cant believe these advice clips are free, one of my biggest problems was losing shoulder retraction during the unrack and after I started unracking with my hips up I have been able to maintain shoulder depression much better
I struggle with retraction too. It honestly makes my lifts harder for some reason. Idk if I am doing it wrong or what. What helped my un-rack was to think about it as almost a triceps press. Also helps if you can get your jcups into the perfect spot. Some racks at gyms can be really annoying that way.
Haha it’s not about the revenue, that’s pretty inconsequential at this point. We’re trying to be brief and concise because we think that’s important to good content. Glad you enjoy!
man i cant not belive how good this is about 3 weeks ago i could only press 80kg max now with that tip i found in your videos i went up to 100kg and even thought i could do more but i will stay for now on the 80 to 100kg range. Really really awesome tips man everybody found know about you . Keep it real :D
These short 3-minute videos are awesome and I definitely appreciate how much information you put out in that small time frame. Keep up the awesome work!
Great video Bryce! I had this problem before but my bench press setup is now uncomfortable yet more stronger is that makes sense. I get super tight on my setup as I do it the Scott Mendelson way as I have on my YT channel.
I feel like this small adjustment could do a lot. I've been kind of wishy washy with when I put my butt down and when I bring the bar forward. Going to give this a go this week but I think moving the bar forward followed by putting my butt down should help me maintain scapular depression better.
This is one of the most important things while benching - not talked alot about though. Quick question i've been wondering about - whats your height? As always quality content!
Just wanna say thanks for all these videos(and all your videos in general), ive managed to add alot of stability and lbs to my bench by implementing these changes.
This was the problem I had to face today ..when I was about to do one rep max.. I had no spotter and ended up failing my reps due to overload while lifting off the heavy bar from the rack....
Unless you work out completely alone, the best thing you can do is ask someone to give you a lift off. For me it makes a world of difference to get a lift off, makes the weight feel much lighter and comfortable.
Does anybody else feel quite a bit weaker when you focus on squeezing the shoulder blades together? I tried to really follow those ques to keep the shoulder blades retracted and tight and kinda depressing the lats and whatnot, and failed far sooner into my set than I normally would. Idk if I was already doing it right subconsciously and messing it up by thinking too much or what. I want to send a form video in but on the unlikely chance I get chosen I would much prefer help with my deadlift as I am never sure if my setup is optimal, while bench is by far my best lift as far as numbers to bodyweight ratio go. Right now I am really weak as I had surgery and was out for a few months, also haven't been able to eat enough and have lost about 12 lbs (intestinal surgery). But before that my bench was creeping up on 260 lbs with 250-255 being consistantly achievable every near max session. I weighed 150 lbs (5' 6"tall, thick chest and short arms. Built for it lol) at the time. My deadlift was right about 350 on a good day, 335-340 on occasion if my body or nutrition/hydration was out of whack. Now my bench is probably max 205-210 (haven't maxed since surgery since I have been getting things just used to moving weight again). And my dead is a pathetic estimated (for me) 295 max, 275 for 6 reps... really sucks trying to bounce back, but it is happening a bit faster than I thought it would. Although I still struggle to eat enough as it screws with my digestion to really pack it in, and I end up constipated which is the worst. Bonus is all the really high calorie stuff I get to eat to get calories in with the reduced volume I eat atm.
My Goodness! You literally solved my losing my tightness issue when I unrack the bar. Thank you Bryce for this! I just have one concern. In powerlifting meets, are you allowed to raise your hips up for the unracking of the bar? If I am not mistaken, the rule is that you should have your buttocks on the bench throughout the unracking, lifting, and reracking of the bar.
The judges will be looking for your butt to be on the bench after you unrack. They won't give the start command until you've unracked, have elbows locked, feet flat on the floor, head on the bench, and butt down. If you unrack with butt down, you might get a faster start command since the judges have 1 less thing they have to wait to see, but I'd say it's worth waiting for a slightly longer start command unracking with butt off the bench for the increased tightness you get from it.
Literally only clicked cuz Im confused...Fashooo. Cuz I was benching today and I max at about 270lbs touch n go but I can only unrack 240. Without a liftoff
Do I need to depress my shoulders if im already depressed
Self deprecation
you need to be more depressed
Strawbbwafer I would do the press more often
Yes, you can never have too much depression!
Mr Undertaker wow that’s impressive!

Yo I know making a video only 3 minutes long hits your YT revenue-but I think we all love the straightforward content.

I'm so glad you talked about this, Bryce. It's one of those things i see people do but I didn't understand why or how. You're the best!
I need this. My bench is more off kilter than Bryce pointing away from the corner annotations @ 0:11
Dude in the background been watching FCF
Best illustration I seen thus far , thanks
These quick nuanced tips are amazing
It is absolutely maddening how easy this fix was and how much better my bench feels now. Thank you!!

Thank you so much. Now i know why i always lost my shoulder depression and it's so hard to feel my lat.

Exceptional explanation thank you

Keys upon keys 🗝
Oh nice I been doing this already :D now I just need to figure out where to touch and my bar path.
Awesome tip mate, added 15lb to my bench right off the bat. Cheers!

SQUAAAA 🔥
Thanks for this, Bryce and crew 🙏
instantly increased bench strength by doing this
Why couldn't you post this months ago, I figured this out on my own like last week lmao.
Sean has a good ig story about this and the cues

Is this allowed in powerlifting competitions?
Yes, you just won't get the start command until your bum is on the bench.
I wish I could unrack like that. I find I loose tension if I do
Good stuff

You can raise your hips before the unrack, but you have to get them on the bench before you’ll get the ‘start’ command.
@@calgarybarbell Thanks for the reply!!!
I luuuuuuuuuuuv you brrrrryyyyyyyyycccccccce
Wait is this the same technique that you used at worlds? Definitely needed this to get better consistency

Why do i feel stronger working out evenings rather than morning
