Thank you for your videos over the years; very helpful and entertaining. :) Jeff, is it okay to low kick as a TKD guy like he did, front or back leg? Or, would his instep get broke if you had checked, without shin guards?
thanks for your support man! Yes it is, I always aim to kick with the instep/lower shin and same with the best Muay Thai fighters nowadays as well! Uppershin does more damage but more risk of getting hit in the head
The first time in 90s I sparred with a muay thai guy, it wasn't his first time with TKD and ALL he did was low kicks . I had no defense at all and after raking a few I said let's stop I need to go away and rethink things
Tkd is legit people really dont realize how good they can surprise you with kicks Cuz it comes from with in Hard to see it come Lift one knee up along side the other knee in a narrow fashion Then they unleash that leg by turning the hip in with it Tkd kick dont come from around the block in circular motion its everything pretty much up n straight out Love tkd kicks to me they the most effective kicks ever N very powerfull
Jeff is literally the best. I love his content and I can’t wait to emulate it when I spar people on my other channel. Although I will hardly be just as skilled, Jeff is my senseiiiiiiii for this stuff. I need to practice his signatures and fidget walk stance switch. Do that moooooore Jeff it’s so tricky
Love your channel Jeff, been watching for years. I recently started to make videos (not combat related), and man, oh man, your edit is slick 😮 looks like tons of work. Keep it up
Da fuq are these bot comments and pfps. Anyways really cool to see the differences between the kicks from these styles. Which one do you think is harder to deal with?
It’s hard to judge on pure technique as the training is so different. So in a one-on-one you don’t just get to see technique, but speed, execution and….toughness. You often see Muay Thai fighters beat fighters from another discipline in actual fights with that toughness being a really big factor: they train really hardcore (particularly in Thailand) not just to toughen up their shins, but also to take hard kicks and hits. So you’ll see a Tae Kwon Doka, Karateka, etc execute a series landing a good number of kicks and punches but they don’t have enough force to make the Muay Thai fighter buckle
Fun fact tkd used to have elbows, knees and more punching usage, but modern dojo's removed the elbows and knees because they were 'too dangerous' and the punching usage because they consider tkd to be performance only and thus train for performance only.
Taekwondo can be efficient when they want finally 😂 But it doesn't change all problems we can find in teaching... (inefficient traditionnal poomse, poor punchs, irrealistic parry, etc). But with changes, everyone with he want can change and make Taekwondo,.efficient 🎉 This video prove it. Thanks for this film...
Fake you need learn about real tkd and need diference at tkd itf and tkd wtf , the old school tkd its a war combat Style and now only see tkd wtf (olimpyc)
I love how the combos were Jane together especially when the TKD fighter use the momentum of dropping from a kick to go into a cross. And everybody got their props including the cameraman ooh wee.
"Which martial art is better" is less important than "how good is the teacher/how good is the student?" Every martial arts school I've gone to has had a particular focus, but they never had exclusions.
The key to beating the taekwondo style using MT/KB is distance: either close in and unload a barrage or keep a long distance so they can't reach you and frustrate them. You might need to be a bit patient - this will also benefit you. Keep your hands close to your head at all times when in the danger zone of kicks.
Muay Thai looks like a lot of distance control and measurement to set up your power kicks. TKD looks very aggressive with directional kicks, like prodding the defense to set up a feint or switchup
Looks like they're both going for the longest range techniques they can, but 100% agree, instead of last snappy head kick a back leg round could have worked well, I guess dropping the punch before as well
Yo Jeff when you do your teep fake your arms do something way different to when you actually teep, if you keep it consistent it will be more convincing
Both good in their own right. People shit on TKD but if you've ever sparred a high level one you'll know they are dangerous. My advice if you face one: HANDS UP AT ALL TIMES, and stay in midrange or clinch range, you're almost certainly a better boxer and clincher than them if you train MT.
That low 1 into the high 7, do you think it has knockout power? Threw it in a competition, and dude wasn't super phased (shin guards, head gear for context); just wondering if I'm not throwing it hard enough or if it's just not super powerful
Sometimes I try the sequence like Jeff ending in the low kick, but my opponent doesn’t back up like Jeff’s opponent so I have no reason to do the stepping low kick. How do you get people to respect your space so you can close the distance ? My opponent’s are so stationary like the Thai style instead of the movement/mma style .
Nice combos. Would you call yourself a muay thai guy,? I see the taekwondo kicks by zack. That snesled in head kick was accurate and slick. He has good abductor muscles
@@MMAShredded it was a joke, Jeff. Obviously, you're a muay thai fighter lol. Maybe if I goat you enough you'll come to Vancouver and spar with the boys, or maybe you'll just kick my ass. Honestly I only know that about you (muay thai) because your in the Canadian Circle of fighters and you have evolved so much since a few years ago that you have dropped some of the muay thai bad habits. Or things that don't serve mma. Like your kicking in ways that don't spell muay thai anymore (snapping back your kicks, no follow through). Not to boost your ego but you're better than just a muay thai fighter. You're a solid true, mma fighter. Actually you're getting so good you could be the taekwondo or muay thai fighter, I'm going on other videos I've seen of you. Recently you've learned a lot and quickly. I guess what matters for you is not how good the kick is but how effective is it. Will it cause damage. Being in one fc your strikes gotta count. But yeah you have evolved. Looking good. Many of us routinely kick hard objects. My Grandmaster used to have us square up on the heavy bag (wavemaster) and kick the hard plastic bottom 10x a side at like 50-60% power barefoot just to condition the feet. They don't even bruise after a while. Add in shin guards like the ones he's wearing, and you're totally fine.

In a street fight, you mostlly only need two kicks, groin kicks, knee kicks/stomps. And the question mark kicks seems to be quite effective also.
