Eccentric is the word, he's completely different to everyone else. An old head on young shoulders, definitely a one off. What a voice and his talent is enormous....
So so many great Neil songs. Cowgirl In The Sand, Old Man, my personal fave Like A Hurricane, Southern Man, Don't Let It Bring You Down, way too many to name. One of the great enduring artists of our lifetime. Dig in bros!
He has 50 years of fantastic music. He has never stopped. I love all of his music. Cinnamon Girl, Cortez the Killer, Damage and the Needle Done, Mr. Soul, Hurricane. On & on. He has always been relevant, even when most people weren't paying attention.
Neil is a great man. Check out the Bridge School for special needs children that he founded (with his wife Peggy). He’s the father to 2 sons who have autism and cerebral palsy (both grown men now). He couldn’t find a school that would give his kids the education afforded to “normal” children…hence the Bridge School was born. The education is free because the school is funded by a (yearly) major concert event. BTW…he’s 74 and still “rockin’ in the free world.”
Neil Young could melt your heart with his acoustic guitar. Check out Helpless or Old Man. Neil Young could melt your face off with his electric guitar. Check out Like A Hurricane or Cowgirl In the Sand. Neil wrote the most beautiful love songs, and the most incendiary political lyrics. Check out Southern Man, Alabama, or Ohio. Neil Young is the pride of Canada.
He is one of the greats. He was great from the start, and as he grew over the years he remained great. So, picking a particular time period doesn't do any service to understanding his greatness. His acoustic solo songs, his acoustic group songs, his metal band songs, are all great. These early songs hint at what is to come later in life. But they don't prepare you for it. The jamming guitars of "Down By the River" with his band Crazy Horse can be seen in his earlier live shows with Steven Stills. But, watching this set with "Heart of Gold", and then seeing a later live show would probably shock you, because of the transition. Many of us fans couldn't keep an open mind as it was happening, and struggled with accepting his creative impulses. It took us time . But that is how genius works. They forge ahead and don't care about what others want or say.
After the Goldrush is another fantastic Neil Young song from this same period - about a certain dream/fantasy that was going around in 'alternative' circles in the early 70s... A couple of other 'vulnerable' songs that will reach out and touch your hearts are The Needle and the Damage Done, and Helpless.
Such a beautiful song with his gorgeous voice. On the studio version of this song Linda Ronstadt sang backup. She is another artist you should explore. She is amazing. You have only done one of her songs. She has a forty year catalogue to choose from. Nice reaction. Great choice. 🌺✌️
So simple and powerful. And that voice. This was Neil's biggest hit reaching #1 in America in 1972. You've yet to hear what he can really do on the guitar. Check out "Southern Man" by him. Studio version. 🎸
One of my all-time favourite Neil Young songs - it's so beautiful with the guitar and harmonica, I love it. I remember buying it as a single many moons ago. He has such a unique voice, so recognisable and so many other great songs. Thanks so much for reacting to this guys, really good, as always.
Parties when my husband and I were in our 20's. Everyone chilling out around 3 in the morning. Now I am the grandmother of 4 handsome boys I still chill to Neil Young. Zuma...crazy horse is a great album have a listen. This was played at my husband Allen's funeral and everyone sang it at the service. Holds a hell of memories.
The whole Harvest album is brilliant, and does make one reflective. So happy to see you checking out Neil Young. Next Neil Young? 'Southern Man' would be nice.
@@angelagraves865 , so much Neil Young to explore. I got to thinking that I said “Southern Man, from his album “After The Gold Rush” would be a good next song, but there is so much more of “Harvest” to enjoy. And part of “Southern Mans” interest is in the fact the call out from Lynard Skynrd on their song “Sweet Home Alabama “. I almost think new listeners need to listen to those two songs in sequence, Young’s and Lynard Skynrds response. Back in the day, we instantly knew why Ronnie Van Zant called out Young.
I love this performance. What really strikes me - this became such an iconic, major song, and he just recently learned to play harmonica, and just wrote it- amazing!
Great reaction this is one of those songs that you instantly know that your experiencing musical greatness. Neil Young is a wonderful songwriter, introspective lyricist and great performer. We were spoiled back in the day to get to experience first hand this period of time with so many musical geniuses. Can't remember what you've done before but some of his songs that I'm sure you'll love are "Helpless", "After the Girl Rush", "Out On the Weekend", "Cowgirl in the Sand", and "Don't Let it Bring You Down". They have the same signature Neil Young vibe!
Another artist that transends words for describing his musical genius and the effect his music had on a generation. When we see that you get it, it's a gift to us. What you do is a gift to us. That generation is at a point of reflection now and hopefully gratitude. Reliving these memories with your journey of discovery is transcending and pretty damn awesome. We had no ability to connect around the world like we do now, but I'm recognizing that yes we did after all. Through this music that means so much to us. Then and now. 😊✌💙
Always great see you guys thank you Neil young's 1 of my favorites and I was probably 15 when this song came out.. I bought the record From Columbia records remember them
It's your passion for the music that keeps me coming back guys. You have both made me smile so many many times. This reaction was beautiful and from the heart and I loved it!
Thank you! It's so funny, just today I was imagining you two reacting to Neil Young and here it is!! You would LOVE the song Harvest Moon. It is simply beautiful!!! Cinnamon girl is great too! He has many other awesome songs as well. Looking forward to seeing you experience more of his music! 😁
Revolution Blues, Tired Eyes, Mellow My Mind, Like a Hurricane, Cowgirl in the Sand, Helpless, Powderfinger, Pocahontas, On the Beach, Don't Cry No Tears, Journey Through the Past, Sail Away, Peace of Mind...
After my papa died I got in a car with my uncle who was going to drive me back home (a six hour car ride) - this song came on the radio as soon as we started driving. Was therapeutic to say the least.
Crosby Stills and Nash, then Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Graham Nash started with the Hollies, a British group many years ago. Now I'm old, Neil Young 75, and I'm 74. Wheres the time gone...
I love Old Man from this BBC set. Listen to the studio Heart of Gold, Linda Rhondstat sang backup before she made a solo career. And even though a southern man don't need him around any how, still good songs. This was a very popular album. So many moments of my life happened with this song's Harvest album playing on the record player. I'm pretty sure everybody I knew for 20 years, and I listened to this together, I see the faces of so many friends when I hear this. Neil Young, America, and Bread, these bands go together like peas and carrots.
Neil's Live from Massey Hall performance is one of the most epic ever. He does a version of A Man Needs A Maid combined with this song that will make you weep, as well as an unplugged version of his classic guitar workout Cowgirl In The Sand. Also, I believe it was his first performance of his epic tune Old Man. Well worth checking out my dudes.
A very short song that is amazing is "Cripple Creek Ferry" you could do it along with the next Neil Young song that you do. Also, Neil performed with a group called Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young that has many great songs.
Another great one from his acoustic catalog during this same period is The Needle And The Damage Done and then you should check out his electric catalog of music, he has a huge catalog of music a rabbit hole well worth going down
I get such a kick at sixty three watching you guys react to the music I lived through, it takes me back ,we knew listening to all these groups and artists that they were first rate and that we were experiencing perfection in a lot of cases
He was so young then! I'm 59 and a long time fan of Neil's,so glad I got my son into his music and we were able to enjoy listening together those precious few years before my son died at 31.
Check out Prairie Wind, it is a more contemporary song and the title of a special that was taped in Nashville before he had brain surgery ( he had a brain aneurism). The whole dvd is great!!!!
Out On The Weekend, from the same album, Harvest. I read the lyrics in a magazine once, and kept hearing a tune. I thought I was reading a poem, turned out it was a song I'd known for years.
This is music, this art!
I'm sooo glad to live through this genius music and artist!.
Neil Young: Harvest Moon - you'll love it.
Neil lived in the north of my province in Ontario Canada in his early years. He is an icon. Cheers from Canada
Good old Canadian boy Neil. A sense of humour and low key. Playing harmonica and guitar at the same time! One of the great singer/songwriters.
🎸💯 Neil Young‼What a talented
writer & performer‼🔥
Love this performance..! "Old Man from this concert is very good as well...!
Eccentric is the word, he's completely different to everyone else. An old head on young shoulders, definitely a one off.

Great Canadian singer, songwriter and musician. Powderfinger Live - amazing song.
Love Neil. Plugged in, love him more. Cinnamon Girl, When You Dance, Like a Hurricane, Rockin' in the Free World, Powder Finger.
First heard this in 1972 as a 16 year old, loved him and his music ever since.
So so many great Neil songs. Cowgirl In The Sand, Old Man, my personal fave Like A Hurricane, Southern Man, Don't Let It Bring You Down, way too many to name. One of the great enduring artists of our lifetime. Dig in bros!
And some of his very best songs are deeper in his catalog.
Love Neil Young - My suggestion is The Needle and the Damage is Done - truth
He has 50 years of fantastic music. He has never stopped. I love all of his music. Cinnamon Girl, Cortez the Killer, Damage and the Needle Done, Mr. Soul, Hurricane. On & on. He has always been relevant, even when most people weren't paying attention.

One of Canada's greatest treasures. Thanks guys.
Another powerful Neil Young song is The Needle and the Damage Done, written after his guitarist died of a heroin overdose.
Fantastic reactions. Enjoy more of Neil. "Old Man" is a wonderful one he played at that very concert...
I love that one ❤️❤️❤️
One of the best songs ever written. Try "old man," "unknown legend", "needle and the damage done" and "harvest Moon" as well
This man is a treasure, this song is pure... well... gold 👏👏
Incredible talent, I mean how do you play two completely different instruments at the same time flawlessly… genius!

Just a man and his guitar (oh yeah, and his harmonica). Nothing else needed. Perfection.
The best LP of 1972 Neil Young "Harvest"
Pure talent 👍
