Motorola RAZR V3xx cellphone- The BEST cellphone ever made!!

  • Motorola RAZR V3xx flip phone - The best cellphone I have ever had, and now it's gone. The cellular carriers discontinuing 3G service (3G shutdown) is what it took to kill this indestructible cellphone. The Razor was introduced in 2003 and was Motorola's best selling device. I can see why. They can go a week or more of regular use between charging, have excellent audio quality, and are practically indestructible. RIP, my faithful friend.
    3G shutdown for the sake of 4G or 5G, I suppose.

    Same thing happened to me and ATT sent a 4G without asking for it (no charge). I still use a flip phone as I don't want a large phone bill and a laptop serves me better than a smart phone. I do what serves me and don't care if people chuckle when they see a flip phone. Good seeing you on a Saturday morning video!

    As a fellow V3xx owner I feel your pain. Mine is a 2006 model and has been absolutely perfect. And like you, was using a Star Tac on 2G before. In Australia 3G gets switched off next year. Not a fan of forced obsolescence!

    I kept my flip phone until 2018, when I was given a hand me down iPhone 5. It felt so modern... and now it's getting shut down too! Not sure what I'll end up with once I finally have to upgrade, but I doubt it'll be another iPhone. Being able to send messages quickly and from anywhere is pretty nice.

    • @ModelA
      @ModelA  2 года назад +4

      Yea, you are right. I'm gonna see how long the Blackberry Bold works before they shut that down too. Mainly because I already have it and the SIM went right in and it worked. After that... Maybe no phone at all. Pager still works.

    Yeah, I agree with your assessment of the Motorola phones, I didn't have a razor, just a flip one. My first was a Nokia, which wasn't bad, but when 2G left us, I got a Motorola. I did that because the company I worked for had them and they got great service. They are AT&T, which is all we can get good reception on, Verizon just doesn't work in our area. So when they sent out the message that they were ending 3G, I picked up a new one, which will handle 4G. What a waste of money and good product, like you said, oh well, we'll just have to deal with it, whether we like it or not. Thanks for sharing, you and Model T have a great Sunday and week ahead.

    Great video! In Romania/Europe we still have access to 2G/3G bands. I'm not sure why here would be different compared to other locations, you need to double check this. The older 2G/3G technologies were removed here as well, but the regulatory authorities announced that the phones operating in these frequencies WILL CONTINUE TO WORK for voice calls, only the internet access was removed. I just switched to a Motorola KRZR K1 for some peace and quiet and detox. Works like a charm, only no internet. Which, under the circumstances, is a bonus. And as opposed to some posts I see here, all the people that notice my phone here are in awe. There is something timeless in this retro clamshell design, plus neat functionality tricks like open to answer and close to end a call. Priceless.

      2G and 3G networks are too expensive to keep running compared to the amount of users in the USA, as most people already have 4G and 5G capable phones, shutting down the lesser used networks reduces operating costs.

It is used extensively in railway signalling on high speed trains (ERTMS) not too sure about 3G or LTE as 4G was never uniformly deployed (fallback to 3G or GPRS) . The cell phone carriers have been discontinuing older types of cell phone networks to free up the frequencies for use on the newer cell phone networks. I ran into this problem because I know a totally blind person. I would find a specialized cell phone for a blind person I know only to have the cell phone carrier discontinue the cell phone network that the phone used. I also ran into this with the car I owned. My 2011 BMW car had a feature called BMW assist that stopped working when an older 2G network was shutdown. It sure seems like Cell Phone carriers want to obsolete old networks to force people to buy new cell phones that work on the newer networks.
