The actual model of GE999 is the Japanese C62 locomotive. There are only 49 C62 locomotives actually manufactured, but the GE999 number in the TV version is C-62-50. The author says it connects the past and the future.
so in the episode the locomotives I think got shot by a alien ship that corrodes metal and the train got attacked by it and then when it rusted the locomotive stop working thus it crash landing on the planet
