Thanks Guys for making Friday nights bourbon nights. I recently picked up an Old Fitzgerald 13 year Bottled in Bond thanks to my lovely wife. Jules, you were great this episode. Dutch, you poured so much more for yourself, maybe you had too much? The Wheater Brothers were a nice touch, but I miss Mr Dillon. We want the Frunk, Gives us the Frunk! Bring back the blind tasting please. Great job everyone, my wife now enjoys watching these with me. Till next week.
Fitz used to live on the property and had a key to the rickhouses. He would sample at night and find the best barrrels. That's what they named Larceny after and where the little key on the Larceny label comes from.
Loved the review of this one. I'm think'n in the Bourbon desert where I live, it's not in my future to much $ not enough reasons to merit it. As a fan of the Blues Brothers I doff my chapeau and my dark thick rimed sunglasses to you! Oh and yes, I tossed the cigarette lighter out the window.
Just came from the liquor store where they had so many hard to find bourbons but I don’t have those Bourbon Guild monies.... had to settle on Weller 107 store pick.
DJ Beacon unfortunately the demand here is so great they don’t even put it on the shelf and it got marked up. Hoping Total Wine gets some handles at some point. Ha
Entertaining episode, guys; almost as great as the infamous George T Stagg episode. I had this at a bar recently and was quite underwhelmed as well. Good score considering the periphery factors.
Great review fellas! I’ve spotted one bottle at $160, I couldn’t do it. I bought an ECBP A119 for $65. I’d love to grab a bottle at MSRP but I’m not holding my breath. Cheers!🥃👍
@@justiny328 Spot on observation but that's what makes Bourbon such a great spirit, there is a flavor profile out there to fit anyone's palate. My day to day go to is brown wrapper Buffalo Trace. So we should all get out there and expose ourselves to as many different Bourbons as we can. Find our personal Bourbon sweet spot.
And the academy goes to.......love that bottle definitely top shelf look , I’ll have to keep my eyes open for it And Ben didn’t you say something like friend or foe about larceny???
Thanks for the review guys! I have a question, maybe someone can help me out. How is, that you are only allowed to put bourbon into the cask at max 125 proof, but my Stagg jr is 130? The big brother is at 144. And, as far as I know, proof goes down over time. I'm confused :) cheers
Proof can go up or down over time. Depending on temperature and pressure fluctuations sometimes more alcohol is absorbed or evaporates, and sometimes more water is.
Hey, guys, I have the 11YR from last year - nice! But, the way you are talking makes me think that the 'TM' above the Frunk stands for 'Too Much' Frunk! Now, come one, you all know that this is merely Larceny at a higher proof and a BIB at a higher price, and in a fancy decanter - probably not crystal. After all, you know that Larceny was named after JEF, when as a govt. agent, who as the keeper of the keys, used to help himself to the good stuff. Lore is great, but bourbon is better! Cheers! I really enjoy your channel. Cliff - Atlanta
Hey Guys! This is my first time watching one of your videos and I must say you guys do an awesome job with your review style! I really like the different viewpoints! Subscribed!
regarding Dillon's reference to the Buffalo Trace Distillery wheaters - what do you all prefer: this OFitz or, say, Weller 12? I found another bottle of W12 yesterday here in ATL from a 'not going to rob you @ $150' shop. However, it was $95 - and well worth it! Cliff
You hit the nail on the head. I went through two bottles of Old Fitz BiB before HH discontinued it. It was aggressively mediocre and I don't miss it one bit. I wouldn't be surprised if the longer-aged Old Fitz BiB were revealed in a blind taste test to be unspectacular. In fact, my money would be on Larceny. If you included Rebel Yell Single Barrel (10 yr, 50% ABV, $60), Larceny would come in second.... ;-) I went off the hunt for special releases after getting a bottle of Old Forester Birthday Bourbon in 2016. I had gotten in the line outside before dawn, finally gotten inside to get my bottle, and was waiting in line to pay when I looked over at the whiskey section and realized there were 10's of whiskeys sitting over on the shelf RIGHT NOW WITH NO WAITING that were as good or much better than this OF BB was going to be. Paying crazy amounts over the MSRP makes you part of the problem. Consider telling the manager you'll never buy there again if he gouges you; he'll lose much more in the long run than he'd gain on one bottle. I've stopped patronizing the stores that gouge. First-come, first served at near MSRP? Why yes, I'll be back. I realize the Bourbon Guild has a channel/business to run, so you have to do what you have to do to create content. But that may be worse because you're telling everyone that you paid $70 over MSRP, and yet, even though this whiskey scores less than, say, Maker's Mark Cask Strength (a wheater I paid $35 for in Texas last month; I know it goes for more most elsewhere), you STILL think it would be worth buying at $90. I love this channel and LISTENING to you evaluate the whiskeys is gold, but your scoring system is useless. At least, the single, average score is. While I love a beautiful bottle, giving it points always seems irrelevant to me. If you want a fancy, beautiful bottle, there are 50 craft whiskeys that will oblige you with amazing bottles filled with shitty whiskey (though small distiller whiskey is getting better each year).
I don't like that I buried my admiration for this channel in the middle of a rant. Bourbon Guild is certainly a top 5 whiskey RUclips channel for me. All four guys are smart and articulate about what they're experiencing and they all work hard to avoid tangents, keeping the videos tight and interesting. Special shout out to Dutch for, in general, keeping things real. Keep up the great work guys.
Most of what you're describing is an issue for privatized liquor sales from smaller businesses. One benefit of state-run liquor is uniform prices across the state and no price gouging, but of course there are many more downsides lol. The main being the selection isn't as good as what I've seen in KY or SC for example. But it is interesting how some whiskeys I'll see on blogs and channels are $5-30 cheaper than what I can get, and sometimes $5-50 more expensive in the same state depending on demand. Just to give you an example, Elijah Craig Small Batch is $30 here in NC, and my favorite nearby store had a barrel pick that they were required to sell at $30 also. This month Small Batch is on sale for $27, so their store pick single barrel leftovers are also $27. We're getting an Eagle Rare store pick this month, and it will be the exact same price as normal Eagle Rare at $35. I imagine in private liquor stores these type of limited releases or store picks will be bumped up a lot.
Question... when Dillon says “some people think the mashbill is...” how do people “think”? Is it by taste or word through the vine? Just wondering how that speculation occurs.
Have you ever considered decantering the bourbon in taste testing to remove the art of the bottle from the equation? Really enjoy your reviews. Thanks....
I'd send it to you if I could find it but could you guy PLEASE do Angel's Envy Rye (Rum). I'm midway through the bottle I have and it's a love hate relationship. I try it, hate it. Always go back to it because it's so OUT THERE and at times I hate it again, but then like last night, I love it again. I don't have a lot of bourbon drinkers for friends and need some other takes. Thanks.
To the Holmes brothers we need to return to old school guild shows less drama more affordable bourbon 🥃 If Dutch is not willing to flex 💪🏼 his massive guns and take control of the guild i am fearful for the future 🙀
I actually did find one last fall for under $100.00 and passed on a second one for $99 a few weeks later So based on the review I may have to cash in on the one I purchased.
I love the bottle design but even at $90, it's overpriced for bourbon. There is no way I would ever pay $160 for anything that wasn't Scotch(at double the age, at that). Am I alone in thinking that anything over $40-50 is just marketing hype? Case in point: Old Forrester Straight Rye, 100 proof: $22.99. This is a truly remarkable bourbon at this price point. I was so impressed with the taste from the initial opening that I went and bought two more bottles of it. If I could figure out a way to justify it to my wife, I would buy a case of it before they start jacking the price up.
So, break it down boys,,, Personally, I really don't totally comprehend the logic of your category of UNIQUENESS. 3 points out of 10 (the category with most possible points). Is this not a bourbon review, the review of the juice??? Does the shape of the bottle really, REALLY, have any impact on the juice.. If you want to rate the bottle, then please break down the UNIQUENESS into 3 sub categories, i.e. BOTTLE OR PACKAGING,,, COST,,, and AVAILABILITY, But for me, the UNIQUENESS category is somehow jaded by whether you like the shape of the bottle, rather than the juice inside... I know I am being very critical, and I truly have no desire to do my own videos and thus be a BOURBON guru, or celebrity... But, truthfully, I hope you all continue to have fun doing these vids, they are fun to watch, however you might evaluate that glass bottle and label...
When Jules and Dillon agree on a bourbon, it's time for me to reassess everything about my life. Entertaining episode as always!

For the price you can buy Knob Creek single barrel store pics that's aged 10-14 years..... $40-$55!!

Thanks for the review!

I'm going to get to try this and the 14 Year tomorrow night at Whiskey and Barrel Nite in Louisville.

I too have an ECBP A119 picked it up for about the same $, funny thing is I much prefer my MMCS 18-0. Thoughts?

I got mine for $90.00 still haven't opened it yet. I have seen the 14 at the gift shop many times for sale swing buy agin it's there all the time
Lol. Wheater brothers. You guys are crazy. Agree with Dillon. 11 year was better.
The age of this bottle could influence the uniqueness score. Great content
Just saw that bottle in my local store here in Hawaii on Sunday. It was selling for $700.00, crazy.
