4K UHD Version: • Illinois State Song wi...
By thy rivers gently flowing, Illinois, Illinois,
O'er thy prairies verdant growing, Illinois, Illinois,
Comes an echo on the breeze.
Rustling through the leafy trees, and its mellow tones are these, Illinois, Illinois,
And its mellow tones are these, Illinois.
From a wilderness of prairies, Illinois, Illinois,
Straight thy way and never varies, Illinois, Illinois,
Till upon the inland sea,
Stands thy great commercial tree, turning all the world to thee, Illinois, Illinois,
Turning all the world to thee, Illinois.
When you heard your country calling, Illinois, Illinois,
Where the shot and shell were falling, Illinois, Illinois,
When the Southern host withdrew,
Pitting Gray against the Blue, There were none more brave than you, Illinois, Illinois,
There were none more brave than you, Illinois.
Not without thy wondrous story, Illinois, Illinois,
Can be writ the nation's glory, Illinois, Illinois,
On the record of thy years,
Abraham Lincoln's name appears, Grant and Logan, and our tears, Illinois, Illinois,
Grant and Logan, and our tears, Illinois.
--
In verse four, "Grant" refers to General and 18th President of the United States Ulysses S. Grant. Grant made his family home Galena Illinois in 1860. Following the Civil War Grant lived in Galena until his election as President in 1868. Grant last visited Galena in 1880.
Also in verse four, "Logan" refers to General John Alexander Logan who was born in Murphysboro, Jackson County, Illinois. Logan served in the Civil War attaining the rank of Brigadier General. After the war Logan was a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1867 to 1871, and of the United States Senate from 1871 until 1877 and again from 1879 until his death in 1886. His concern for veterans led him to take part in Illinois' first organized veterans memorial services at Woodlawn Cemetery in Carbondale in 1866. In 1868, he helped found Memorial Day as a national holiday.
Going home soon because I miss the kind people and greenery and water.
Illinois, proud to call it my home.

One of my home states. I've lived here 31 years and in WI 30 years. Twelve years elsewhere. Illinois is where I married my wife. She is an Illinoian. This is where my daughter was born. This is my home.

I'm a retired academic staff from the UIUC. I made this shooting three somewhat separated days. The first and second shoots were at the University owned park. They were not made for any particular pupose. The third day off shooting was done on campus after I had decided what I wanted to make. It had no purpose other than a work of art that depicts where I live and worked.
I have, had, a beautiful mom, and grandparents, who will forever be the cornerstone, of who I am, and they raised me, here, on the rich farmland of Illinois, and the vibrant city, of Chicago.
My home state :)
Beautiful school
I’m so proud of my state :’’)
Thanks so much. I had a project on Illinois. It really is a beautiful song.
Gives me the chills😊
I agree, greatest state, I'm thinking of those it reared..
I ❤ Illinois. Seeeee you sooon. 🧡
The first time I heard this arrangement (which is about as different from the original as possible), I rejected it. But this is actually quite beautiful and moving in its own way. Definitely much more contemplative and thought provoking from the original song.

Down by the Mississippi where the Rock River flows,
There's a little piece of land where EVERYTHING grows,
Rock Island-Rock Island-Illinois.
With the body of a woman and the soul of a man,
She's still doin' the best she can,
Livin' in the memory of a Southern Man,
She's a Mississippi Valley Lady.
And, she's a musical about the hearty healthy humans FROM
Illinois-Especially , about the great ladies of the valley-
She ain't no valley girl-She's a LADY

I love Illinois. It will always be my home. It's just the corrupt state government that makes it hard to live there.
I can agree --- I'm not about to get shot walking in the streets!! :(
@FlareMartain That is the "Sun Singer" statue in Allerton Park near Monticello, Illinois at :40 -- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Allerton_Park
Holy shit finally... I found it
Illinois, the greatest state in the U.S. of A.
NJS No it is best
Admiral Garbage You obviously don't live there
I'm literally just liking this because you're username is Admiral Garbage and Illinois is Garbage.
Admiral Garbage Birthplace of Akiane 💃🤗🙄
Illinois is terrible.
I would have come all the way down mom and dad, but I forgot my needed heart medicine now. So I'm kind of on a leash. Hope you saw me in the area though. 👌
@cheke99 me too! AWKWARD! We didn't get hit. Illinois is just a peaceful state, but legislators just ruining it.
Forever 21
Never heard this version. Very different melody. Interesting, but I like the popular one better.
ILLINOISIANS RISE UP 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
The state song of Illinois IS in a minor key!
Its what makes it hauntingly beautiful
50% of Illinois residents would move to a different state if they could, more than any other, according to a new Gallup poll. I grew up in the 'burbs and am so glad to live in Alaska now.
I don't know the exact demographics of the state. However, I would think that 50% of the states residents live in Cook County. I am doubting that you would get those same numbers in Carbondale. Glad you found a place you like. Feel free to stay there.
I've lived in both Carbondale and Chicago. While our state and local government isn't always what we want it to be, I love every inch of our beautiful state! From downtown Chicago to the beauty of the Shawnee Forest, we are blessed with a wide range of sites to see, and an abundance of good, caring people.
Janet Barker-Evans Downstate is tolerable... but Chicago and Springfield are a hot mess.
That depends on what part of the state you live in. I've heard very few make that claim that they'd move. For someone to say there is no beauty to Illinois is blind and stubborn. We have the worst politicians imaginable, but her people are some of the best you'll find anywhere.
chersch5 as a Chicagoian who would never abandon this state, I agree
this is so like idk!!!
dont joke bout chicago. my family was born and raisied. what if your move there.
TRICK
the only good thing about illinois is the state song.
before you get mad, i've lived in illinois for my entire life (albeit short)
@TravisKoogler96 Why do you say that? This is not the original arrangement; perhaps you would like the original. If you are from Illinois, this song is great. I guess if you aren't from Illinois, you just don't get it.
Bible verse, being modest in conduct..... 🤗
Needed more pictures of canadian geese lol
Interesting arrangement. However, I’m sorry to say this is NOT the melody of the original anthem written in 1890…which is what I was expecting when ran across this video.
@TravisKoogler96 Scratch that. I just checked your profile and it is clear to me why YOU don't like this song.
Wisconsin had an ugly heart. It didn't matter when God looked upon it. HE SAW THE TRUTH, AND HE LOVED MY FAMILY
Its a pretty state with beautiful towns but the people here are as cold as the climate.
Makes me miss home so much. AZ is a shitehole. Get me outta this mess.
For some reason people seem to think that people that live in prairie states are stupid and talk all country like. No ok. that is not true!
I grew up singing this in music every year in elementary school. I've NEVER heard this tune . . . not very pretty, and it's not the tune we were taught. (I'm 62 now, and we had to memorize all 50 states, their capitals, the preamble to the U.S. Constitution; the Declaration of Independence; the Gettysburg Address, etc. I don't think any of those things are taught now.)
Yea, illinois suck and all, & Chicago, well sucks to, I still love it here.
wv is the most pea full state
Ill noise! The choir is good... the state anthem sucks. Never did like it.
Tgis is NOT the right tune.
this is not how the state song sounds at all. I do not like this arraingement at all
