    Why are feet important? - Stability and tightness
    - Wide(er) foot position for maximum stability 2:22
    - Whole foot is pushed in to the ground for leg drive (cue: drive toes to the end of the shoe) 2:47
    - Knees are below hips for maximum tension 3:54
    If you have discomfort whilst in the wide stance, use the couch stretch seen here 7:03 for improving mobility

    A new Pillar series by JTS? Yes, please! I liked the video before I watched it. Always great stuff. Can't wait for the other parts coming out.
    I hope there will be a deadlift pillar series after the bench series. Thanks for the great and helpful content!

    Great video. I just turned turned 18 a couple months ago and am attempting a 1rm of 100kg on Sunday so I'm trying to give my self the biggest chance of hitting it. I've never be sure on foot placement as I've always had narrow positioning and have always been on my toes, I didn't realize how much using you whole foot can be beneficial.

    I've seen your squat school and pillars videos but can you also talk about the overhead squat, just plain regular squat with no dropping or balancing, for instance what muscles to use, head position and torso position compared to back and front squat etc. I've never seen anybody qualified talked in depth about it

    I didn´t follow the bit about long shin versus short shin. Do you mean that people with long shins will have there feet further forward and closer together and people with short shins will have their feet further back and out? What happens if you have particularly long femurs in realtion to everything (torso and shin)? thanks!

    • @Mylada
      @Mylada 6 лет назад

      Rikke Fremo Tønnesen If you have longer chins, you need more mobility to get the legs under you rather in front.

    • @AeriaOris

      You probs lower the bar too high on the chest utilising your upper chest more on normal bench press and technique probs inferior for strength to ur inclien bench

      xinsanedefeatx had to train a bunch of sumo before nationals to work around sciatica issues but conventional is still the ticket for her. She’s relatively long legged or so she tells me.

    I seem to be causing spinal pressure in my neck when bench pressing.
    This causes some injuries that leave me unable to lift much for a week.
    Any suggestions?

    • @alienfittraining5987
      @alienfittraining5987 5 лет назад

      I would say.. Try to warmp up with exercises that extend your spine (cat-camel, push your chin into your chest to extend the spine, look up as well,) and also when done with a set of benching.. Try hanging from a bar to decompress all that tension. Live Strong

  • @das.5457
    @das.5457 5 лет назад +1

    @Karl J -"This is the most idiotic movement in all of weightlifting" -I'm sure you say that because you suck at benching, The bench is far more difficult and complex than the squat and deadlift, it also takes longer to progress so just keep your opinion to yourself :)

      I think most who say sumo is cheating are doing so sarcastically or from a place of ignorance. Surprisingly, Marisa likely had the 2nd longest bench ROM among IPF Worlds competitors in her class but also had the 3rd heaviest bench and was far and away the most muscular.
