I miss when cell phones where like this. Companies were making so many different phones then. It was actually fun to go to the store and get a new phone because you never knew what you were gonna get. I remember my Dad used a Razr and I was amazed by that phone.

Back when phones were exciting. The new razr+ 2023 sparked alot of interest in these newer foldables for me. It's the first one in the America's that actually looks like it isn't just a proof of concept. I'm picking it up and I've got that feeling I used to get back in the day. Y'know, when grabbing a new phone actually felt like an upgrade and gave you excitement.

I'm weird, I kept every cell phone I've ever had. One time I plugged one into see if it still worked for the hell of it, and it did! It was pretty surreal reading texts from 12 years ago 📱👀

I think most people keep their old cellphones, what else to do with them? If you don't change phones every year, your old phone is not worth the time and effort to sell.
Also, why would it not work? People have gadgets for 30+ years and they still work.
You are not weird, you are like everyone else.

Yes same here, I got a box with about twenty five or so phone's from the last fifteen or so years, and they really are neat little time capsules for some nosetalgia, reading old Texts, looking at old pictures of friends and family, some that are gone or moved on.

@@AyratHungryStudent I know a few people that just throw them away, or send them to a recycling center, a lot of people I've seen throw them in those recycling boxes that they have at targets and a few other stores that I've seen.

I've also kept some of my old phones(mostly pre Android, and couple backup Android phones) that were not trashed, and had some memories attached to them, but now that Google transfers my text from one phone to the next, along with everything else, it's less of an issue to keep so many of my old phones, and I end up either giving them to family who can use them, recycling them, or donating them to "Cell Phones for Soldiers"

The Razr was my first cellphone back when I was a freshman in high school. When I first saw one I knew I had to have it. It was actually quite practical for school too in that it fit nicely in my pockets without feeling awkward and clunky. It really seemed like the future back then, when phones were getting smaller and thinner. It seemed that the future of phones would eventually culminate to being phones that were essentially a sheet of glass, thin and small. And yeah, just about everyone was carrying Razrs back then. Then the first iPhone came out during my junior year and the paradigm at school shifted wildly. When once upon a time everyone seemed to be carrying Razrs they now all seemingly carried iPhones after its release. It was an interesting time seeing the birth of modern phones as we know them today.
At present I'm waiting for my new Galaxy Z Fold5 to deliver and so I'm taking a waltz through memory lane thinking back on my first phone. The Fold5 kinda reminds me of my old Razr in many ways. Thanks for this video as it was a nostalgic treat. I will have to find my Razr one day, it's boxed away somewhere at my place in some forgotten corner.

My first personal cell phone(Nokia Cingular work phone before that) was the Motorola C139 puck phone on AT&T GO service at 25 cents a min for calls, and 10 cents a page for text, then a Pantech flip I kept for a long time till I was able to afford a Motorola Razr V3 on AT&T GO Phone, I had it for about a year, and loved it, but sadly while on a family friend's boat coming back to shore, and trying to catch the dock, I forgot my Razr V3 was in my front pocket, it started to ring with a work call, it fell out of my pocket, and now sadly to this day it sits at least 100FT down at the bottom of the Savanna River 😔
Far as the new Moto Razr, I would love one, but it's sadly well above what I'm comfortable spending on a cell phone, and after last year being disappointed by the Motorola Moto E/G line moving backwards in specs compared to the Motorola Moto G Power 2020 when my battery started having issues, I moved to a Nokia G50, and have been overall happy sense.

The OS is terrible partially because it was a Verizon model. Back then the carriers had way, way waaaaaaay more control over the phones, and Verizon would force all the phone makers to deploy this same interface on all phones, otherwise they would not allow it on the network. So this same red banner interface would be found on pretty much every verizon network phone sold until smartphones came along and took over. It was super anti-consumer and used to push services that Verizon would make extra on, such as not allowing you to send a picture over bluetooth, forcing you to use picture messaging as the only way to get photos off the phone, which of course, cost extra. If you find an AT&T sim (doesn't even have to be active) you can pop it in the AT&T model and see how motorola designed the UI, it was a lot different.
One of the major reasons the Iphone wasn't on Verizon for several years at the start was Verizon simply didn't want to let Apple control the software, and they wanted to force a bunch of apps and limitations onto the iphone and Apple thankfully said no and went to AT&T.
Eventually Verizon saw the writing on the wall (and lost revenue) they eventually relented and let Apple have their way and worked out a deal.
This stubbornness did have a bright side though, as it caused Verizon to push Motorola to work on an alternative which became the first really successful Android device in the US, the original a855 Droid, so we have Verizon's greed to thank somewhat for being the reason Android didn't die off with the failed T Mobile G1.

*_The RAZR wasn’t my first phone, but it was the first phone I bought with my own money. $200 back in 2005. While the phone was great, my memories of it were more centered around the tech. Wireless technology was changing so fast back then, and people didn’t have the understanding of it like they do today. I remember I had to drive to the city and park in a parking lot to download Doom RPG because it was the only place around that had 2G fast enough to do so. LOL I remember having it sitting on a table and my Uncle asked what it was. I told him it was my phone. Being completely serious, he replied, “No, really… what is it?” He couldn’t believe a phone could be so small. The RAZR really was the iPhone before the iPhone. Everyone either had one or wanted one._*

Many phones I own after #35, I didn't own for very long or I didn't use much. So if you see Nexus 4, HTC One M8, HTC 10, and iPhone 5 that low, it's because I didn't have them for very long. It's not because they're bad phones.
M8 had a defect. HTC 10 was returned after a day. Wrong color. iPhone 5 and iPhone 3G were hand-me-downs I didn't really use. I did rank my Sanyo SCP-5500 and Nokia 3310 higher since I used them for 2 years and was happy with them.
Only the original Pixel ranks high while only owning it for 6 months (Mar-Sept 2017). But I did use it as one of my daily drivers on Verizon next to my Galaxy S7 edge on T-Mobile before selling them both within 3 days.
Thinking of re-buying the Pixel 1 again just for unlimited storage in OG quality but I may go the 13 mini route for 5G and wireless charging or maybe an $80 Pixel 4 I can get from OfferUp.

Jason got more of the commonly popular phones like StarTac, Nokia 3310, and RAZR.
I still do use a Razr and it's the one from 5G. But since moving back to AT&T after 6 years because of ACP, my T-Mobile variant which is unlocked won't work on it. But I take my Razr 5G with me almost daily since it has all of my favorite TV shows. The 2.7" cover display is shaped like a 4:3 TV and is perfect for shows prior to the 2000s.
The new Razr+ looks nice but no longer looks like a Razr anymore.

I was the first one in my family to have a Razr when I was in my 20s and before six months every single family member of mine had also gotten themselves one. It was such a great phone. There is a new version out since 2020 that is a foldable screen, and then like a big smart phone when you pop it open.

    • @CommodoreFan64
      @CommodoreFan64 Год назад

Yes he mentions that in video about the newer foldable Razr models, but they are expensive, the screens are fairly fragile being made of such thin glass, and finding replacement parts can be a bit hard, plus being a bit tricky to work on as shown by Hugh Jefferies who does a lot of repair, and right to repair videos on his channel.

@@CommodoreFan64’s actually insane how expensive it is. There was a low chance I would upgrade from my iPhone 11 as I am so accustomed to IOS, but seeing that the Razr 2022 was just a touch below $2000 opposed to the iPhone 14 Pro Max coming in at just over $1500 AUD, it was a no brainer.
The camera on the Razr 2022 is just mediocre. Razr’s wide angle lenses are not great. Apparenntly the Razr 2022 has the highest megapixel count of smartphones, but despite this, the overall colour depth is not great and the overall phone is not worth 2k asking price.
Apple imo, still has the best phone cameras going around.

@@cbgg1585 I've personally never been an iPhone fan, as I like freedom of choice being able to customize my Android experience, to be able to sideload apps, and use alternative apps markets like F droid on Android(yes I actually do that), and I also don't care too much about the cameras on my phone as long as they are good enough. The most I've ever personally spent on a single phone was about 320 USD for a Motorola Moto G3 with a custom back plate, and case, usually I'm well under 300 USD. with my last phone an unlocked Nokia G50 I got for about 240 USD, and it does everything I need a phone to do, and then some.

@@cbgg1585 What about the new Google Pixel smart phones? It's been said their cameras are supposedly better than iPhones camera technology. I honestly doubt that's possible... Maybe better than the iPhone 15 plus's cameras, but I highly doubt it surpasses the iPhone 15 pro max's cameras, which is in comparison to the likes of professional quality photos and high tech video recording like the stuff movies are made of. If you go to Apples website and read the specks on the camera and video of the new iPhone 15 pro max it's quite impressive.

I never had a Razr, though my mother had a Krzr, which was rather nice. The LG Chocolate, T-Mobile Sidekick II(a re-branded Danger Hiptop), and the phones that would open one way for calls and another way for text messages are the ones I'm most nostalgic about. I'm not really big on cell phones, but these are the ones I remember a lot of people I knew in middle/high school having as their first phone.

..and it can make calls..😊 unfortunately we needed smart phones.

There are plenty of great J2ME games out there and it's probably one of the most underrated libraries. Quite a few AAA games also got demake such as Assassin's Creed or Call of Duty which I've found to be pretty fun.

Never seen one irl, never heard of it either. Not popular in Denmark so I'm guessing not a popular phone in most of Europe. At this point in time in EU, Nokia and Sony Ericsson were the big brands.

@@weeboutthere427 I totally agree with you! WHEN is Apple going to put out something exciting? From the iPhone 6 all the way to the current iPhone 15 very little has changed visually as far as the physical design or shell of the device, for the exception of rounding off the corners one year and squaring them off the following year, then back to the rounded edges design again and so on and so forth. Then they teeter back and forth with the materials from glass to aluminum and back to glass again. I think they threw titanium in the mix a few times, other than that not much as changed, BORING! Unless you're a die hard apple iPhone aficionado, the average person at first glance wouldn't be able to tell if you were holding an iPhone 8 plus from an iPhone 14 pro max, unless the back camera lenses were visable. Black squares is exactly what they are. The Motorola Razr is and always will be iconic & surely was ahead of its time both internally, but mostly by its esthetically pleasing metal design!
