    Okay I quite possibly may be nuts, at times I would agree. But I have decided to become a medical coder. I've started attending an online class from AAPC. I have found this course cross eyed difficult and at times screaming "what?" The weird part is I like it! I work 8 hrs a night, have just moved into a new house that I share with 2 cats and a special needs dog. The part that most find the real surprising part, I'm over 70 years of age. This stuff makes me fell young by challenging me. Wish me luck cause I'm going to try and pass the test by the end of the year. 2020 has stolen so much from so many but I'm going to make it a positive year for me!

    To be fair I believe you give a very realistic view of this career. Those saying you sound negative seem to be romanticizing the idea of just becoming a medical coder and not having a realistic view. So when you come at them with "this is how its gonna be" you're kinda bringing them back down to earth and outta their heads which some types of people really don't like. You come off as very intelligent and informative. Thank you for the information. Now I know this isn't the job for me, which I'm happy to know before I drop the money on the schooling. Thank you so, so much for your comment!
      There are a LOT of places out there that like to post photos of people sitting on the beach with computers and convince people they can just sign up for their training program and that will be them! I certainly don't want to deter anyone from getting in this career because it is super interesting and can be very lucrative, but there are a LOT of certified coders that were lured in, paid a ton of cash, and are extremely frustrated that they can't find a job. It's heartbreaking!

      Actually, if you describe most jobs procedures, they sound harder than they really are.
      Like most computer jobs, you'll be required to sit in front of a computer most of the day. You'll be required to make or received some phone calls and respond to emails and also attend meetings. Most jobs send email updates on procedures.
      So even though she listed a lot of things, it's mostly standard computer stuff.
      A great example would be to list everything a secretary does and her responsibilities and you'll assume they make 100k but they make way less.
      Lastly, once you learn to code and get the hang of it, it's very robotic and monotonous job. After a few years of experience, making 60k for a 9 - 5 isn't bad especially if your gig is working from home. Only because you save a lot of money WFH due to not having to go to the office, gas, food, clothes, etc.
      Don't be overwhelmed by her list of requirements and procedures. If you look at most jobs online, the requirements for the simplest jobs is long and sounds overwelming etc.
      Good luck, all! 👍

    As a person who is a bit dissatisfied with their current BS in Computer Science and Information Security, I am glad that I went to a webinar for MS for Health Information Management (HIM) which lead me to check out their certificates in medical coding. While I am still on the fence on whether I want to jump into a MS or a certificate program off the back of graduating by Fall of 2022, a certificate in Medical Coding seems to be more promising as I watch videos trying to understand the day to day expectations. It isn't much different from my standard coding classes (minus the fact that I haven't coded in C++ for about 2 years and all they use is Python to explain stuff that still doesn't make sense), but it none the less it seems to weigh it's positives from my general degree that I was originally going for. Thanks for uploading this video, I will very much be watching more of them as well as speaking to people from my college as to what would be best for me, in my own best interest :)

    I'm in my 6th year as an MLT. This job is so stressful. It's similarly to coding in that we do a lot of investigative work and have to be accurate. We also have to deal with ethical dilemmas like nurses wanting us to run bad specimens. But we are always short staffed, you might have a coworker who makes you do all the work, you might be asked to do phlebotomy or cover things you're not trained to do. A lot of repetitive tasks. I like the idea of being at my computer all day and focusing on a few things. In the lab you're being asked to take care of 10 things all at once. There's also a limited career ladder for MLTs and MTs/CLS. I'm leaning more towards this.

    • @Angeleechie
      @Angeleechie 2 года назад +2

      Geez, nurses wanting to run bad specimens. That's insane. If they couldn't get a good specimen I would get it myself. But that's the phlebotomist in me. If I were you I would put your foot down. A good lab director should back you up. I am sorry you have put that much into MLT and aren't happy. Maybe you should take your talent to another lab?

    Considering my previous job experience as a correctional officer sergeant (working office side of it), I feel MBC is nearly like what I used to do for my other supervisors. I used to type bunches of their different paperworks up for them! All I basically did for them is type things for them for 12 hours daily (5 days a week). Sounds like the way you put it, MBC is the job I can truly click with where is way safer than my previous employment (without worrying about dealing with offenders and potential Use of Force with them). Working on getting approved for school for next month!

I am looking for work now and I will be starting in an admin position. Based on the position which is a registration rep I find it difficult to accept job offerings because I have to return to being a bottom feeder and that is very difficult when you have lived life according to a certain salary for some time now. In fact, it can be quite an adventure with many opportunities to learn something new while climbing the ladder of success.
