GSMarena always bash Sony, and they always praise Samsung. In my opinion, I think Sony is far better And even more unique than Samsung. And to me, Sony's camera is better as well. Because of GSMarena always praising Samsung and iPhone, I don't believe in that sight anymore.
Yeah. Sony phones and apple phones stand the test of time... dont know why they praise cheap shit Samsung phones.. they underperform after 6months...

Yet looking at the S7 Edge images, they're extremely detailed that I can't even say is true when I had a chance to try the camera in reality

+speedemon1992 That's because Samsung usually implements features better than other companies do. If Samsung will make a similar phone as XZ Premium, they will be most likely to use AMOLED instead of IPS for better contrast and efficiency, include the newest gen. Gear VR in the box, use Exynos chipset in most regions instead of Snapdragon, put resolution changer/dedicated VR software/game tuner etc. XZ Premium has none of those features. I still prefer XZ Premium over S8 though, I don't like how the fingerprint scanner is placed beside camera and how tall the display is.

oh, ok.... design again... Must be something wrong with me, because I found sonys design for beautiful and timeless. And the bezels are there because its more practical than no bezels at all. This phone even surpass the Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+
Its strange they dont say dejvu on iPhones or Samsungs other devices? I mean there is a reason why Sony looks like a Sony, and Despite Samsung did this big huge screen and no bezels, it STILL LOOKS LIKE SAMSUNG, its the same type of design. I've seen the video before, yes, in brightly lit environment XZs seemed to find an optimum balance between highlights and shadows, as well as colour saturation. But since the resolution is limited to 1080p you cannot say which one has better details than others. Sony's processing, even though it is getting better and better over time, is still known to smudge details a bit even in daylight.
And don't forget that there is almost no detail in XZs' pictures in comparison to iPhone 7's and P10's as well as it strongly oversaturates colours under a low-light condition. A use of better sensor cannot simply overcome lack of OIS and poorer software processing. GSMArena provides a FULL RESOLUTION samples of low-light shots from XZs, which all look pretty horrible in Auto, you should check them out.

For example, the picture of a yellow apartment found on GSMArena's review on XZs says that it is taken by Sony G8231 with an exposure time of 1/25 of a second and an ISO level of 800 and has a resolution of 5056 x 3792, and if you zoom in it looks pretty horrible.
So for sony mobile GSMArena always says negative when most of them are not true... Dont review sony when you dont like it

Sony is still grand dad of all the cameras as their Exmor sensors are widely used by almost every camera brand. Brand like Apple, Samsung is also procuring the world famous Sony Exmor sensors, Never forget that.

I think it was a fair review and actually quite positive. They said it has a great build quality, great screen quality and a really good battery life with implemented constructs to prolong the battery. That's everything I want. Those glass phones look nice but are slippery and won't survive a drop, and with several phones I'm not happy with the battery life in terms of usage time and/or the long term where after two years you'll have a problem making it through a day if you're an active user.
They are also talking about Sony's own apps, which they like. In most cases the added apps are stuff you won't even use. And even though they are critical of the camera performance, they still call it great (and you can expect some improvements with the future updates, which is what Sony has done well for their top tier phones as well as the higher midrangers). And the audio equalizer options are quite interesting as well, even though I simply use an MP3 player since phones are always crap in terms of audio output.

they've even rated sony's other models cameras very low. but watch comparisons of manila shaker on RUclips or refer dxomark ratings. even when xz premium launched with beastly features look at gsmarena and phonearenas reviews which were full of criticism from the starting itself without even testing the device. and when Samsung or apple brings anything boring like bixby etc they present it to you like its the innovation of the year. you just need common sense to notice this.

Stas i am not a sony fan boy but being very much into this tech thing my whole family is a tech freak and changes our phones every now and then. unlike other who just watch these reviews at home and comments I've personally tested sony's xperia z ultra, z1,z3,z5 ; galaxy s5,s6 ; moto x style ; iPhone 6s! and till now i have had any hardware issues with any of my xperia and even my z ultra is rocking and handling many day to day apps smoothly whereas my s6's display got some purple lines and microphone got dead where as my s5 which i use it as a spare phone has become a shitty phone and can't handle most of the apps. moto x style has got some touch issues and head phone jack is dead. where as iphone 6s was reliable untill it screen cracked falling from of my 1feet height sofa. when it comes to cameras i perosnally can assure u that Samsung camera's are a lil better in handling dynamic range but colour accuracy and details are far far better in my z5. moto x's camera produces completely different colours. iPhone's are washed out colours. Sony's camera has some digital noise issue but at the end its the most natural looking photo. and when it comes to speakers i haven't experienced any sort of reduction in volume compared to my day 1 of purchase in sony devices even if take it too pool but my s6's speaker started to muffle with just swimming pool session. battery life has been drastically reduced on my other devices(s5,6s,moto x style) as they get old but not on any of my xperias. my z ultra still lasts the whole day even if it is as old as 3 years. there are many day to day things which you can only notice if you own one such xperia beauty and you can't find these details in any of these shitty biased reviews. go get the XZ premium and S8 and see which last more without visiting service centre. and not to forget that super expensive displays of Samsung which will cost you a fortune if dropped. and when it comes to bezels i am very much okay with it as it gives me much better hold while playing landscape games. and not to mention that no phone is perfect every phone lacks something or the other but at the end its the overall performance. Sony's and moto's software (ui) are the best in Android unlike Samsung's heavy software which is a burden for many top chipsets to handle. samsung has its own pros too like a better resale value, good back cases, wireless charging, camera handles highly exposed scenes perfectly, audio is louder than competition but cant match the surround like effect of stereo speakers. iPhone has its pros too like stable software, high resale value, reliability but again lack of new features makes it boring to me. and not to forget when it comes to android Sony is the best when it comes to longer and quicker software updates among non Google oems. but at the end of the day its your choice and this was my opinion based on my practical experiences
The iPhone has been sporting the same design from 10 years ago and nobody said nothing about it. Sony sticks to its own design language for a few flagships and it receives so much hate. WTF? Camera wise, you can't really compare a smartphone camera to say a DSLR. This is why you use your smartphone cameras to shoot pics and vids for your social media and not for actual photography! Ever seen a photographer working on set with a camera phone? Didn't think so. And while I do agree that taking stills on an Xperia may not be the most pleasant experience, you can't deny that they trash all the other brands out there when it comes to shooting videos. Maybe this is Sony's problem for focusing on the video recording aspect of the camera a little too much and somehow neglected the photo taking function of the camera but this isn't something that cannot be fixed. It's just how they place their priorities and honestly it's a little weird but I ain't complaining. And talking about low quality of the slow motion video...have you seen how fucking ridiculously low quality an iPhone slow mo video is? You can't see shit!
The XZs has corrected all the flaws that the original xz has, the xzs has now a flawless multitasking, great camera even in low lights, the icons have a new design, all the issues which the software had earlier has been corrected, that phone has been optimised in every possible way, and it's way snappier than the original xz

all of this could be done in xz via software update, no need for a whole new phone.
This review is for the average consumer. We need to understand that Sony's smartphone are made to cater photographer's needs. That high ISO, memory stacked camera, Predictive Hybrid AF. All of those are put together in a small device for photographers to carry whenever they don't feel carrying a large gear or setup. Photos that come out of Sony smartphones are neutral, not too much post processing, no strong colour mixtures. Photos are meant to be played on tbe Photoshop and Lightroom. BTW, I'm an amateur photographer.
And another thing to say, other smartphone doesn't have that shutter button.
sony users doesn't mind about design, but they care about quality and whats inside it. glad to have and use it. they make good devices and u should believe.

Everyone said that the price of this smartphone is to much higher but if they are Apple everbody bought them whithout any complains about the price little strange thing. This Smartphone is superb for what they offer because of the feature of the slow motion camera the way he treat the image period.

As a Z5c owner, I think this is a *great* review. It covers all of the aspects I wanted to know about in an objective manner. Sony phone cameras are remarkably bad in low light and indoors, with very poor post process noise reduction that blurs the image while still leaving noise. Unfortunately, it looks like even though the camera sensor has been upgraded, the camera processing is poor as in previous releases. Unfortunate, and I'll be passing on this gen of Sony phones and looking towards Nokia/HMD to set a new bar for phone cameras later this year.

The main reason why you can't see sharp and colorful pictures is may be the album app, the app will adjust colour and sharpness in the picture but it won't change the original picture.

how do you get a 2 day battery life, ive had mine for about a week and I can last a day max..
It's not a bad looking phone. However, it does heat up. And after using the AR feature, the camera shut down because it overheated. Also, it's a power hog, and I'm finding that I have to recharge several times a day. Good performance, it's a worthy upgrade for me from my Xperia ZR. Also, the camera seems to always fail to initialize, making me restart the phone. I'm not impressed with the camera either, as it seems to have a hard time focusing so I always end up with blurry photos, especially with macro shots.

As a SONY fan who owns a z5, I want to say that there are a lot of details in this video talking about the low light shooting noises make me feel empathy, because my z5 is giving me just about the same problems right now. Although I agree with some of the people complaining that GSMarena stands aside with samsung and iphones, I have to say that they are at least telling the truth.
SERIOUS QUESTION. I hope you guys can give me your insights, I am contemplating on what phone to buy, LG G6 or SONY XPERIA XZS (and yes I know XZ Premium is better but I don't have the time to wait, and the camera is the same, about the 4k HDR thing, I really don't see myself using it tbh and I kinda don't like the mirror like design, finger print magnet imo, the SD385 might be good for other games and such but from what I see 820 is good enough for me and it's gonna more expensive) SO, can you please tell me if LG G6 IS BETTER THAN XPERIA XZS? BATTERY LIFE? PERFORMANCE? UI? and AUDIO because tbh these are the things that I'll be concern about in the future. Thanks so much

Sony is the boss of smart phones, I have used xperia Z and now I'm using xperia x performance, its amazing, I love this phone so much, it feels good in the hand,feels premium, its incredibly fast, and yes its 23mp camera is amazing.. I love Sony than any other brands, only few knows the worth of Sony.💕

I see loads of commenters recognizing how bias towards anything Samsung, and against anything Sony this site is. And they are not wrong. This site sucks actually. If Phonearena is Apples fanboy base, GSMA Arena is definitely Samsung fanboy base. S8+ just tested, unbelievable... they didnt find nothing wrong with camera remaining exactly the same, nor the corner softness, nor some benchmarks being lower than last years flags, nor that long display not being used by usual media content at all, nor the 900€ pricetag, I guess if its anything Samsung its worth no matter the pricing... just praise praise praise.

Based on the video, you had battery care on and that restricts charge to 90% of the capacity and shows it as 100%. plus quick charging is disabled to save battery life (in years of use) this information can be found in the battery care section also seen in the video. you must test quick charging with battery care off for realistic quick charging data.. Hope this feedback helps

I have Xperia C5 and it can take pretty impressive pictures. I recently went to Ranthambore trip and images looked like taken by a DSLR..

Why no working fingerprint scanner!?
Heres a theory of the sim restart. If say in the near future Sony phone start lagging for whatever reason, then rebooting it just by removing the sim slot is the same as rebooting it by taking out the removable battery. So im pretty sure it's a fail safe measures. Though the Xperia XZ Premium doesnt have the same fail safe measure as the Xperia XZs according to one hands on video. Still goof to know though.
i dont mean to be picky, but Im always intrigued when reviewers say a device has 2 day battery time or is a 2 day device ,
no one calls the standard galaxy S7 a 2 day device , yet by gsmarenas own rating system the povo s7 model has greater battery life as you would expect , as it has a bigger battery .
if being a 2 day device means using the device sparingly with software economy mode engaged , or just being idle ........ .i just dont find that as good battery life.
if i do that on my old note 4 its a 3.8 day device , and while i love my old note i would rate it very average in the battery department, at the same time it is a galaxy note with 10 sensors and everything that opens and shuts for a 2014 device..
i miss the old design, it looks sharp and unique.
and also i loved the positioning of the fingerprint sensor. my current phone mi8 se has a back fingerprint sensor. sometime it makes me nuts.

why are you complaining about the slow charging if you know it uses qnovo tech? if you want fast charging you can turn it off but then you sacrifice the battery lifespan.

I love the way you guys review this XZ, I don't know, it just feel light, modern and at the same time it's honest, informative and has a storyline... the review is great and the phone as well... yes no doubt that Sony is developing a great phones, it just it's never succed on the market. I mean come on, Sony is the manufacture that build almost all camera sensors on the smartphone that we know, but as you can see the final packaging is always something missing.
but like we know that a succesfull product is not only about the product, there is another factors like brand identity, market segmentation and final packaging. In my oppinion I think Sony need to redefined their Xperia brand identity, starting with properly naming their product lineup and make a clear features differentiation between the flagship and midle end product. After sales service and software update also need to be concern.
For this XZ, the design is gorgeous, but only on the back side, front side is boring and the huge bezels is just not good, also the Sony logo will be better if its move to the back below at the bottom center of the phone. Make the front side more clean, sleek and minimalist...

The only reason why I won't buy this phone is because of the plastic frame. I mean it's such a step backwards for Sony's design language. Back when I had the Z3, it felt so damn premium thanks to it's glass back and aluminum side. I wonder why Sony abandoned these materials.

For me Sony smartphone always look good in real life. It's timeless and classic design.
Sony needs to step up the game. not that it's bad in anyway, but people really got bored of the same design language they've been using since the 1st Xperia Z
Design? S6=S7=S8 3 Generations with the same design only bigger screen. Sony is different, from all glass back to now metal tubular design. Though the front is debatable same as Samsung.
you're correct to some extend. But you can clearly note the difference between s6 & s8.
While, you can't tell the same for Xperia Z or X series smartphones. Don't get me wrong, I love XPERIA, in fact i even owned the z2, z3 & Z6 compact, but i just wish they innovate more , like their tagline says :)

I used Z2, Z3, Z5 Premium and shocked to see the pic samples. Yes there are improvements but sharpness and low light is disappointing still...
The problem is, Sony uses software a lot. Instead of having Camera hardware, they rely on software and hence you can see the software edits in every picture taken. At least I do! Sony should do better than this!
