I've been intermittent fasting 3 months with so many benifits. But I wasn't losing weight. I really didnt want to lower carbs. Finally I have started lowering carbs and already lost lbs in 3 days. I'm starting to think I was in denial about my chocolate addiction. Lol. Let's keep going
Thomas, you my friend are inspirational! I had heard people talking about keto and IF for a while now, when I decided to take the "plunge" and do something about my weight, I started searching the internet. Thank God I found you! Your videos are amazing. The way that you are so able to breakdown the science behind what you're talking about, truly blows my mind. I don't know if you will even see this comment, since it is on an older video, but I hope you do! This video was exactly what I needed. I was doing too much daily 16-8. That turned into daily omad. Both methods were being done utilizing keto, but NOW I know that I need to fast every OTHER day, to really reap more benefits, without slowing down my metabolism too much in the process. Huge shout out, from Texas!
Hey Thomas I love your channel. I have water fasted for 5-6 days a couple of times and it seemed pretty hard. i just lit a fire under my but and decided it was time to loose the fat.Last week I started on Monday with a water fast til Wednesday and then Thursday i went dry fast and then ate keto Friday ,Saturday and Sunday. this was good but i didnt get into keto until the mid day on Thursday. I changed it up and went dry on Monday and i was making large ketones by the end of the day and then am water fasting the next three days.i am doing cardio and workout on the water fast days. IT IS WORKING! i have lost 21 pounds in 10 days. i plan to do this two more weeks to reach my goal.I feel so much better on fast days when i have been eating the ketogenic diet before I water fast. Thanks for the detailed info, based on research.
I´m doing KEto W/ Fasting, i always eat between 12h and 20h, with keto plan. It works very well for me. Maybe once a week ou once every two week, i have a trash meal, where i dont care if i drink wine, eat carbs, whatever... i just want feel human that meal ahahah and it works. Good luck for u all on this path
Jonathan Strange...I was just thinking, that this morning. I'm in fasting now, I might break it at 12pm, with a bullet coffee, it will end my 18hr fast, but I'm not hungry.
Barbra Miller couldn't walk into Kroger without giving in to the temptions of carbs to eating a couple pastries. The guilt and frustration afterwards was horrible. Now I enjoy fasting because walking through the bakery I feel repulsed by the carbs! Reclaimed the power and control over my health. Nothing tastes as good as healthy feels!
Great video. This is what I’ve been doing for a few months now and was finally able to shed the excess hormonal weight. One benefit that makes fasting so much easier when you are already in ketosis. I would love if you could go into the difference of cravings when not doing keto before fasting. Seems like it takes the body a lot of time and energy to get to ketosis, but if you already are in ketosis the fast is way more productive. I sense there is another layer for those who struggle with cravings.
Hi Thomas, thanks for making so many helpful videos. I've been doing this, keto and fasting (alternate day 4:3), specifically for weight loss for 3 months. I've lost 10 kilos and have loads more energy!
I am combining intermittent fasting & the keto lifestyle & I don't eat any sweets except whatever natural sugars that may come from some veggies & working out which has always been a part of my lifestyle & I am definitely seeing results ... After weightlifting for years I am finally seeing the results I want.
Finally, what I wanted to hear. I’ve listened to your channel for 3 months, 3 months into Keto, 1 month into fasting 2x a week. More content is very welcome on this subject, with topics that combine breaking the fast properly at the right time with respect to workouts ( cardio vs. weight training ) I know there are two videos like that but something that ties in with this and those two videos.
Just finished 48hrs fast. Gotta say I feel good, muscles sliightly more toned and definitively could notice my brain working faster but daaaaaaamn it feels good slurping down some bone broth and devouring everything within reach afterwards.
FINALLY I get why keto and IF work so well together... the primer example really made sense to me. Question: how does one incorporate strength training into this routine? I find that I feel faint when I try to workout in a fasted state while doing ketosis.
Back in College, i used to Gym whilst on the fast. I found morning times were the most helpful. I would say to do your weight training either first thing in the morning OR after your meals, however, you'll never be as strong if you're burning more calories than what you're putting in.
I am a 63 year old male, former runner, still active, still working full-time and on a Keto diet. I understand the attributes of fasting and one meal a day protocols. (as advocated by both Jason Fung and Valter Longo) Recently, I have been looking into the work of Dr. Stuart Phillips with respect to protein requirements, especially as we get older. I wonder if you could comment on balancing fasting with proper protein intake.
Ive been doing Intermittent Fasting on and off for 10 plus years and find it to be amazing for so many things. I just need to wrap my Brain around what I need to eat for Ketosis. I’m trying to compile the best list of good fats. I generally don’t get more than 50 grams of Carbohydrates a day into my diet... 5 to 6 days a week average. Ive been a Protein nerd and self proclaimed local expert on the various truly healthy sources, for over 20 years... it’s the Healthy Fats that I am trying hard to integrate... and one of the primary reasons I SO enjoy Thomas’s videos. I dig the science, I just need to integrate it into my eating and lifestyle. Thanks Thomas, please continue to do the Amazing work you have done educating people. TJ
I currently have a 12 hour feeding window on most days and fast once weekly for 20 hours. By recommending 3 fasts per week, will 20 hours per fast be sufficient, too much, or not enough?
I have loved doing 2 24hr fasts per week along with 12-18hrs per day. But I am super flexible with food and focus on super low meal frequency. As to which fats - butter and coconut oil are my top two but beef fat or pork fat in fatty cuts of meat are also a favorite of mine. Pho with tons of sprouts and veggies and no noodles is a go to for me. I get into keto so easily now days I use fasting more but will also often eat mostly keto between fasts as well. If I wanna bulk a little I may eat some more carbs or higher protein. I would finally mention high salt as being another key to my diet plan for maximizing insulin sensitivity.
the thing I've found out about fats is that unless they are mixed with Carbs, there isn't a ton of variation in food, but there is variation in "breed". TAke cheese for example. there are thousands of types of cheese, it's almost like wine! Then there are seeds and nuts, your eggs, your fatty meats, avocados (my personal favorite) various oils like coconut oil and MCT oil. There are a few more but those are your basics. If you move away from those though you tend to start moving into proccesed foods, which arent awful but not reccomended for an over all healthy life style (which i'm sure you are aware of).
Jesse Prososki Very good information and points. Thank you. I use the MCTs and am a huge egg person, have been for 20 plus years. I’m just trying to integrate sone variation as well. I have 3 Avocados that have been sitting in my Fridge for 3 weeks... I’m just working at working them into my diet... lol I’m not very adventurous when it comes to preparing foods. I look at them as fuel, and pretty much eat the sane things over and over. It’s always worked wonders for me, but with age and changes in my body, i have to make changes as well... I know this. Thanks for the insight.
3.55 kgs in 16 days, IF was 2-3 days for the first week, now every day for at least 16 hrs. So far no problems, but monitoring it closely. Had a flu feeling today with diarrhea, lethargy and feeling a tiny bit sick, but not really nauseous. But ok tonight :) Lol, think I ate too much though, tonight (2 meals spread 6 hrs apart). Probably weigh a bit more tomorrow. Will see. But really happy with Keto/IF. Working well for me I think. BTW .... LOVE LOVE LOVE you videos. Thank you so much for changing my life
Thomas, thanks for this video. I've been IFing for about two months now, nearly every day. I feel great, look great, have dropped weight and am still able to work out hard. I've also been eating a ketogenic diet as well, sort of as a default conclusion after watching so many of your videos. But my diet is pretty haphazard as far as entering/breaking fasts most effectively. I'd request for a video talking about what to eat as we enter/exit the fast. I know you have "how to break a fast" and how to get back into ketosis quickly videos. I guess I'm saying, more of that. Thanks again!
Frank Beaulieu arent they just? My trick is to put all my high nutrient foods into a shake. Nutritional yeast, bone broth, spirulina, chia, kale, spinach, egg and all the other goodies. Its worked for me. It cut out my cravings totally. Though I do have to have my shake daily. 24 hrs IF is all Ive been able to manage so far for fasting. I hope you get to conquer those carbs.😆
I think that the longer you fast, the less unhealthy carbs and other unhealthy foods are. I love fried food and I find that gorging on junk food every now and then and fast the day after is a lot easier and more satisfactory than eating like a monk for those two days.
Is this a good meal plan for keto and intermittent fasting Morning:apple cider vinegar with lemon and cinnamon and himalayan pink salt Black coffee or green tea First meal 4pm:3 cups salad with 2tsb olive oil 1tsb nutrional yeast and 5 pecans Last mead 7.30pm: 2 cups salad fatty protein 5oz asparagus with butter
Is 16:8 safe for daily use? I’ve been doing it the last 4 months with 2-24 hr fasts. I’ve learned so much about my appetite and hunger cues! A rumbling belly doesn’t always mean I’m hungry!
Ditto - I too would like advice on what I can eat after a fasting period that enables me to transition back to Keto Thomas. Your guidance is appreciated. Thanks.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video! New to Keto diet. Typically from Monday to Friday I do not eat till noon and supper about 8 pm. Try to eat 3 times on weekends. Will try eating 3 times on Wednesdays so I am being more intermittent with fasting. Looking forward to watching your other videos!
Would you recommend having a keto meal after a 16 hour fast to stay in ketosis longer if I'm going to stay on a regular non-keto diet otherwise? Thank you.
302lbs in Jan 1 and now I’m 245. All from fasting and keto. Also getting strong. I recommend on the 4th month on fasting and keto to eat carbs and don’t fast for 2 weeks. You will gain about 10lbs but it will shock your metabolism and kick you out of keto but after the 4-5 days back on keto and you will start to feel hungry and lose weight fast again
You can still eat enough calories in the time you have to eat when you do IF though. You can do IF every day and not be deficient in your macro nutrients and phytonutrients.
mtl47, yeah exactly. I am not sure why Thomas keeps saying that you should not fast every day. I have been eating one meal a day in the evening, every single day, for a while now, while practising martial arts at least twice or three times per week, in the evenings before dinner. When I don't have karate classes, I lift weight or I jump some serious rope. All my training is done fasted, of course. I feel great, my strength and endurance has never been so good. I regularly test my blood ketones (beta hydroxy-butirate) and I tend to be in ketosis since around 9 am for the rest of the day, even the days following a starchy meal. I eat only whole food, though. All my labs (blood tests) are great. Granted, I pay a lot of attention to eating lots of colourful veggies everyday, nuts, but also animal proteins sources like cheese (I live in France), eggs, meat from time to time etc. Again, I feel great, am not hungry throughout the day, am more focused in my work (I am a software engineer) and my willpower increased like hell. Heck, I just don't want to let go of all these gains. I'll let you guys know the day I start having deficiencies etc, real science/experiment style. But so far, fasting everyday has been great. Of course I am not as big as Thomas 😂. But that is not my goal in life. I enjoy beeing under 10% of body fat, weigh 67,5kg for 173cm, having 6 pack abs, 47bpm of resting heart rate and I am 41 years old. Really, from where I sit, fasting everyday works just great.
mtl47 depends on the person. My maintenance calories are around 2300; I personally find it extremely difficult t eat OMAD and get in all my calories, but doable with 2MAD.
CandCfam that's what I mean. You have to make it work for you as an individual but like I said you can still get the calories needed while you're doing IF everyday.
Discuss the ketosis trigger point and best methods to layer IF with Ketosis. I find that it’s highly effective to do cardio within the first 24 hrs of fasting to trigger a deep ketosis from there it’s easy to maintain ketone levels. Without the cardio I find the body doesn’t fully accept ketosis mode and sits in low energy glucose mode that makes you feel terrible. It’s so subtle but is seriously effective, it’s as though the body has resistance to switch to full ketosis at about 0.3mmol so better to blast through than waste time and energy on the edge.
I’ve been doing 20:4/OMAD fasting for over a month and I feel great. Lost 15+ lbs so far. I’ve been trying to switch over to ketogenic diet too, although that has been a little harder.
do you get tired/really sleepy after eating? I am on OMAD, and eating a surplus for muscle growth. 2500cals in one sitting was more than doable but the lethargy that follows...
Jono Liew I don’t, but I’m not eating a surplus of calories so that may be why. After getting out of the military I went into law enforcement for about 7 years, most of which was night shift. I was on a steady diet of junk food and Mountain Dew. I ballooned up like Oprah and am trying to fix my mistakes.
I loved the way you articulated your talk this time. You spoke a bit more slowly than in other videos and that has helped me follow your great talk. Thank you!
Thomas, how about doing multi segmented video series delving into details of igf1 lowering benefits and the links with longevity and other health benefits of the different types of fasting (i.e. 16/8 lean gains, 24 hour fast, 48 hour, 72 hour and every other day fasting etc.) And how these regimens coupled with a ketogenic diet/lifestyle can benefit ones overall health and well being.
Fasting every other day is great for Weight loss and autophagy. However, you need to keep your calorie intake relatively the same because the body can adapt to lowered calorie intake and lower your metabolic rate
He keeps it so real and even shares his "flaws" of stretch marks with us WOW 💯😎 Man ur an amazing brother. I'm gonna start embracing my scars and stretch marks more. thanks so much for this!!!
Thomas, I think you do an amazing job at everything you do. Thank you for giving us the science behind what can make us successful in our WOE. I share your videos a lot!!! One thing I would like to ask is that the graphics would depict the keto friendly foods more. For example, in this video, there's a hamburger with buns, and corn in the salad. Thanks!
😩Sugar is #1 addictive & starch/carbs which seems to convert to sugars is #2. I’ve never done drugs but if it’s anything like being addicted to #1 or #2 I feel really sorry for drug addicts and now have a great deal of compassion & empathy for them. 😔
I am a recovering addict and I've been clean for over a year.. my addiction with food such as sugar carbs has been a very hard to break..I think changing your diet is harder than getting off drugs personally from my recent experience
I’m still trying to get the balance between Ketosis and intermittent fasting for health/body repair and muscle gain. Is it best to do intermittent fasting everyday while following a Ketogenic diet and have a day or maybe two of total fasting?
Hi Thomas, I will like a video that puts everything together. ACV, ketosis, IF and exercise. I fast and do ketosis but I feel that when I take ACV I am more hungry and don't do more than 16 hrs fast.
Add alittle Himalayan salt to your water ... I had the same issue ... ACV cranks up the hunger way faster ... but also I started adding cinnamon and go get powder to ACV and noticed that also helped
I am battling some autoimmune issue. I always wanted to try keto fasting but never was motivated or disciplined enough to begin. Well I’m so miserable from this auto immune issue that I will do anything. I have started Keto last week and intermittent fasting and I have no problem with it. I did get cold hands and feet though like you said so I am learning to listen to my body
What are your thoughts on a 20/4 hour fasting split while doing a ketogenic diet? It's been a very useful method for me to lose body fat but how do I adapt for maintenance at my current ish weight?
If you can tell us how to break a fast on ketosis, how to exercice and/or lift, how to manage minerals during fasting + ketosis (specially potassium), what are the most comun mistakes (stuff that apply on fasting alone but wouldn't apply when with ketosis)
Thomas,,,Great vid,,,,44+ weeks in im on Keto,ADF,waterfast,,,,,,,, my protocol is waterfast Sat,Sun,,,,,sun break fast at 4pm,,,,,,, Mon,We'd,Fri 2 keto meals,,,,Tues,Thurs one meal at 4pm an omelette,,,,,,,,so 9 meals in a week,,,,,,,,the day prior to fast I have a cheat meal,,,,,,,,,,waterfast gets us into Keto fast,,,,,,,Thanks for your great vids,,,lived your collaborators with Dr Berg,,,,
I love your videos. You use pure logos and let us come to the right conclusions ourselves, giving options to many people with varying lifestyles. Makes for great ethos to me. Thank you for incorporating a scientific approach with such a vast spectrum and volume of empirical evidence. Love your videos and you’ve helped me in my journey toward a lifestyle that allows me to maintain a body I feel proud of.💜 I’d love to see a video on cellulite!
I've started doing intermittent fasting, and I'd like to say thank you for all your useful information. Is it okay to drink bulletproof coffee early in the morning while fasting?
Hey Thomas, how about talking about breaking a fast with ketogenic meals. I seem to recall once you did a video about breaking the fast but if I remember right it was with carbs. Need to go look that back up again and rewatch. Anyway, maybe that is a good topic to go to next after this one? Thanks for your videos, they are always so good! Appreciate you!
When I was 16 I weighed 285 pounds. I cut out carbs started living in a ketosis. I’m 27 now and weigh 185 pounds as strong as an ox and sick of hearing people say that my diet is unhealthy.
I have been doing omad and keto for almost 3 months now plus lifting weights . I know, I have lost weight but I refuse to look at the scale , Last time I weighted myself I was at 250 pounds ( 6feet tall ). My goal is to be at around 170 lb. In addition to this I trained myself to drink one gallon of water a day with some apple cider vinegar. I feel great, with lots of energy and thinking about doing this for possibly the rest of my life. I just turned 40 on the 14th and if I have my say , my body will never ingest another sugar or carb till my time is up here on earth.
Thank you Thomas. I’ve been feeling really cold lately, and your video confirms that I’m fasting too much. It was easy because my body just naturally adjusted but now I know I need to scale back. Thank You 😊
Thanks for these videos!! So informative! You're answering all the questions I've been wondering about.. I've even watched these on repeat! Thank you a ton!
excellent explanation bro...this is where im at the past fortnight...layering the two...fasting and ketosis...losing fat rapidly...feeling great...good energy levels...lots of clarity...calmness...focus...improved restfull sleep duration...and still able to workout...thats on almost no carbs...high fat and also very low protien...feeding windows basically only nuts and seeds...i blend 12 or so different green leafy veg and herbs..half gets bottled and goes in the fridge...half i add home made bone broth...my dogs dinner...and take as hot soup..also home made sourkraut and pickled garlic...etc....on non extended fast windows...that is keto days...i use home cooked coconut oil...and the charred coconut bits that collect at the bottom of the pan...which i refrigerate in a jar...organic raw coconut oil is magic...probably why nearly all the fishing boys on the islands are ripped...now i realise the greens will spike insulin on the feeding window...but its minimal and short lived...and the estrogen busting cruciferous veg...cauliflower...broccoli...cabbage...kale...and others...dont know the names or recognise many...so much available at the market over here in thailand...one thing i will mention...chinese call it ku gua...english... bitter gourd...tough to take raw in a smoothie but ok blended into a hot soup...very bitter...good for raised test levels...course the big benefit to living out here is endless sunshine...no need for d3 supps...in fact ive been able to cut most all the supps out now...jus a good daily multivit and mineral which i use along with sea salt and of course the magic ACV ...coco oil...green tea and filter expresso on extended fasts...which so far havnt gone past 72 hours...dont want to push it...and lose muscle mass...so..again a great and informative presentation brother...many thanks for all the free info...much appreciated...im reaping the benefits...now i understand why the LORD tells us to fast often in the scriptures...something i hadnt been doing until recently on my walk...Amen to that...seek and ye shall find...knock...and the door shall be opened...thanks again brother...your doing great work...Godbless.
Xbitrate I was IF’ing before keto, and it wasn’t actually much different. Like keto, once you overcome the initial discomfort of no food/carbs, you’re body adapts and it gets so much easier. Maybe watch fledge fitness because he’s an IF channel, but he still includes carbs.
I've had a theory i've been wanting to try. When you fast or go into ketosis for a certain period of time, instead of your body becoming insulin resistant, it becomes insulin sensitive, which means your body produces less insulin when you eat. So my theory is that when you are fasting intermittently or in ketosis for an extended period of time, you could get away with a little extra carbs for a while because your body doesn't need as much insulin as it did before. My biggest piece of evidence for this is from my own personal experience. Over the last summer I was in a ketosis for about 3 months. Then one week, we had the annual summer fair. So I and my friends all got together to party and chill and relax. Suffice to say i wasn't in ketosis anymore. My diet included things like fast food, pizza, ice cream, elephant ear, deep fried Oreos for like a week. My exercise stayed the same, my diet was the only thing that changed. When I weighed myself at the end of the week... nothing, no change in weight and I didn't see a change in the mirror!! I'm not saying to binge on carbs or anything, i'm just saying I think your body learns how to properly deal with those extra sugars and carbs.
Jesse Prososki interesting theory.. I suppose your calories, despite being from ‘bad’ foods, must have intuitively remained similar, on top of your fasting and exercise, therefore no weight gain? Plus, sounds like a really fun week so the stress response of fat storage etc. Wasn’t even there. I had the same kinda thing last year, for a couple months my diet was pizza, ice cream, peanut butter, protein powder, and vodka (was a rough time haha) and I still lost weight and I think it was because alcohol apparently puts you in deeper ketosis, hence why the day after I drink I barely want to eat..
I don't know why anyone would want to bring their carbs past 70g unless they are an elite athlete. Even if you want to get out of keto, you should still only consume like 30-70g. You really don't need any more, and your blood tests will be much better than going past 70g. Basically, just eat more plants than you normally would if you want to go out of keto - like basically into primal/paleo.
(not Jason Murray- I am his wife) I have been doing keto and fasting for almost a full year and have lost 55 pounds, built lots of muscle and feel amazing! My autoimmune disorder symptoms have decreased, my skin looks amazing, I have lots of energy to chase around my four kids but I have plateaued. I don't know if I messed up my metabolism by not eating enough during my feasting periods. My appetite has decreased so much that I have to force myself to eat. The only time I am hungry is when I am doing lots of lifting and cardio but then I gain back weight even if I eat well. I have twenty more pounds to drop and have been stalled for three months, gaining and losing the same five pounds. Does keto and IF continue to work past the year mark or do our bodies just adapt to this new lifestyle?
@thomas what is your take on drinking coffee while fasting. I remember in the past you said coffee and ketosis are great together but what about fasting with coffee
So I'm do9ng keto and 16/8 IF every day, should. Are you saying to take breaks from IF? I'm on my fourth day of both atm. I'm a begginer but its not that hard since I'm a trucker otr I don't do much moving around lol
Just a suggestion to all the viewers, it is also beneficial to start a ketogenic diet with a three day water fast or bone broth fast. If you have ever started a diet it and it seems like you are ravenously hungry the first month or longer than this could be a solution. Yes I know a three day fast is hard but you will not have that difficult month if you do it this way. Me personally I would rather it be difficult for the first three days than a month or more. I have started diets and fell off like most people and I can personally tell you that this has been the best way for me to adjust. After the three day fast I begin the keto diet and I am full off of such foods where if I did it the other way I would have a difficult month or so. Well anyways Thomas and viewers your input is appreciated, dialog brings knowledge and knowledge brigs success. Thanks for the videos!
hey mate every time your content and knowledge is inspirational and helpful for us. thnx for the video because i am on my 60hrs fasting now . Using Isagenix cleanse products which really helps me for burn the fat . you are legend mate , keep working hard & stay hustling 🔥
Thomas,, In ketosis now for over a month. I have been intermittent fasting eating only after 3pm and not after 8pm. This video talks about full on fasting. Would like to see how to combine all 3. How often would you do full fasting? Also, what is the effects if I skip dinner if the 1st meal was balanced 75-20-5?
Seems that after 12 hours we start to get the benefits. Valter longo says 12 hours without eat is not fasting... He also says we can do 5 days fasting once a month if you are obese, diabetes etc. I strongly recommend you the longevity diet from Valter longo book
Video Idea: what a full day of eating would look like on a keto fasting diet. (this would be really helpful as I struggle to find the correct foods and amounts)
I've lost 30 lbs doing keto and intermittent fasting as often as possible. I hit a weight loss stall. I was wondering if I should lower caloric intake more, lower my fats and up my protien a bit, or cut back on the fasting? Which would elicit the best response to resume fat loss and lower my weight?
highflyer131 not an expert or anything, but you could start changing your macros to the point where you are eating a lot more fat (85%) than protein(10)and carbs(5). Im currently at 10% body fat without calorie restriction and i did it this way. Just try to take 1g of protein per kg of *lean* mass and fill the rest with fats. I wish you luck with overcoming it
Yea definitely don’t lower your calories too much, that’ll change your metabolism in a relatively short amount of time. If you’re not either weight training or getting in cardio 4-5 days a week, start there before you change up your Keto diet, unless you up fats and drop carbs a little more. Good luck
Jordan Magrini my problem is between two small children and a crazy work schedule I can't get in the gym 4-5x a week at this point. Hopefully when my wife finishes the school year as a teacher I can up my training and kick things into overdrive.💪💪💪💪
highflyer131 yea I hear ya. I have a 6 and 2 year old girls and a 3 month old beagle. I work 2 jobs and my wife works full time. I gave up on the gym but I either spend a half hour of “free time” on our spin bike, swimming laps in my pool, or jogging around the neighborhood. I know it’s hard, but if you can fit it in it’ll catapult you past your stall :)
I tried to do the keto diet but after a week I couldn't deal with it.. I got headaches, felt nauseous when eating certain things and had like no energy when going to the gym.. Is that normal?
Yes, that is normal in the first 2-3 weeks as you transition your body into ketosis. It's refered to as the keto flu. Thomas has done videos on that too, look them up.
you need electroylytes. Look it up. During the transition to becoming fully fat adapted you need to keep your electrolytes up since the loss of water weight will be massive in the beginning. Good luck.
Eat more veggies :). A lot more. Basically, what you are describing sounds like mineral deficiency (sodim, potassium, magnesium) etc. Usually hardstyle ketogenic diet proponents don't eat enough leafy greens and veggies in general because they consider them as carbs. Try eating veggies of different colours (the most important one beeing green) raw and cooked in an unlimited amount. Don't count them as carbs. The probability that greens spike your insuline in a significant way is close to zero. And then, when you are not eating, try to drink water with lemon juice, salt and apple cider vinager from time to time. And see how you feel. That should help you replenish your minerals tank.
I've been doing this ketosis and fasting thing and I CAN'T POOP ANYMORE!!! I thought fiber was supposed to help. Do a video about pooping or something gees!
Here's a specific question for you : If I decide to do the idea of whole day fast as you suggest in this video, what should be my eating window in the adjacent two days of ketosis. Day 1 - 8 hour eating window from 12:00 till 20:00 then fast from Day 1 20:00 - Day 2 - Day 3 12:00 ? - This would rake me up 40 hours of fasted state in the 3 days. Or should I not overdo the fasting window and therefore eat the whole day through on Day 1 and Day 3 without a controlled feeding window ?
Great information! I've been going IF for 5. months with eating LCHF definitely seeing results. I love this lifestyle it's very sustainable for me. Keep doing what your doing!
I personally would love to see more about what to eat while combining ketosis with intermittent fasting (IF). I have been doing keto for about 2 months and have lost weight and feel amazing mentally. Your channel and content have inspired me to incorporate IF into my keto lifestyle, so would love to see more about food ideas while combining the two.
so just to see if I got it right, it's okay to be on a ketogenic diet and doing intermittent fasting at the same time? like, fast 16h, then eat fats and protein in the 8 hour window? or did I miss the point?
Could you talk about weight loss for menopausal women in terms of hormonal influences ? its challenging and I would love to understand why im not losing weight while on keto ? Im 1.69 cm / 68 kgs . Very grateful I found your channel , top notch information and presentation !
Dr Eric Berg better stay on his toes ... Thomas is doing his thing ... I like them both honestly, but yea I rather follow the hott and in shape guy ... his body shows results .... dr berg is the man though ..
I was so confused so I went ahead and bought two identical dogs, so what do I do next??
That's it. You've won ketosis

So what's the update??
I just started my low carb journey yesterday.
Just water weight
❤️❤️❤️
@@terrancelittle3652 Better than no weight. lol
Have you stuck with it?
Fasting right now. Released 16lbs in 5 days lord I have sooo much weight to release. Good info
Hey Thomas. Thanks for the videos. Im down 66lbs so far!
Colt Kindall that's awesome! Thank you for tuning in!!
How bro? Tell me.
Colt Kindall how's it going?
Colt Kindall congrats . I am down 45 lbs as well
Im barely down 6.8 lbs 😪...but I barely started 10 days ago😄
2022 and we still out here listening and learning, thank you sir -you are appreciated.
Fasting in all reality can become an enjoyable thing to do!
Nothing tastes as good as healthy feels!
amen to that bro...gettin fit is fun right...
MsNootchanat nothing tastes as good as healthy feels.
Definitely agree!!!!
I love your videos!! My abs are starting to show up after only 4 months of listening to you and applying what I hear to my life.
I have been doing 8/16 intermittent fasting for about 2 months. A month ago I added in Keto 60-70 fat,
Great video.
I am combining intermittent fasting & the keto lifestyle & I don't eat any sweets except whatever natural sugars that may come
from some veggies & working out which has always been a part of my lifestyle & I am definitely seeing results ... After weightlifting for years I am finally seeing the results I want.
Finally, what I wanted to hear.
I’ve listened to your channel for 3 months, 3 months into Keto, 1 month into fasting 2x a week.
More content is very welcome on this subject, with topics that combine breaking the fast properly at the right time with respect to workouts ( cardio vs. weight training )
I know there are two videos like that but something that ties in with this and those two videos.
Just finished 48hrs fast. Gotta say I feel good, muscles sliightly more toned and definitively could notice my brain working faster but daaaaaaamn it feels good slurping down some bone broth and devouring everything within reach afterwards.
I used to do a 22:2 fast back in College. Felt great. Might have to get back into it
*Your explanation of their synergy is so clear and compelling. Thanks for showing us the incredible benefits of using them together!*

Thomas, give us a schedule of what hours you fast, what hours you eat, how many days do you fast, and what foods do you eat and avoid for ketosis?
the thing I've found out about fats is that unless they are mixed with Carbs, there isn't a ton of variation in food, but there is variation in "breed".
Jesse Prososki
Very good information and points.
Thank you so much for changing my life
IF seems to be easy for me due to the fact I’ve never been a morning eater Just don’t take my coffee away!
people eat all day because they are eating addictive foods like sugar and bread which can make you hungry all the time
Black coffee is fine, it won’t break your ketosis, just don’t add sugar and creamer
Dam starch/carbs are so addictive, it's harder to quit that than heroin😛
🎶A spoon full of butter takes the cravings away🎶 in the most delightful way.
you been on heroin?
Take a deep breath! You can mess up with carbs and just start over
Is this a good meal plan for keto and intermittent fasting
Morning:apple cider vinegar with lemon and cinnamon and himalayan pink salt
Black coffee or green tea
First meal 4pm:3 cups salad with 2tsb olive oil 1tsb nutrional yeast and 5 pecans
Last mead 7.30pm: 2 cups salad fatty protein 5oz asparagus with butter
Is 16:8 safe for daily use? I’ve been doing it the last 4 months with 2-24 hr fasts. I’ve learned so much about my appetite and hunger cues! A rumbling belly doesn’t always mean I’m hungry!
What else does a rumbling belly mean, to you?
Taylor not necessarily hungry
I started intermittent fasting 3 weeks and love it . Today I started Keto along with IF. Would love a video with both used together and results
Ditto - I too would like advice on what I can eat after a fasting period that enables me to transition back to Keto Thomas. Your guidance is appreciated. Thanks.
I’m going to do Ramadhan fasting soon...glad i find this video.
That’s for spirit building
I thoroughly enjoyed this video! New to Keto diet. Typically from Monday to Friday I do not eat till noon and supper about 8 pm. Try to eat 3 times on weekends. Will try eating 3 times on Wednesdays so I am being more intermittent with fasting. Looking forward to watching your other videos!
Would you recommend having a keto meal after a 16 hour fast to stay in ketosis longer if I'm
going to stay on a regular non-keto diet otherwise?
@Spongebob Schwanzkopf Small dick rage
@Der Fiend-lol Who rattled his cage? Guess the keto didn't work out too well for him.
I found this out on my own, low carb dieting and low quantity of food (the food you do eat is low carb) the weight can fly off.
M-F OMAD and ketosis, what should the meals consist of and in what quantities. Golden video idea.
Great video as always. I also wanted to know if 16/8 or similar, combined with keto is beneficial, or using full 24hr fasts here and there?
I do IF Monday through Thursday and also a ketogenic diet. It has worked very very well
I’ve been doing 20:4/OMAD fasting for over a month and I feel great. Lost 15+ lbs so far. I’ve been trying to switch over to ketogenic diet too, although that has been a little harder.
Charles Bronson Have you tried carb cycling?? If jumping right over to a ketogenic diet is too tough, ease your way into it with carb cycling 👍🏽
do you get tired/really sleepy after eating? I am on OMAD, and eating a surplus for muscle growth. 2500cals in one sitting was more than doable but the lethargy that follows...
Bevin Castro I haven’t. I’ll look into it though, thanks!
Thank you!
Maybe talk more about extended fasts as a healing tool.
Is there a benefit to fasting 24 hours 2 to 3 days a week vs just doing a 16/8 fast every day with ketosis?
Thanks!
I've had a hard time liking the idea of fasting. This is the first video that gave me a good reason to do it during keto.
Sugar and carbs are harder to take away than anything I’ve had in my life, and I’ve done a lot of things.
8 years clean 21 clean of sugar addiction!
arkel bridgewater - 👍Congratulations. 💝 Food addiction kills many people every year. 😔
MySSDRocks - 👍I agree. 😔
Can you make a video about the keto diet on hypothyroid and what to avoid and what eat? Please.
I’m still trying to get the balance between Ketosis and intermittent fasting for health/body repair and muscle gain. Is it best to do intermittent fasting everyday while following a Ketogenic diet and have a day or maybe two of total fasting?
Thank you for putting these two together & showing us how to turn the fat burning switch on!
Sherry Miller thank you for watching!
Thomas,,,Great vid,,,,44+ weeks in im on Keto,ADF,waterfast,,,,,,,, my protocol is waterfast Sat,Sun,,,,,sun break fast at 4pm,,,,,,, Mon,We'd,Fri 2 keto meals,,,,Tues,Thurs one meal at 4pm an omelette,,,,,,,,so 9 meals in a week,,,,,,,,the day prior to fast I have a cheat meal,,,,,,,,,,waterfast gets us into Keto fast,,,,,,,Thanks for your great vids,,,lived your collaborators with Dr Berg,,,,
Irfan Khan love this!
You should fast from commas
hi irfan. how are your results coming along
I think fasting means no calories but not sure about liquid calories.
I read no carbs or protein fat is fine
karli p black coffee only
Liked for the dogs, stayed for the info, subbed for being informative and to the point
Steven Perry yes, I need this cleared up too. Having a rice cake while on keto seems blasphemous
Any ideas on this
I really hope this gets answered because it is exactually what I am looking for to a T
Steven Perry beef bone broth for breaking a fast while staying keto
When I was 16 I weighed 285 pounds. I cut out carbs started living in a ketosis. I’m 27 now and weigh 185 pounds as strong as an ox and sick of hearing people say that my diet is unhealthy.
How long should you fast for on those 3 day? 16:8? 20:4 24hr fast?
Booty God 18:6 to 20:4, most beneficial effects of fasting start 18 hours in.
Most knowledgeable person on RUclips I have succeeded because of you thank u down 20 pounds and couldn’t have done it without you ! ❤️
I fast every day. Love it
I have been doing omad and keto for almost 3 months now plus lifting weights .
24th day keto/omad
5th day no diet cola
Great video! I just lost 60 lbs on Keto and intermittent fasting.
Tomorrow I start my Keto and intermittent fasting journey 🤣
Thomas we need help on eliminating our love-handles/muffintops 😂 seriously!
Thank you Thomas. I’ve been feeling really cold lately, and your video confirms that I’m fasting too much. It was easy because my body just naturally adjusted but now I know I need to scale back. Thank You 😊
Rosalind Alexander "I need to scale back", isn't that the point? :P
2:35 for IF and Keotisis together
Thanks for these videos!! So informative! You're answering all the questions I've been wondering about.. I've even watched these on repeat! Thank you a ton!
Thomas.... I love how you say it tastes like lawn mower clippings!!
excellent explanation bro...this is where im at the past fortnight...layering the two...fasting and ketosis...losing fat rapidly...feeling great...good energy levels...lots of clarity...calmness...focus...improved restfull sleep duration...and still able to workout...thats on almost no carbs...high fat and also very low protien...feeding windows basically only nuts and seeds...i blend 12 or so different green leafy veg and herbs..half gets bottled and goes in the fridge...half i add home made bone broth...my dogs dinner...and take as hot soup..also home made sourkraut and pickled garlic...etc....on non extended fast windows...that is keto days...i use home cooked coconut oil...and the charred coconut bits that collect at the bottom of the pan...which i refrigerate in a jar...organic raw coconut oil is magic...probably why nearly all the fishing boys on the islands are ripped...now i realise the greens will spike insulin on the feeding window...but its minimal and short lived...and the estrogen busting cruciferous veg...cauliflower...broccoli...cabbage...kale...and others...dont know the names or recognise many...so much available at the market over here in thailand...one thing i will mention...chinese call it ku gua...english... bitter gourd...tough to take raw in a smoothie but ok blended into a hot soup...very bitter...good for raised test levels...course the big benefit to living out here is endless sunshine...no need for d3 supps...in fact ive been able to cut most all the supps out now...jus a good daily multivit and mineral which i use along with sea salt and of course the magic ACV ...coco oil...green tea and filter expresso on extended fasts...which so far havnt gone past 72 hours...dont want to push it...and lose muscle mass...so..again a great and informative presentation brother...many thanks for all the free info...much appreciated...im reaping the benefits...now i understand why the LORD tells us to fast often in the scriptures...something i hadnt been doing until recently on my walk...Amen to that...seek and ye shall find...knock...and the door shall be opened...thanks again brother...your doing great work...Godbless.
Video Idea: Life after Keto... Once one becomes keto-adapted, how does your body deal with carbs in the context of fasting and OMAD but without keto.
I get SUPER diarrhea when i eat anything with gluten after not eating for while. lol
Thanks for always delivering high quality science based content. You make complex topics easy to understand. Thanks Thomas and keep it up man!!
when fasting do you fast for 24 hours or just 16-17 like you normally would?
24 MY G. Go all in, don't be a pussy :D
Darkcloud1983 many people agree that coffee does not affect your fast, as it has no calories for your body to use instead of your body fat!
Thomas recommends drinking coffee without cream while fasting. He has a video in which he describes the science behind it.
Jonathan Strange thanks bro. I tried looking for one with him explaining it
Your stomach still has to metabolize it. It stops your fast. Period.
Artie Wolf no
Love this video explaining both intermittent fasting and keto.
Using Isagenix cleanse products which really helps me for burn the fat . you are legend mate , keep working hard & stay hustling 🔥
god that English makes ur comment so entertaining lol
Thomas,, In ketosis now for over a month. I have been intermittent fasting eating only after 3pm and not after 8pm. This video talks about full on fasting. Would like to see how to combine all 3. How often would you do full fasting? Also, what is the effects if I skip dinner if the 1st meal was balanced 75-20-5?
Fasting- how many hours should we truly fast to get the maximum benefit?
Charlie Jean check out fledge fitness channel. IMO he’s the go to IF guy.
Seems that after 12 hours we start to get the benefits. Valter longo says 12 hours without eat is not fasting... He also says we can do 5 days fasting once a month if you are obese, diabetes etc. I strongly recommend you the longevity diet from Valter longo book
The benefits of IF starting hour15-16. So minimum 16.
Mar J that’s plus whenever you’re sleeping too
Kabuto , that's right 😁
Video Idea: what a full day of eating would look like on a keto fasting diet.
I wish you luck with overcoming it
Aleksandar Zaki thanks. I'm a little lower in the fats area than you recommend right now. I'll give it a try and see what happens.
Thanks for mentioning the cold hands and feet. I get that once in a while and wondered if it was connected to the lifestyle.
That is the transition from glucose to ketones that your body is experiencing
you need electroylytes.
They typically call that the keto blues. Its a big deterrent for people looking to start ketosis. Once you get passed it, its off to the races!
Hi I m from India. Your videos helping me a lot. Thank you
I've been doing this ketosis and fasting thing and I CAN'T POOP ANYMORE!!! I thought fiber was supposed to help. Do a video about pooping or something gees!
Check out Dr. Berg, I think he's mentioned constipation a few times.
Eat Chia seeds and psyllium husk
I'm not a doctor, but I've seen studies that say fiber actually does more to clog you up than a pure carnivore diet will. Hope you're doing well.
Ask a chiropractor why you can't poop ... haha.
Magnesium
Here's a specific question for you : If I decide to do the idea of whole day fast as you suggest in this video, what should be my eating window in the adjacent two days of ketosis. Day 1 - 8 hour eating window from 12:00 till 20:00 then fast from Day 1 20:00 - Day 2 - Day 3 12:00 ? - This would rake me up 40 hours of fasted state in the 3 days. Or should I not overdo the fasting window and therefore eat the whole day through on Day 1 and Day 3 without a controlled feeding window ?
Intermittent fasting with Keto😍👊💪
Great information! I've been going IF for 5. months with eating LCHF definitely seeing results. I love this lifestyle it's very sustainable for me. Keep doing what your doing!
Ive lost 25 pounds in three weeks from 230 to 205 ketosis and 20 hour fasts
So it means you have a 4 hour eating window..so do u have 1 meal in that or 2 ?
Are you fasting everyday??
C J did u exercised as well?
@@fahadgedi488 Just weights for the first few weeks until progress stalls
Were you working out or at a caloric deficit?
I personally would love to see more about what to eat while combining ketosis with intermittent fasting (IF).
I have been doing keto for about 2 months and have lost weight and feel amazing mentally. Your channel and content have inspired me to incorporate IF into my keto lifestyle, so would love to see more about food ideas while combining the two.
so just to see if I got it right, it's okay to be on a ketogenic diet and doing intermittent fasting at the same time? like, fast 16h, then eat fats and protein in the 8 hour window? or did I miss the point?
Mihael Peras yes it is exactly what you should do...l do omad and keto and things are going great. Losing just fine :)
Thanks for the reply you answered my question too..
RoyalDuo TV lt was my pleasure ;)
Could you talk about weight loss for menopausal women in terms of hormonal influences ? its challenging and I would love to understand why im not losing weight while on keto ? Im 1.69 cm / 68 kgs . Very grateful I found your channel , top notch information and presentation !
Those dogs looks so nice. What kind of dogs are those ?

How do you maintain your nutrient level while fasting. What do drink to maintain energy during this time with out getting foggy and low energy?
Coffee
Dr Eric Berg better stay on his toes ... Thomas is doing his thing ... I like them both honestly, but yea I rather follow the hott and in shape guy ... his body shows results .... dr berg is the man though ..
Great video, thank you !
a_a_ron923 thank you for watching!
