I am self taught and I've been animating for about 5 years now, and animating seriously for almost 4. It started when my cousin appeared with a wacom tablet. I was 10 and it was my first realisation that normal people can just do digital art and animation. After that I got a digital art tablet for my 11th birthday (wacom intous art, medium size) and I've used the same screenless tablet ever since. I started animating on a macbook using a program called 2d paint (dont recommend) the animations were just for fun and I didn't know or care about improvement haha. But in 2019 I decided to make a 4 minute amv for my year long school project, and I actually went through with it (the video is on my alternate youtube channel). it was in 2019 i also discovered you can animate on krita, and the family bought a very crashy pc which I still use to this day (aside from krita, I ended up switching to adobe animate then to CSP which is what I use now). it was in 2018 I was introduced to the wof books, and although I'd known about the warrior cats animation community for a long time, I only discovered the wof animation community in 2019. Before wof i just drew a million toothless pictures lmao. And then I prepared to start this channel in late 2019 and the planning went right into early 2020 which is when i eventually started my channel. When I started my channel is when I got more serious, but I've always been really ambitious in what I animate. I am still completely self taught but I want to go to a university that teaches 2d animation- of which there is only one in the whole of New Zealand. There was nobody to teach me animation where I am so I resorted to teaching myself by first of course, learning the 12 principles of animation, and branching out to whatever I wanted to learn at the time from there. I'm really glad to have this youtube channel because the support and the motivation I get from it is so so so helpful. Sorry for literally telling you my whole animation life story but I hope it was in some way inspiring?? haha

hahahaha framerate actually has very little to do with an animation being smooth, if thats what you mean. I animate with a timeline of 24 fps, but the amount of frames i use are very inconsistent, sometimes its on twos, sometimes on threes, sometimes on ones- its because I move frames around and modify the timing/spacing to see if I can improve the visual. Sorry if this makes little sense haha
@@archrieka Sorry for responding a whole month late, but I have a few general tips for improving faster! firstly, passion and self control. Its vital to be able to get yourself animating even when you dont particularly feel like it. animating regularly helps with improvement a LOT. If you can learn to take enjoyment in the learning process, like a sport athlete might take enjoyment from their training, then you will feel much more brighter about improving! Heres some more technical ways to help: Set a variety of solid goals. You can have a fee distant big ones, but its important to focus on the smaller and achievable goals. Set a goal like: learn to use a certain type of smear frames, or a goal like gaining understanding of the animation principle of arcs! Setting smaller goals that you could literally do right now is really good for motivating yourself as well as giving you solid steps to constant improvement. Going over the 12 principles of animation multiple times is great if youve run out of ideas for new goals. Another thing that helped me improve was getting a professional animators action scene (a cut of yutaka nakamuras work on my her academia) and putting it up on a seperate screen. Then i put the youtube video on the slowest it goes and then paused and played, drawing each frame I thought was important (not every frame or i would have been there forever haha) it was a really good exercise that helped me use my animation brain when guessing how far apart each frame should be, since i wasnt drawing every frame, and also with a series of other things like learning to draw impact frames, when to use them, etc. I dont recommend actually tracing an animators work, because it cuts down the thinking you have to do in half, and its that thinking that helps you gain an amazing amount of knowledge. Make sure you choose a proffessional animator by the way! you dont want to end up adopting a non professional animators mistakes. Thats all I got off the top of my head, good luck animating! I use clip studio paint ex, its a program you pay for- if you plan to get it i recommend waiting till on of its 50% off sales they do it a few times each year (I only recommend pc version though!) But for beginners I recommend adobe animate or Krita (krita is free) I dont have any recommendations for ipad users I'm afraid
