Nursing home costs range from about $150,000 to over $300,000 a year. It has bankrupt many families. Medicaid does cover it, but the person that's under Medicaid has to be completely destitute and relinquish all her assets . There are State programs in some states that cover long-term care, but again you have to be destitute.Also like A.L.T.E.C.S state program in Arizona they take almost all of the parent social security money and leave them with less than $100 a month.The person has to be dirt, poor and destitute. The only home care that is covered under Medicare is temporary for several weeks. I know because I had my mom under that care system and eventually you have to put your parent/parents in a nursing home which is not covered by Medicare.
