I love the blind tastings of a hard to find whiskey vs a comparable findable one. I think you guys have struck a cord with that ... and your authenticity is appreciated.
So odd that in Ontario, Weller 107 is a dime a dozen at $36 Canadian, over 3000 bottles were available a few weeks ago (I bought a case) and now about 100 left, MM CS was never available in Canada and requires a trip across the border or someone to mule it up. I do have a MM CS and like it a hair better than the OWA. Great video and becoming my favorite channel.
Another really fun show to watch, thanks for the excellent content. Have to say in my market on the left coast 45th parallel you can find Marker all day any day, the Weller harder to find than Sasquatch! So guess which one I drink more often. Thanks again great way to start my Saturday.
Another Friday night another Bourbon Guild Blind Tasting! Dutch, you are suspect after nailing the blind tasting. Ben, the look on your face was priceless. I will have to revisit the 375 I have have of the Maker's Cask Strength and compare to the handle of 107 and a 107 store pick, all blind of course! Thanks guys for another great episode!
I almost picked Maker's CS up yesterday and decided against. Bad decision! This tasting was timely and heading back to the packie tomorrow. Thanks again guys - always love the reviews! Continually helpful
you ever grab any of the private selects? the one cask strength that i grabbed had the hardcore wheat funk, but the latest private select i had is marvelous.
I just bought a bottle of Maker's CS, haven't opened it yet. Was sitting here with my fingers crossed like "come on come one come on!" Thanks for the vid/review fellas!
Are you guys challenged more by thinking you know which is which or just enjoying the bourbon and arguing amongst each other why you like it? I think you should do the blind challenge totally blind not knowing what's in the glass until after you pick your favorite. Then the pourer discloses what the bottles are and then, you try to guess which glass has what bourbon. And try KC SB 120 vs Russell's Reserve SB. Love the channel...
Great BLIND tasting and discussion. And even better "WTF" reaction from The Butcher!! I just can't stand those glass "Tervis Tumblers"= they look even more strange compared to the knock off ones we have. Hope to see more of these blind battles. Cheers!
OK, you guys got my taste buds going crazy and I had to go out and get my very own cask strength bottle. Got a batch # 2018-01 and I'm now reveling in bourbony deliciousness! Yummmmmmm
Great blind tasting! I like them both too. I’m sure I’d prefer one of the Weller Antique Barrel pick bottles that I have over Maker’s Cask Strength, but I’d probably also choose Maker’s Cask Strength over regular Weller Antique. You should try to find a bottle of Maker’s Private Selection if you want to see how good Maker’s can really be.
$35?!?! I'm in Denver and we tend to have some great juice prices. But Maker's Cask is $48.99 at the big store where they sell wine and more, $55 and up elsewhere. I regrettably paid $30 or $35 for a 375ml somewhere else because I was afraid I wouldn't like it...only a few days before this video came out lol. Of course it turned out that I really like it. If I swish/chew it then wash it straight down the middle of my tongue and really hit the rear middle, by the tonsils, then I get this delicious and powerfully rich cherry sweetness that I can't recall getting from any other whiskey. I think I'll actually buy 46 next though, it's only $27. Have you all considered doing a video on Total's store pick? That would be great since, even though it's a store pick, it's widely available. $66 for that one over here.
Dillion looks Anxious and he always goes cask strength! Ben always is positive which is which! It’s so hilarious when they guess because someone is dead wrong! Dutch is right on the blinds most of the time...excellent job fellas.
Good to know! l still haven't tried Makers Cask Strength, but been wanting to try it. I can't justify the 50+ price tag, around these parts, for Makers. Antique 107 can be found for around 40 *when you can find it. Another point is that both of those bottles looked to have been open for some time; vs trying both of these freshly opened will be a different experience.
WL 107 and SR come in maybe once a week at only a select few places ..and are usually gone by the end of the day. You would be lucky to get it the following day. Wouldn't say "regularly" available. Makers Cask is always on the shelves though.
Picked up a bottle of Makers CS due to your review tasted side by side with my bottle of 107... The Makers got my vote and you can buy it everywhere in south Texas $48... thank you sir may I have another!
Ok, so my friends and I tried this with a slight twist. We added in Rebel Yell 10 year (RY10) against Weller 107 and Makers Mark Cask Strength (MMCS). All are high proof, wheater bourbons so we felt the RY10 would be comparable. Two of the three picked Weller 107 as favorite, with RY10 second and MMCS last. Only the last guy picked MMCS as favorite. I'm proud to say I guessed them all correctly but I sort of cheated and had sampled two of them the day before. Ultimately, all were good but the MMCS is readily available and inexpensive, whereas the other two are VERY hard to get and more costly. Thanks for the idea and keep the videos coming. Salute o7
Exactly Maker's Mark Cask Strength wins this for me hands down. It isn't even a contest because it is so readily available. One store by me tells me they have Weller 107 at a great price. I say how much. The seller says $70 each. So Maker's Mark Cask Strength all day.
Awesome!! Almost 100% of the time I've had whiskey (I've tried about 80 different whiskeys), I've done it via a blind taste test between at least 2 different whiskeys -- even at home, when drinking from my own collection, I do this (get my girlfriend to pour them) :-) It's a lot of fun. I also slightly prefer Makers 46 and Makers Cask over Weller SR, Weller 107, and even Pappy 25!! Makers 46 is my fav! Can y'all try Rock Hill Farms vs Pappy vs Buffalo Trace or Henry Mckenna?
Nice video again, Makers is on my shelf too and I think it won't be closed for long. Unfortunately prices for some good bourbons go apeshitcrazy at the moment in Germany, so I think I have to find alternatives for e.g. my beloved Blantons Gold and bookers. The Makers will be different of course being a weater, but I'm curious wether its the same class. Thx for the "expertise" xD No really, many things you said in other rewiews, I see quite similar, especially Dylan, but you're all quite convincing. Ah yes, I hate those glasses :( The Glencairne are perfect! Nosing cant be the same. But anyway, i look forward to the next video. Keep doing what you're doing ;)
hey, at least you can get Blanton's Gold! Obviously the market here in the states is much bigger overall (for bourbon), but oh boy would i like to get my hands on some of that Gold...
dutch- no nose but the taste buds kick in - nose blind but the body compensates jules is numb to anything but the finish...always dillon-very astute but he looks for specifics ben- well rounded but his ego gets in the way i wish you guys didnt stop i just found ya and been binge watching like its a old netflix classic a couple months ago
I love the idea of having measuring marks on the glass. Though not an ideal shape, a chemistry beaker is an option too. BTW, Weller 107, though not so readily available in Japan, can be found for about $25.
I was lucky and stumbled across a bottle of Weller 107 yesterday, which is almost impossible to find here in Maryland; price was $59. I have a bottle of MM Cask Strength, so now I'll have to try a blind comparison myself.
Okay, I tried them both yesterday, blind, and I preferred the Weller. For me it came down to the smoothness - Weller is a very easy drinker. I initially liked the MM nose better, but as the Weller rested in the glass for awhile, its nose improved. As you guys noted, the flavor profiles are very similar, but I thought the Weller was just a bit richer. So it's Weller 107 for me. Which, to be honest, is a little disappointing because I'll probably never find another bottle! :)
Guess I’ll switch to Maker’s and stop chasing Weller. Now I need you to blind Weller 12 vs whatever is comparable so I can get whatever stands up to 12 year
Great review guys! One thing to mention, MSRP of MM is $50-70 in my area. If i walk into a store and they're charging $70 for W107 I'm pissed that they're price gouging. So who is worse MM or the store for charging what the market will bear? Should Weller be a $70 whiskey? Cheers!
Bias comes into play here... Brand knowledge, or brand familiarity, or brand loyalty, can all be influential in deciding on which juice is the tastiest... A real blind challenge would be for your producer or film set staff member set up the blind challenge, you smell and taste, then decide for your self which one you prefer and explain why... That would truly be the blind challenge with integrity... As far as what bourbons to be in the challenge, you all could put in a "pool of bottles", maybe one or two or three, to be possible contenders... but only your producer or staff member gets to pick the two, (possibly three???) candidates for the blind tasting... Take the bias out of this, make it a real challenge.....Cheers....
As an “astute viewer” hahaha: assess/add the value portion of your score until you know what the bottle is (ie at the end), and only grade uniqueness on flavor profile compared to market and you can do both blind tasting videos and head-to-heads in one.
Awesome!!! Didn't you guys shit all over Makers CS when you did a live review??? Yes. There were a few 6.5s on the MM CS and for weller 107 it was 8.5s and a 9 from Dylan!!! Ouch! Do you guys now understand what I have been saying about the power of brand and price? Even if you picked the Weller (which you didn't) you guys all admitted it was "razor thin". And even Dylan picked this over Weller and he used to think Weller was better than a BJ. Keep up the good work its eye opening!!!
So, I found some bottles of Antique 107 at the bottle shop by my house. $149.99. I said I'm not paying that much for a $25 bottle. He gave a speech and I said no thanks, I'll just wait until a box store gets it. As I'm leaving, he stops me and tells me he'll give it to me for 89.99. Is it worth the mark up?
Miss you guys
Just found you guys. These blind challenges will keep me coming back. Keep up the good work.
I love the blind tastings of a hard to find whiskey vs a comparable findable one. I think you guys have struck a cord with that ... and your authenticity is appreciated.
Love seeing this result since I haven't seen Weller in NC in years
Mind. Blown! The Weller Antique is just phenomenal to me. Guess the Makers will be my next purchase.
I’ve never been much of wheat bourbons, but after trying makers 46, and this. I’m sold
These are so fun to watch. I work at a state controlled liquor store and I find your videos very helpful!
Inspired by your episode, we replicated your blind tasting on this wonderful Friday night. 2 out of 3 of us chose the Makers! Cheers!
Awesome! Cheers!
Great episode. I tried it blind. Damn it, picked Makers when I thought it was Weller. Cheers.
Blind taste tests are a delight. you guys are great. Would love to see some Elijah Craig Barrel Proof reviews
Great video again! Ben's Spatula City shirt is freaking awesome!
So odd that in Ontario, Weller 107 is a dime a dozen at $36 Canadian, over 3000 bottles were available a few weeks ago (I bought a case) and now about 100 left, MM CS was never available in Canada and requires a trip across the border or someone to mule it up.

Maker’s Cask Strength kicks some ass. Love the battle! Cheers 🥃
I almost picked Maker's CS up yesterday and decided against. Bad decision! This tasting was timely and heading back to the packie tomorrow. Thanks again guys - always love the reviews! Continually helpful
You’ve come to the correct conclusion, Guild. Makers Cask is one of the best bourbons on the shelf. Especially at availability and price.
you ever grab any of the private selects? the one cask strength that i grabbed had the hardcore wheat funk, but the latest private select i had is marvelous.
I just bought a bottle of Maker's CS, haven't opened it yet. Was sitting here with my fingers crossed like "come on come one come on!" Thanks for the vid/review fellas!

Such a great cross section of #Merica. Great to have all of these professional, seasoned opinions.
Great blind tasting! I like them both too. Absolutely agree, love both but the private SB selections of Weller 107 are at the top of my list out of anything I’ve tried
the butcher's slow mind blow = gold
Loving the content guys, you 4 make a good dynamic!
Thanks!
Ssshhhhh before Maker's Mark Cask Strength flies off the shelves and turns into another unicorn to get... thanks guys argh. :-) Cheers
I don't think anyone cares what these guys think
This was an amazing episode guys! I will definitely add cask strength to my bar.... I love 46 so maybe it's time to take it up a notch 🙂
Holy shit!!! great video i will no long be pissed off when i can't get wellers
$35?!?! I'm in Denver and we tend to have some great juice prices. But Maker's Cask is $48.99 at the big store where they sell wine and more, $55 and up elsewhere. Another great video testing
This format is so much better than the new one.
Makers is $50 around me with OWA around $80-120 in San Diego, you know what I’m reaching for next...
Good to know! l still haven't tried Makers Cask Strength, but been wanting to try it. I can't justify the 50+ price tag, around these parts, for Makers. I love the idea of having measuring marks on the glass. Though not an ideal shape, a chemistry beaker is an option too. BTW, Weller 107, though not so readily available in Japan, can be found for about $25.
WTF is "Wheater Funk"? Can you break that down a little bit?
Sucks because I cannot find 107 in Texas

Marketing is a hell of a drug...
Goes to show how our biases affect what we taste
First... Makers is going win...isn't it
Thought so
Mad keytar montage music
I would like to hear your rating of Wild Turkey 101.
Great review guys! One thing to mention, MSRP of MM is $50-70 in my area. If i walk into a store and they're charging $70 for W107 I'm pissed that they're price gouging. So who is worse MM or the store for charging what the market will bear? Should Weller be a $70 whiskey? Cheers!
Makers is just a good maker/manufacturer.

Can you guys please count how many blind review Dillion says Apples & Oranges? 😜
Blind taste mineral water vs distilled water.
YUS.

Never tried this blind test, but both times I had makers mark cask strength, there was a sour component which threw me off. Prefer OWA all day.
Where u m fers at! Lol

After watching a few of these episodes, it seems like the guy on the left is the only one who actually knows anything.
Not a fan of the stripey glasses.
Same. Looks like a kids sippy cup.
@@newmennium They didn't clink very well either.
@@newmennium EXACTLY! They look like they should have a straw included!!
Surprised me how much that changed it, I missed the pointing and tinking of Glencairn glasses :P Surprisingly important part of The Bourbon Guild.

Makers 46 and cask strength both better than Weller!

Sipping whiskey from scientific beakers is weird. You need to be wearing white lab coats.
