Major pro for the flip phones was that it was WAAY easier to text under the desk. You never had to look down and therefore tip off the teacher. There were only 9 pads, you could feel where you were on the phone and you memorized the letter order pretty quickly It was all muscle memory.

+georgejungismyhero did you have to pay extra for T9? Because if you did then my parents never would have allowed me to buy it. They were reluctant enough giving me a cell phone at the time and wouldn't allow me to buy anything extra for it including ring tones. They also made sure to buy the the cheapest, most basic cell phone at the time, it didn't even have a camera. I was very grateful to have it though I got pretty quick with texting, and of course never texted whole words.

I was born in 1995. I had several flip phones during my elementary school years. Even at the start of middle school. I remember in 3rd grade the Razrs being the coolest phone you could get. Then the Sidekicks became the new fad in 5th grade. And some people could text really fast on these phones. I remember being amazed at this girl in 8th grade being able to text super fast on a flip phone without even looking at the screen. It was truly amazing. The only reason I even had a phone was because I would get them from my uncle's pawn shop store and my parents would get me 'minutes' from these cards at his store. I'd get like 10 dollars worth of minutes a month lol

Well, I'm 16 and most of my phones are smartphones. Although i did have a collection of couple old flip phones and a Sony Ericsson S700i (2 of them are actually belonged to my relatives) but I never used them for calls and text since they doesn't have LTE and therefore are unsupported by carriers and MVNOs. I did planned to get a 4G LTE flip phone but it might take me a while to buy one.
