Sony Xperia XZs got large bezels, kinda old-fashion, this time I’ll do a drop test with it, include bottom down drop, back cover down drop and screen down drop. Will it survive? Let’s see.
P.S. I'd done a scratch test video for this XZs, so you guys can see there's already some scratches on the phone.

Bezels definitely played its part.
Screen was surprisingly not damaged at all despite the amount of force applied by the drops.
I bet you can have a perfectly working display with the S8 when done with the same test.

Galaxy S8 was way worse when dropped. And it seems from this video that the floor surface is rough, which might cause the scratches.
They can continue using Polycarbonate, just not the big proportion of the device. But I held this phone in personal already and it still feels rock solid as if it wasn't just a plain plastic frame.
Sony doesn't have to price their mid rangers too low. They only need reasonable price tags. The XA1 is their latest great mid ranger and costs about averagely at its best.

Moral of the story:
When you analyze the points of origin of the breaks in the glass, you find that they originated from the corners and sides.
A TPU case (or silicone, in case you can't find TPU) will definitely prevent all those cracks. Furthermore, they also have a lip on top, preventing completely the screen from touching any flat surface (either on drop or on simple top-down placement.
Nobody can tell that I suggested an expensive solution :) A good TPU case usually goes for less than 10 € / USD.

Xperia XZ Premium should be much more durable. If you have really seen how the XZ Premium is built, you will see it was built differently than the XZ and XZs design.
1) If you look closely, you can see that the XZ/XZs have plastic all over the frame, while the XZP has two metal bumpers in the upper side and down side, which covers all the four corners, it should never touch the plastic on drops.
2) The XZP has also a curved cut around the metal, which also should make it less corny and damagable, I guess.
3) The XZP has also Gorilla Glass 5, while XZ/XZs does not, they have some unspecified older Gorilla Glass version, as GSMArena says.
In conclusion, *I think* the XZP should perform much better on drops. Let's wait for its drop test and see how does it perform!

My *Xperia Z* drop for 30~40 times I think since 4~5 years ago till now.
Leonhart Leong the strongest Xperia I have, like you said, my Z drop often but still fine, then I have Z3 which broke after its first drop. Then in Z5 i think it's more durable from Z3. Now I use XZs.
my xperia z2 has been with me since 2014, in 2015 my friend got my phone and rode his hovertrax thinking it was funny to get it and I chased him which he crashed with my phone dropping on his hand tempered cracked the whole screen works completely fine, and after that numerous years later with over 30+ drops 2018 with a fatal drop the lcd has cracked
I have z1 compact drop about 50 times but still work fine.
Thanks bro for making this video. About to buy xz1 but curious for z5 crack problem (where a single line crack would make the screen unresponsive)

My *Xperia Z* use for 4~5 year as well, till now.
this is unbelievable it still works will All that damage, I dropped my xz it's back down to the floor, in its rubberised case no visible damage whatsoever and now it wont turn on or charge up, completely dead so hoping it can be repaired, must be internal damage due to the impact with the ground! 😞
Yes, maybe the battery or screen flex cable was loosen, you can try open it and reconnect them.

I too using Xperia.zxs last 4yrs almost dozens of times it slipped from my hand.... But still it's totally working fine... Even i didn't go service center for any issue...

for all you people watching this & commenting below, did anyone ever wondered which phone he is using for the drop test???
he is using the phone which he had already used for the durability, scratch test. so all those scratches at the back & on the sides the paint chipped on the sides etc were already present on the phone before he started the drop test.
so just follow the wordings he puts out in the video to say what he is observing during the drop test. don't be an ignorant piece of ......... and blindly comment.

Xperia z3 and Z5 strong building
Mohamad Noridzan Abu Serah z3 is shit. When I first got the phone it smashed and the touch screen stoped working. I dropped it from knee hight face flat on a flat surface and bam just like that broke. That was when I was 13 and really short. And 2 years later it's broken again. Somehow enough pressure was put on the speaker at the top of the screen and now it's cracked. Most of the screen works fine but I was meant to be giving this phone to my dad once I get a new phone since he's not to bothered about having the best phone. Now he's gonna be pissed. He's already spent £500+ when he bought it and £60 when the screen cracked the first time. Not to mention the monthly pay for the phone so now another £60. He's gonna be pissed.

i know about the other video but in this drop test you picked up the phone and wrote above "just some scratches on the metal back cover."... you wrote it without any explanation where they came from so a person wich don't know the other video would assume that the scratches came from the drop test. You could've wrote something like "scratches from a previous test" or at least at the beginning at the video "note: the device has already been testet and therefore it is already a bit damaged". your video is very misleading.
