  • Back in September 2017, I bought a five floor, 2 apartment, 320 sqm (3,450 sqft) townhouse in Brussels, with the idea of turning it into a share house.
A one bedroom apartment is located on the 2nd floor, and a 4 bedroom apartment sits on the 3rd, 4th and 5th floors. The one bedroom apartment will be converted into two ensuite rooms, so that the share house features six bedrooms and four baths.
Before anything else, I've installed my new workshop on the first floor, which is much larger than my previous workshop! It took me over two months to have a decent setup, and I'm still far from being done!
Electrical and plumbing/heating aside, I decided to remodel the whole house myself, so it will take a while!
Here is the current state of the house. The electricity and plumbing are 90% done, and I already worked a lot in the house but as you can see I'm not done yet!

Good luck, I look forward to following your progress - I hope you will be using OSB somewhere? And perhaps some other interesting materials here and there. I am soon making a traditional panelled bathroom vanity but with a concrete top for my shower room...

Hi Barrie. I keep using OSB in my workshop located on the first floor of the house (I will probably make a video once the workshop is completed). I don't know yet if I will use OSB in the living spaces of the house, as OSB doesn't cope well with tenants. But I should experiment with different materials and techniques, and I may share some experiences on RUclips :-)

Town house? looks like an old Hotel the size of the en suites, they are well big.
I saw one description saying 2.5 baths on the 4th floor? How do you get 2 and a half baths?
That's alot of work to do on your own, one floor at a time will do for starters. Good Luck.

Actually, the house was built in 1962 and the second floor was originally designed as a one bedroom apartment, that's why the ensuite rooms look so big (the first one was a living room before).
There are two bathrooms plus a powder room/half bath on the 4th floor. And yes, it's a lot of work :-)

It is a big project! My workshop is located on the first floor, and the upper floors will be rented as a share house

HODYO Design how did you remove it? I also have some on my rental property. I just rip it by hand for now, dont know what the best way is.

@@kattihatt Dig deep, remove as much roots as you can (even very small ones), let young new plants grow with only a couple of small leaves, then roundup. Rince and repeat. Don't let the new plants grow too much or roots will get strong enough again. The strategy is to weaken the roots enough so that they can't produce new plants and they die. It took me 3 years. Hope it helps.
