I find it odd, but it is said in science and in animation, that big eyes make something appear more "cute". But Emi has comparatively small beady eyes and still is adorable.
Maybe bcuz of her big cheeks that compliments it?
Maybe because she’s a kaiju so it’s works the opposite 😂
Character design wise, it’s balanced out by the fact that she has a very large head and very round cheeks. Add that to the general proportions of a toddler or child as well as the fact that her eyes don’t really have whites and you get an incredibly cute character! They did a fantastic job on her!
she also has large irises, creating the bead eyes look. Same effect as big eyes but don't normally work on some art styles.
I bet there is some concept art of Emi with big eyes before they noticed that they could pull off a realistic bead eyes and still looking good
She's a chunky baby, no one would hate that
The fact that Mina acts like a mother to both Ken and Emi

Emi's so cute, i loved when she was playing base ball in the street then she saw the floaty thingy (idk what its called😭) with Ken's face on and on the thingy he said "just like a home run" and Emi did a home run🥺
The name for “the floaty thingy” are actually called drones, as Dr. Onda said their name when 4-5 of them were destroyed by Emi near a coastline in the movie. :)
