a new cricket fan! Hope you enjoy the journey!
I definitely am! Thank you so much!
Since you are watching all kinds of games, you must watch Kabaddi , which is a very interesting game as well.
I've had a few requests for it... Never heard of it before. I'll check it out!
@@AverageSportsFan Its going to be something surprising and almost everyone finds it interesting.
Plus it is good for views as well, people in India and outside themselves are curious about the game.
Most common injury is the leather hard ball hitting a player and fraturing fingers shoulder dislocation or sometimes concussions only a few times death because of ball hitting the head of any player without or with the helmet
And at the end of 5 days, the game can end in a draw
... and there have been 2 tied Tests.
Steve Smith, one of the greatest batsman today, when he plays test matches, he never sleeps through the 5 days of play.
That just sounds unhealthy lol
No, that's A joke. 😂
Every Sportsperson needs proper sleep to perform well.
@@prakharrai8819 no he actually doesnt sleep
I don't believe even if he behaves like someone who doesn't sleep.
A few things:
1. Test cricket is played in white clothing, ODIs and T20s in coloured clothing
2. Test cricket has no fielding restrictions, ODIs and T20s have limits on how many players can or must field inside or outside the inner ring
3. Test cricket ends in a draw when you can't bowl out your opponents twice over the time period - test cricket 5 days, lesser cricket from 3 to 5 days depending on the competition. ODIs and T20s only end in a draw when both teams score exactly the same number of runs
4. Test cricket has no limit to the number of overs a bowler may bowl but a team must normally bowl at least 80 overs in a day otherwise time penalties may kick in (losing overs, etc.). In ODIs a bowler may only bowl 10 overs and in T20 4 overs, so at least 5 bowlers must be used
Foot cramp is the most common injury
Full tosses are generally easier to hit than if a ball bounces as it's flight path is easier to read...5 day games are only for the purists..cricket gained a boost in popularity with the introduction of the 50 over matches and again recently with the advent of 20 over games..the different over games appeal to the different audiences that tend to watch them.
I see what you mean. It takes a keen and trained eye to be able to stay engaged with 5 days of anything!
@@AverageSportsFan more an understanding of strategy and the actual differences involved with the different formats...and the payoff...more Sixers in a 20/20 match..fast paced and an instant result...
1:50 a sprain or hamstring injury for bowlers
Sprain or fracture for fielders
Concussion or fracture for batsmen
That hulk you speak of, Shane Watson one of my favourite players in the last few decades
Great reaction buddy.
Glad you enjoyed! Thank you!
In 2 months he got 9k subscribers. great 👍👍
"5 days?! That's insane! How do you even..." At this level of cricket (what you see in the video) the players are superhuman. The batsmen have hand-eye coordination and reflexes that you won't believe. And the players are fit, until a few years ago.
Usually finger or shoulder injuries or something
a test match not always played for 5 days . if in , batting side could be off field for 2 days or more depends on how long your team bats for . Also best to leave time to get all 10 batsman out so can win . a team has to get 10 wickets to win .
6 th way is out only when bowler touches the ball
There is a technique to catching, if you move your hands back with the ball and keep the soft it's easier.
Makes sense. I used to have to figure that out when I forgot to bring my glove to baseball practice lol
They measured a quick bowlers distance travelled in one 20 over day and it was around the length of a marathon! 26miles and in test cricket you end up doing that the next day to. Its the physically hardest sport i played. I played football, athletics and others. I never got to play multi day cricket as my minor county side didnt at that point it was all 50 over games. But club side id bowl 23 overs in one game and bat at 4-6 by Monday i was done in. My sons play 2 and 3 day games they love them. Especially the food you get.
Yes cricket ball is harder than baseball and also tough to catch the ball with gloves
That muscular Hulk was Shane Watson one of the arguably the greatest all-rounder in history of limited overs cricket.
A broken rib is probably the most common injury to get a sub
Australia also have a league called the Big Bash.
The most dangerous injury in cricket is that couple of players died because the ball hit in their head or any soft part of the body....as the ball is very hard...so you have to train very hard even to catch the ball.... otherwise it may even break your hands ✌️
dude in 2 days 700 to 5k subs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
People break fingers catching it its tht hard and heavy
most common injury in cricket would be a hamstring injury... or a finger injury
IN Bangladesh, we use electric tape with tennis ball, make the tennis ball harder so that it's able to play cricket. it's much safer than original cricket ball, no helmet needed.
I'm 23, Still play cricket in Every Friday with ages of 16-25yrs old peoples
That’s amazing! Thank you for sharing. Does a tennis ball wrapped in electric tape really resemble a cricket ball that much?
@@AverageSportsFan yep
@@AverageSportsFan for playing casual cricket with friends, tennis ball is enough and you can throw ball like baseball, you can throw it in your fashion
The most "common" injuries are most probably fractures when the ball hits the batsman
I think close to 100 people have died in games of cricket - some are from heart attacks, but more often it's being struck in the head by the cricket ball. Even though batsmen wear helmets, they sometimes come just under and strike a player near their ear. Phillip Hughes as an example :/
Hitting it without bounce is easier if it's not swinging. Spinners with bounce turns the direction after bounce making it unpredictable. "Shane Warne" from AUS is probably best spinner I have seen.

Reason it is called test cricket as it s true test of temperement and skill of the player
Makes total sense!
And you cannot fluke a win in tests ,, it really tests you and your patience and technique
I imagine that's why they call it "Test" cricket . Because it goes so long that it is really taxing on your mind and body . Remember that cricket is played in the summer , and in tests , the fielding team can be standing out in the sun all day , sometimes with nothing coming their way for hours , that would drain me . Then you have to get up and bat or bowl or run and catch . Imagine standing in the tropical sun for hours in 100 degree heat , then having to react . then do it again and again for 5 days . its nuts . Cricket is a much loved sport , in Aus. in England , South Africa , Pakistan , Bangladesh , Sri Lanka , but in India , it's a religion .
The best Test Matches , in my opinion are part of a perpetual contest between Australia and England called the Ashes . Ashes cricket has it's own long history which you can search for on youtube.

My dad once gave me a wise observation as to the primary difference between cricket and baseball...
When viewed as a contest between bat and ball, baseball is _heavily_ biased toward the ball. Whereas in cricket, there is pretty much an even chance of scoring a run as not scoring a run.
