"But it works, and it grooves, so who cares." -Uncle Beatdown
Listen to this man. He speaks wisdom. ☝️😐
"what you gonna do is just take a practice pad and practice, thats all"
after watching Anderson Paak sing while laying down fast single hand 16ths, this is the video I need
Yea that dudes technique is ridiculous.....The singing overtop of his beats is just mind blowing. Band wants to cover one of his tunes, I’m nowhere near able haha
Gotta learn to play come down😂
i came from the exact same place lmao
DUDE SAME
same
I never realized how fast The Funky Drummer is until I tried to play those 16ths at 97bpm which is the speed on the original.
I'd seen a video of Ringo playing VERY Fast One-Handed *Shuffle* Singles on the hi-hats not long ago! While singing and smiling and making it look totally effortless! 😳 AND he's left-handed! 🤯
Dude you're like my favourite drum teacher on RUclips. I just bought a kit and practice every night with the ipad next to the kit. I'm learning a lot from your videos.
Wow. A HH-singles video with actual advice instead of "start slow" or "okay now just speed it up and you're done".
Tbf that's still real solid advice haha.
lol fr it felt like a risk but then i remembered its rob
I'd like to see you break down songs, like Rick Beato does with what makes this song great, but from the drummers perspective. He's a guitarist, primarily, so it's different POV.
Nate Smith likes to sneak an open hi hat stomp in between beats every now and then too. It's a great trick to take some pressure off your right hand and also let's you reset yourself in the groove. Great lesson ... thanks, Rob!
Mr. Brown is the kinda guy I would just love to hang out with, talk drums, talk music, watch a movie, play pool, etc. He is just so down to Earth on top of being super talented.
I love the way you explain how to actually play. Breaking down stuff that looks simple and it's actually complicated is not easy.
Wow that intro bit was so freaking great. I would love to see a full song based around that groove.
Best 16th notes on the hi-hat video I've ever watched, and I watched many. I've been struggling with this for months, couldn't break the 77 BPM barrier. This video sorted it out for me in a few minutes! I just wish I saw it earlier...
Thanks for the video Rob,you always seem to get videos of things no one else delves into 🥁👍
love it, thank you Rob
Great lesson Rob! Your perspective on this technique is well received.
as always, top shelf instruction from Beatdown. killer techniques sir.
Thank you Rob. I need to try some of that. Very timely and useful video. 👍
Great lesson as always! Really like your playing style and dig the way you teach. Grabbed a few items from your merch shop to show support for your channel...nice merch! Thanks for the wonderful videos, they have really been inspiring and uplifting during these crazy times. Your lessons have had a significant impact on my drumming, thanks a million!
Oooohhh! This is really amazing to see and hear.
I've been searching for a tutorial like this for so long! Thank you so much!!
Thanks dude, this helped me SO MUCH
Very helpful, thanksss!
The slow motion bit sorted an issue for me straight up! Thanks a bunch. Your channel is brilliant.
Wow you're movements are smooth and talk about funk groove you got it nailed keep up the great work my new friend
Great teaching and great quality drumming.. without being overbearing.. just subscribed to your channel to support you.. look forward to going through your video catalog..
Your videos are so useful, thank you!
That's what i need it Rob! Very well explained! Thanks!
Really nice, Rob - I’ve been playing a long time, but it’s great to see different approaches done so clearly, thanks!
Thanks Rob ...I really love your teaching...you have a gift 🙏
Wow, that is so simple, but so effective!
Thanks, Rob.
Hey Rob, just wanted to thank you for your clear, direct and upbeat teaching style. I agree with some other comments that the slow motion video and the side angle really helped demonstrate the mechanics being used. This technique has been a game changer for me, and is improving other areas of playing including hand speed, a heightened sense of the nuances in my grip, and other things like the 4-stroke ruff.... There's so much bleed over in everything we practice in drumming, it's really empowering. So, again...THANK YOU!!!
Excellent as always - Was actually working on this today - have the first technique down-ish - the second I'll start working on Tomorrow ! Many Thanks !
Thanks for the technical breakdown! As always, great video!
Both you and Jordan are such killer drummers! The best!
Great video playing open with weak hand on the HaHat this will help a lot!!
Thank you for the sharing.... I am still practicing but this is really helpful...
Brilliant video, thanks Rob! You've given me so much help down the years and I'm so grateful.
Two lessons in one video! That finger control is so cool. Thanks Rob
Heiy Rob! this lesson was really very useful for me, thank you very much, see you next time bye
Fantastic lesson, Rob ! Thank you :D
Thanks for all the help. Drumming for a year and you have always been there. Great shirt...have to get one. Up in Canada eh!
Thank you! I'm a newer drummer, and playing the hi-hat quickly and efficiently is one of my first real hang-ups. There are so many little things I wasn't aware of until I watched this. Thanks for such great visual tips in a language I can understand!
@ Rob Brown,
That is bloody amazing, I struggled at first, but it makes perfect sense!
Thanks, mate.
Yo Rob !Love your content;teaching is simple and also your tuning techniques obtainable👍
Keep doing what you do!
May God continue to bless you in these endeavors 😇
Fantastic explanation on the 16th note techniques!!
Great lesson as allways. Thanks Rob !
Rob thank you, the way you teach is just great and unique. Many many thanks. You are a true master
Thanks Rob for your great teaching
Hi. I’m watching your videos from Paris France always with a huge interest . You’re a great player and teacher as well. Thanks a lot for your work.
very helpful lesson...excellent teacher and drummer!
Rob I always learn something from you that improves my drum playing. Thank you.
Really great lesson. In such a casual way, you've masterfully demystified what was a frustrating mystery!
Your slowed down careful explanation and demonstrations accompanied by excellent camera angles are GOLDEN and second to none. Always the BEST! And you topics are always super on target. Keep up beatin' down !
Had trouble doing this for years. This video actually is the reason I was able to play Midnight Rider by Alman Bros at my last gig. Practiced his instructions for about a week and I had it totally nailed! THANK YOU ROB!!

Great lesson Beat Down !
Hi Rob: This is such a great lesson. I love the fact you stress to practice without injury. I am an older guy and blew out my left wrist a year ago trying to hard to build up. I always heard "no pain, no gain!". Not so with wrists!!!! Thanks so much for this video and your commitment to helping others with their goals.
Thanks for this great instruction. Super!
Nice dude! Thanks so much!
Many thanks for this lesson, Rob...it’s so nice to see techniques and tips presented in such a professional and detailed manner with a complete lack of ego (other on-line drum instructors please note!). Keep ‘em coming...
nice tutorial. Thank you so much!
Yes...thank you for this! It's similar to a Moeller move I guess. Thanks so much 😊
Very tasty! Real nice Rob! Thanks man!
BTW, your video on using fingers behind the fast double stroke and single stroke rolls really helped me. It's been a while since I watched it, but your advice has brought my chops up tremendously.
As usual great lesson. I also noticed to do this on my rig I had to adjust my Hat higher and that made a world of difference. If any of your other students have trouble with it they may want to think about raising their Hat height as well.
Youre the man Rob. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
u have a video for every question i have for drumming, best drumming channel ever!
Thank you for a great lesson man!
Thanks so much Rob. I really enjoy your videos. I’m actually totally blind and the way you explain everything works perfect for someone like me who can’t watch the technique play out in slow motion on the screen. Very much appreciated my man. Your descriptions and analogies are perfect for me to conceptualise what it is We are trying to do.
finally a vid with slow motion, thanks for sharing. easily see what im doing wrong now
Thanks rob great lesson as always thankyou
Great lesson for 1 hand 16beat! Thanks my idol!
Just what I needed! Thanks!
Smooth grooves. You're real good at explaining the techniques in layman terms.
The groove is strong in this one master Luke, Rob 'Beatdown' Brown my Man!
Rob you are the best learning allot from your you tube channel thanks man .your awesome
Mr. Beatdown, I'm 58 where were you when I was a kid lol... Thank you, what you teach is most helpful keep up the great work Rob. ✌
The best instruction❤
Thank you so much rob! I was trying to speed up my 16ths for new breed book exercises. Forced it, I injured myself. I was trying so many techniques, almost gave up, until I saw your vid. Worked immediately and without any discomfort. "Tension as a tool, not as a technique"
Thx you so much for this excellent video!!!! Very helpfull!!! Stay healthy!!! Greetings from germany Christoph 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍
Awesome tips. Thanks
That slow down/speed up close up at 8:25 was super helpful! Thank you!
Cool 😎🤘🏽
@@RobBeatdownBrown dude you unlocked my brain with that shot. Love you Rob stay safe!
Love this lesson Mr B. Ive been trying to work these 16th for nearly 2 months. Ain't got close. Will be on the pad/kit in the AM giving these methods a crack. Please re do your jazz to hip-hop vid. With more detail on the counting. Nearly one year, still cant get it. And, it is still is my favourite utube lesson by any teacher/drummer. The flow is so beautiful. Cheers and thanks.
You’re a good job. Thanks
So great!
Awesome! seems easier than muscle it up, thanks!
Great advice. Thanks for posting.
Great explanation!
Whatever you are doing to get the job done without hurting yourself do it. This is the best teacher ever! I still lead left my on double time 16th note hats.
Thanks Rob, very interesting as always. Excellent job!
Thanks much 🙂✌🏽
This is the best RUclips video I’ve seen on this….well done!
Good voice. It is easy to follow the lesson
Brilliant Video ! I personally use Push Pull for fast 16ths on Skank Beats, Blast or just basic groove; if i want some accents i use Moeller :)
Great video!
Thank you man!!
Love your lessons, Rob! Regards from the UK. :)
Best teacher ever. :)
Once I got comfortable with this technique I can now play Wrathchild and Hallowed Be Thy Name right handed (the way Clive played them) instead of hand to hand. This video has opened me up to a brave new world. Awesome tutorial Rob, thanks!
One thing I think I need to do after watching this is drop my hi-hats down a little. Great lesson. Thank you
Awesome just starting after many years.I love how great you explsin things Im a grandmother getting bsck to what I love! thanks
That’s awesome. Glad the videos are helping!
