My mother kept us in church, a good bible believing church all my life, but most of my friends were Catholic and truly cared nothing about God. In fact when I asked them why they did or did not do certain things, they would always hide behind catholicism saying... Because, I'm Catholic.
These two verses probably saved my life and from following my friends:
    Matthew 6:7
    King James Version
7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
(This is all I would hear when I would go to church with them, was vain, repetitious prayer, always read, never from the heart)
    1 Timothy 2:5
    5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
    (Not Mary)

Again, another post that leads off with a ridiculous comment. So many posts have this common thread. So many lead with a ridiculous comment.
I am now quoting from you " ... most of my friends were Catholic and truly cared nothing about God" end quote.
Can you see how foolish this is. You are clearly in a discussion group that will take all and every opportunity to bash the Catholic church. This discussion has been started by John MacArthur a well known provocateur and agent of slander to a number of religions - so you are speaking to a largely agreeable audience when you bash the Catholic Church. However, I caution you that even they will fault your ridiculous comments.
In conclusion, I respectfully suggest that if you wish to make large claims you will need to provide large proof. Especially when you are slandering believers in a faith group that is the larges Christian denomination in the world. If majority plus one were the order of the day - we would win hands down ..
      Peace be with you.

Well, I would certainly say that the Bible, the most sold book in the world, and the very words of God is pretty much proof, but it's something you really should research on your own. Not just believe what you are told. If God said it and you don't like it, I suggest you take it up with him. Catholicism is not the same as Christianity. I quoted the Bible, not myself.

His hateful and religiously intolerant commentary is the currency of his ministry. As expected from the invitation of this post 'heresy of the Mass' he has received many comments from like minded individuals, calling out the Catholic religion.

This was not judgmental. It was a true statement. These were my friends, when I was younger, I did not judge them, just saying, they had no relationship with God on a personal level. And they were ok with that. I still loved them and did not judge them. I'm just saying most of my Catholic friends and family even today are only taught repetitious prayers and pray to Mary. If I go to a wedding or funeral of one of my Catholic friends or family members, never do they pull out a Bible and read scriptures. Usually something someone else has written and very repetitive. Just an observation.

Here is a sample of what the Calvinist Huguenots did to Catholics in the religious wars in France. They entered the Catholic churches, overturned the altars, tramled the eucharist undertheir feet, drank from consecrated chalices, smeared their shoes with holy oil, defiled church vestments with excrement, threw books into the fire and destroyed the icons. They assaulted and massacred the Catholic clergy in the very discharge of their saced functions with cries of Kill the priests, In France alone the Calvinists destroyed 20,00 Catholic churches. They pillaged andbdemolished monasteries and hodpitals. The monks at Chartres were all murdered. In Dauphiny alone they murdered 255 priests, 112 monks and destroyed 900 towns and villages!

This is perhaps the most sustained critique of the formal doctrine of Protestantism, Sola Scriptura, in print that I am aware of. All the "proof-texts" are exegeted carefully, including 1 Cor 4:6, 2 Tim 3:16-17, Rev 22:18-19, Rom 15:4, Acts 17:11, and Isa 8:20. There is also an appendix discussing important patristic-era authors and how they did not function in a way commensurate with the doctrine/practice of Sola Scriptura and the formal sufficiency of the bible (e.g., Irenaeus of Lyons). I also discuss texts and arguments one should *not* use against this doctrine, such as the (false) claim there are 30,000+ Protestant denominations.
When one is finished reading this volume, one will be equipped to be able to answer all possible biblical "proofs" for the formal sufficiency of the Bible as well as discuss the overwhelming exegetical problems with this doctrine. Furthermore, any Protestant reading this volume will, on the basis of biblical exegesis, be forced to reconsider their adherence to this man-made doctrine, though they will find the tone of this volume respectful and scholarly.

Leaving the Fold: Testimonies of Former Fundamentalists Hardcover - January 1, 1995

Protestant fundamentalism claims many converts each year as the devout serve as "witnesses" to draw people "into the fold." This is where the media hype stops. Little is known of the thousands who leave, frustrated, anguished, confused. For them there are no trumpets of glory, no energized fanfare.
No one knows fundamentalism like a fundamentalist, and no one can express what it means to struggle with one's faith to the breaking point, like an ex-fundamentalist.
After presenting a fascinating history of "Fundamentalism's Grotesque Past," this riveting new collection offers testimonies of former fundamentalists who became so disillusioned with their church that they chose to leave. Presenting more than thirty personal journeys, this book gives a clear picture of what attracts a person to the fundamentalist faith and what can drive believers away from their religion.
Leaving the Fold includes the religious odysseys of those who left fundamentalism behind in favor of atheism or agnosticism, as well as the spiritual journeys of those who remained Christians but backed away from the powerful attraction of fundamentalism. These testimonies convey not only deep feelings and penetrating facts, but the appeal of dogmatic fundamentalism and each individual's struggle to maintain their faith.
Leaving the Fold discusses the fears and dilemmas faced by each person who chose to part ways with the church, their gradual dawning of courage to continue asking questions, and their success in giving their intellectual curiosity the freedom it craves. Christians, atheists, and those who may be questioning their own religious convictions will find Leaving the Fold engrossing. This volume also contains a collection of quotations and an annotated bibliography for those interested in tracking down further testimonies.

Salvation by (works (7sacraments) +faith) was never in the Bible. Real salvation is by grace through faith as seen in Bible. 11. Rosary, set repetitive prayers, hail Mary 10000 times12. Catholic church changed Bible verse Gen 3:15 (And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel."). 'He' and 'His' referring to Christ.
Catholics changed it to (Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; She shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise Her heel.") 'She' and 'Her' refers to Mary. 22. Catholic Church use Rev 12 to refer to Mary as 'queen of heaven', when Rev 12:6 clearly refers to Israel escaping the Great Tribulation. Mary cannot be alive to escape the Great Tribulation. 23. Catholic Church refers to Mary as 'Queen of heaven', but 'Queen of Mary' in the Bible is a demonic entity Astoreth or Ishtar, the female deity partner of Baal. 5 verses in Jeremiah as proof.24. Catholic church refers to Mary as the Mediatress, Co redemptress, helper of Christ, firstborn of all creation ..
Mary cannot be the mediatress. Jesus is the one and only Mediator between God and man. Only Jesus redeems. Only the Holy Spirit is the Helper sent by Jesus. Only Jesus is the firstborn of all creation. 25. Roman Catholicism has “saints” one can pray to in order to gain a particular blessing. For example, Saint Gianna Beretta Molla is the patron saint of fertility. Francis of Assisi is the patron saint of animals. There are multiple patron saints of healing and comfort.
Nowhere is even a hint of this taught in Scripture. Just as the Roman pantheon of gods had a god of love, a god of peace, a god of war, a god of strength, a god of wisdom, etc., so the Catholic Church has a saint who is “in charge” over each of these and many other categories. Many Roman cities had a god specific to the city, and the Catholic Church provided “patron saints” for cities as well.26. Mary is called the gate of heaven? Mary has keys to paradise?
Here are roman pagan teachers saying their man made goddess is their savior. None of these quotes have been denounced, on the contrary they are cited.
"Open to us, O Mary, the gate of Paradise, since you have its keys! " St. Ambrose
"God has entrusted the keys and treasures of Heaven to Mary." St. Thomas Aquinas
"No one can enter into Heaven except through Mary, as entering through a gate. " St. Bonaventure
"Mary is called "The Gate of Heaven" because no one can enter Heaven but through her means." St. Alphonsus Maria Liguori

According to the Bible, God may allow temporal punishment to remain after remitting the eternal penalty for sin for a number of reasons, including:
      Teaching lessons
Negative consequences can help people learn about the wrongness of their actions. People tend to learn from their mistakes more than their successes.
      Discipline
God disciplines his children for his good, so that they may share his holiness. If God never disciplined his children, he would not be a good father.
      Showing love
God allows us to experience some of the temporal consequences of sin to show his love for us.
Some examples of temporal punishment include David's infant son dying, the sword passing through David's house, and Moses not being allowed to go into the promised land.

No, early Church Fathers did not believe in sola scriptura, or scripture alone, but rather that Scripture and tradition should be considered together. They believed that Scripture should be read and interpreted through the lens of tradition, and that there was a need to test the accuracy of interpretations.
Here are some other things to know about the early Church Fathers' beliefs:
      Scripture's meaning
The early Church Fathers believed that Scripture had multiple layers of meaning, and that Jesus Christ could be seen throughout the Bible, even in the Old Testament.
      Interpretation
The early Church used the practices of ancient literary scholars to interpret Scripture, including grammar, language, rhetoric, and style.
      Salvation
The early Church Fathers believed that salvation is achieved through faith and love, as demonstrated by works and obedience to the law.

What the Bible says about the Roman Catholic Church.
The church has a single man (the Pope) acting and speaking for the whole body, fulfilling Daniel 7:8.
“And there, in this horn (kingdom), were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking pompous words.”
Pope Pius IX said “I alone… am the successor of the apostles, the vicar of Jesus Christ. I am the way, the truth, and the life…” (Source: History of the Christian Church, by Henry Charles Sheldon, p. 59.)
Pope Boniface VIII said “We declare, say, define, and pronounce, that it is absolutely necessary for the salvation of every human creature to be subject to the Roman Pontiff.” (Source: Bull “Unam Sanctum,” as cited in “Apostolic Digest, Book V: The Book of Obedience”)
Current Pope Francis I said “You cannot find Jesus outside the Church.” (Source: EWTN Global Catholic News, pronounced on April 23 in the Apostolic Palace’s Pauline Chapel.)
In John 14:6, Jesus declared that salvation is through Him only and not through any man,
“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

We do not have manuscripts of the Septuagint old enough to settle the question of what was in the Greek Old Testament at any one date with certainty. Besides, the canon of the Old Testament may have been somewhat fluid in the second century BC.

@@stevehardwick7285You ask "Did the Apostles eat the actual body and blood of Jesus"? Let’s start with 1 Corinthians 10:16-21. Paul makes it clear that when we partake of the Eucharist we partake of the body and blood of Jesus; The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ? (v.16).
Furthermore, three times in 1 Corinthians 11:27-30 Paul uses language that shows he believes the Eucharist is literally Jesus and not a mere symbol. The first example is Paul’s use of homicidal language in his instruction on receiving the Eucharist worthily: "Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord" (v.27).
      Ignatius of Antioch A.D. 110
“I have no taste for corruptible food nor for the pleasures of this life. I desire the bread of God, which is the flesh of Jesus Christ . . . and for drink I desire his blood, which is love incorruptible” (Letter to the Romans 7:3 [A.D. 110]).
“Take note of those who hold heterodox opinions on the grace of Jesus Christ which has come to us, and see how contrary their opinions are to the mind of God. . . . They abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer because they do not confess that the Eucharist is the flesh of our Savior Jesus Christ, flesh which suffered for our sins and which that Father, in his goodness, raised up again. They who deny the gift of God are perishing in their disputes” (Letter to the Smyrnaeans 6:2-7:1 [A.D. 110]).

      CATHOLIC TRUTH
We are living in a time of great confusion, corruption, and loss of faith. Atheism, skepticism, and cynicism are on the rise, and many people are hurting, broken, and have fallen away from God. We are in dire need of Truth! God has given us that truth through His Son Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church. We exist to be a beacon of light in this present darkness, a clear voice of reason in this age of confusion, and a leader in forming and inspiring Catholics.
      OUR MISSION
Catholic Truth is a non-profit ministry dedicated to proclaiming the one truth of Jesus Christ and His Catholic Church. Through apologetics, spirituality, media and ministry, our goal is to help Catholics to know, love and live their faith with purpose and passion, to be set on fire by it and to be transformed by our Lord Jesus Christ. We also seek to draw non-Catholics and fallen away Catholics back to the fullness of truth.
      ABOUT US
Catholic Truth is unapologetically Catholic and 100% faithful to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. We are a trusted resource for Catholics and those seeking. Anyone, from anywhere, from any religion can come here to discover exactly what the Catholic Church teaches, and why, and how this truth can transform our lives. We exist to accompany Catholics on their journey of faith, helping them to truly grow both spiritually and personally, and to find transformation and fulfillment in Christ Jesus our Lord. We pledge to defend our faith with clarity and charity and teach others to do so.

Heb 4:1 Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it.
Heb 4:2 For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.
Heb 4:3 For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said: "SO I SWORE IN MY WRATH, 'THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST,' " although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
    Heb 4:4 For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: "AND GOD RESTED ON THE SEVENTH DAY FROM ALL HIS WORKS";
Heb 4:5 and again in this place: "THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST."
Heb 4:6 Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience,
Heb 4:7 again He designates a certain day, saying in David, "TODAY," after such a long time, as it has been said: "TODAY, IF YOU WILL HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS."
Heb 4:8 For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day.
Heb 4:9 There remains therefore a rest for the people of God.
Heb 4:10 For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.
Heb 4:11 Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience.

If you dig deep enough, you will find we believe the same things as you do. Protestants are simply non practicing Catholics and we pray for them constantly, Globally.
Catholics believe that glory goes to God alone. This belief is often summarized in the phrase "Soli Deo Gloria," which is one of the five solae or slogans of the Protestant Reformation but is also a concept that is consistent with Catholic theology.
In Catholicism, the doctrine of the First Commandment, "You shall have no other gods before me," emphasizes the absolute priority and supremacy of God. Catholics believe in the worship of the one true God, and all glory, honor, and worship are ultimately directed toward Him. This is expressed in the liturgy, prayers, and teachings of the Catholic Church.
While Catholics honor and venerate saints, angels, and the Virgin Mary, they do not believe these beings are gods or equal to God. Instead, they believe in the intercession of saints and the Blessed Virgin Mary as intermediaries between humanity and God. Ultimately, however, all glory and worship are offered to God alone, as He is considered the source and end of all things in Catholic theology.

A couple of comments, what you describe in your opening comment as 'Pastor John boldly preaches the truth .. " The only thing that this windbag is preaching is slander and hate to incite dissent and rile up his followers in his air conditioned assembly hall as he wags his finger and spews vitriol from his lectern. He would'nt know the truth if he fell over it. From whom did the windbag ' the world is less than ten thousand years old 'MacArthur receive the authority to interpret Scripture? Who could possibly believe anything from the windbag who has opently declared his belief that our world is less than ten thousand years old' If you can be that wrong on the firs tbook and first verse of the Bible how could you possibly think that he's right on anything else in the Bible.
In conclusion, the windbag in the tailored Italian suit at the air conditioned lectern is as far removed from the reality of doing God's work as he could be. Only MacArthur and Kenneth Copeland, Jim and Tammy Faye .. and many more 'preachers' raking in millions from their gullible faithful followers by waving the Holy Book in the air. MacArthur however takes his vitriol and contempt to a level that is hateful .. as in the case of this post " Heresy of the Catholic Mass' ..
How many of the Apostles were multi-millionaires? How many of the Apostles only preached on a part time basis in air conditioned assembly halls ?
'the world is less than ten thousand yearl old' MacArthur windbag is a hateful, inciteful little man.

James 2:17. This verse is often cited in discussions about the relationship between faith and works in the context of salvation. It's important to understand that the Catholic Church, like many Christian denominations, recognizes the importance of both faith and works in the life of a believer.
In Catholic theology, faith and works are seen as complementary components of salvation, not as contradictory elements. Here's how Catholics understand this verse:
Works of Charity: The "works" that Jesus and James are speaking of can include acts of charity and love towards others. Catholics believe that genuine faith should manifest itself in concrete actions of love and service to others. These actions may include feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visiting the sick, and caring for the marginalized, as taught by Jesus in Matthew 25:31-46.
Obedience to God's Commands: Works also encompass obedience to God's commands as revealed in Scripture and through the teachings of the Church. This involves living a life in accordance with God's moral and ethical principles, avoiding sin, and striving for holiness. It includes participating in the sacraments, attending Mass, and adhering to the Ten Commandments.
Faith and Works Together: Catholics emphasize that faith and works are not in opposition but are interconnected. Faith is the foundation of salvation, but it is not a passive belief; it should motivate a person to live a life in accordance with God's will. Works are the natural result of living out one's faith.
Cooperation with God's Grace: Catholics believe that salvation is a cooperative effort between God's grace and human response. Faith is the means by which we accept God's grace, and works are the expression of our response to that grace.
In essence, the "works" that Jesus and James speak of are those actions, both of charity and obedience, that reflect a living and active faith. They are evidence of a genuine relationship with God. The Catholic perspective is that faith and works are intertwined, working together to bring about the transformation and sanctification of the believer. Faith without works is seen as incomplete and "dead" because it lacks the fruit of a genuine, living faith.

"STUDY to show yourselves approved unto God, a WORKman

written by Justin Martyr in 155 AD And on the day called Sunday, all who live in cities or in the country gather together to one place, and the memoirs [letters] of the apostles or the writings of the prophets are read, as long as time permits; then, when the reader has ceased, the president [the presiding priest or bishop] verbally instructs, and exhorts to the imitation of these good things. Then we all rise together and pray, and, as we before said, when our prayer is ended, bread and wine and water are brought, and the president in like manner offers prayers and thanksgivings, according to his ability, and the people assent, saying Amen; and there is a distribution to each, and a participation of that over which thanks have been given, and to those who are absent a portion is sent by the deacons. And they who are well to do, and willing, give what each thinks fit; and what is collected is deposited with the president, who succors the orphans and widows and those who, through sickness or any other cause, are in want, and those who are in bonds and the strangers sojourning among us, and in a word takes care of all who are in need. But Sunday is the day on which we all hold our common assembly, because it is the first day on which God, having wrought a change in the darkness and matter, made the world; and Jesus Christ our Savior on the same day rose from the dead. For He was crucified on the day before that of Saturn (Saturday); and on the day after that of Saturn, which is the day of the Sun, having appeared to His apostles and disciples, He taught them these things, which we have submitted to you also for your consideration.
And this food is called among us Εὐχαριστία [the Eucharist], of which no one is allowed to partake but the man who believes that the things which we teach are true, and who has been washed with the washing that is for the remission of sins, and unto regeneration, and who is so living as Christ has enjoined. For not as common bread and common drink do we receive these; but in like manner as Jesus Christ our Savior, having been made flesh by the Word of God, had both flesh and blood for our salvation, so likewise have we been taught that the food which is blessed by the prayer of His word, and from which our blood and flesh by transmutation are nourished, is the flesh and blood of that Jesus who was made flesh. For the apostles, in the memoirs composed by them, which are called Gospels, have thus delivered unto us what was enjoined upon them; that Jesus took bread, and when He had given thanks, said, This do in remembrance of Me, [Luke 22:19] this is My body; and that, after the same manner, having taken the cup and given thanks, He said, This is My blood; and gave it to them alone.

" St. Ambrose

As for your last comment, that makes no sense. That which became, and that which is now the modern day Catholic Church, has always had multiple rites in communion.
Currently 24 separate Catholic liturgical rites exist.
But that’s why the Universal Church is called Catholic, it encompasses many different cultures, languages, and ethnic groups
But the idea that just because there was disagreement between parts of the Early Church does NOT validate Protestantism, just the opposite.
Despite those differences and disagreements (between that which become today’s Catholic Church) their efforts were directly inspired and guided by the Holy Spirit (to determine what was to be Biblical Canon)
Back then, they didn’t just run off and start yet another Church (if anyone disagreed with their personal interpretation) or consider themselves more legitimate than the direct apostolic successors.
Catholics don’t take credit because of Rome, Catholics take credit because it was the Universal Church (we are still part of) that later was called Catholic, that later called those books “the New Testament”and “The Bible”
So hate on us all you want. History tells the truth, that it was the roots of early Catholicism that put together the Bible

      LITERACY IN THE GRECO-ROMAN WORLD"
According to most historians, very few inhabitants of the Greco-Roman world were able to read even the simplest documents, and few could write as much as their own name. In that respect, Roman antiquity conforms to our expectations about the world in general before mass education, the printing press, the industrial revolution, and all the paraphernalia of modern, western civilization. Because there is no “hard evidence,” however, as to the percentage of individuals who were literate in the Roman world, we must depend upon the collective writings of that era for an answer. Most scholars today believe the literacy rate of the Roman population around the time of Augustus, to have been between 10-20 percent of the entire population; the most liberal scholars believe that number could have been as many as 33 percent. Because very few people possessed the skill of writing, there was a group of people in the New Testament who were called “scribes” - so few people could write that a trained professional subgroup was required to handle the writing needs of the whole community. Here are some important points to consider:
~Modern universal literacy is associated with the Industrial Revolution.

*Many Roman Catholic traditions (doctrines) were not based on commandments of God/Jesus or Mosaic Law. And they were not according to God/Jesus. A lot were based on philosophies of the world too. So they should be discarded.*

Take the Bereans. They searched the Scriptures (great!). But look what they did: unlike the Thessalonians, the Bereans accepted the Oral teaching of the Church through Paul IN ADDITION to their OT Bible, got baptized, and submitted to the Church as their Final Authority. The Bereans were the Catholics. It is the same precise Catholic paradigm down through the history of the Church: Scripture, Oral Tradition, and Church as Final Authority.
And why were the Bereans "noble-minded"? It wasn't because they read scripture because the Thessalonians did too. The scripture says "these Jews were more noble-minded than THOSE IN THESSALONICA. And if you read the few verses leading up to this point get a full explanation. They “received the word with all eagerness” in contrast to the hostile Thessalonians who in Acts 17:5 and 17:13-15 attacked Jason and dragged him and his friends before the authorities. And in contrast to the non-Christian Jews in Thessalonica who sent men to pursue Paul and incite crowds against him, forcing him to flee (Acts 17:13-15)...The Bereans received the word in eagerness and were noble-minded. The Thessalonians were the Sola Scriptura folk who stuck to their OT Alone

      @josephdalelio6684 20 дней назад +1

@@jediv9910 What’s up with all the pictures? Isn’t that like idol worship? Doesn’t the Bible forbid that?
Explaining iconography to someone who doesn’t pray with icons can be a little daunting. For us Orthodox, it’s as natural and normal as reading the Gospel, and we all sort of instinctively know that we’re not worshiping the icons. So what does the Bible say about images, and why do we have icons?
First off, typically when people try to say that the Bible forbids icons or images they are referring to the Ten Commandments:
You shall not make for yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them or serve them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.
Some Christians throughout history have interpreted this passage to mean that no religious images or visual art are allowed by God. In fact, the Church struggled with this issue throughout the eighth and ninth centuries finally defeating iconoclasm and upholding the use of icons in worship, a day we celebrate every year on the Triumph of Orthodoxy. The Church made clear the position of images in the worship of the Church and their relationship to the second commandment:
The Triumph of Orthodoxy. We even have an icon about icons. Image from Wikimedia
The Triumph of Orthodoxy. We even have an icon about icons. Image from Wikimedia
The Incarnation is a game-changer. Christ made visible the invisible God, and thus it is allowed that images of Him be depicted.
Icons depict real people. The second commandment protects us from creating fantastical creatures that replace the true God. Icons depict real people and events that draw us to the true God.
Worship and veneration are not the same. Worshiping an idol is the equivalent of replacing God with a created thing (or ideology or passion). Venerating an icon is an act of respect and love that glorifies the Creator (sort of like saluting to a soldier is an act of respect and honor that shows your loyalty to your country).
God instructed Moses to create images. Just in case anyone thought God’s commandment to Moses excluded all visual images of anything as idols, check out Exodus 36:35-37:9 where, per the instructions of God, Moses has images of cherubim embroidered into the curtains of the tabernacle and statues of the same cast for the Ark of the Covenant.
Obviously, then, it is not images that are an issue, but our relationship to images. So what do icons do for us and why do we love them?
Icons teach us our history. In the early Church, never mind the fact that there was no official New Testament canon for almost 400 years, there were very few copies of the Scriptures (no printing press), and not all Christians were literate. Even today, we have a huge contingency of Christians who do not read-you know, everyone under the age of five. Icons teach us the stories of Scripture and the lives of the saints-the whole story of salvation-and invite us to be a part of that history.
Icons teach us our theology. Icons are no ordinary paintings. They are full of symbolic meaning to convey the theological truths of the True Faith. From the colors to the stances of the people, to the scenery and lighting, icons teach us who God is, and who we are in relation to Him. For example, in most of the festal icons of Christ (Nativity, Theophany, Crucifixion, Resurrection), you’ll notice that Christ is the Light emerging from the darkness (of the cave, the water, Golgotha, Hades). Or you’ll typically see Christ wearing a red tunic with a blue cloak, showing us that he was divine (red) but took on humanity (blue), and his mother is typically dressed opposite as she-and we-are human (blue) who take on Christ’s divinity (red).
Icons draw us near to the saints. We believe in a Church that is united across both space and time. In other words, the saints that have preceded us are just as much a part of the Living Body of Christ as our own friends and family. Just as we might cherish an image of a loved one who is no longer physically with us (and we might carry that image with us or even kiss it when we miss them), we cherish the images of Christ, His mother, and the saints as images of those we love and who guide us in our own lives.
Icons call us to be still and worship. Unlike other forms of visual art, Orthodox iconography is specifically created with worship in mind. There is a stillness and a peace about the figures, even when they are shown “in action.” What seems to be a reverse in perspective is a message to us that it is we who vanish in the distance when we move away from God. Icons help us focus our prayers to God and help us dispel the distracting images that flit through our minds at the prompting of the demons.
Icons call us to the heavenly realm. Everything about icons that we’ve already mentioned-their themes, their symbols, their characters, their artistic style-seek to draw us toward Christ and His holy ones. This is another reason that icons are not painted realistically; they are meant to draw us not to themselves, but beyond the images to the heavenly reality they depict. Unlike other art and certainly unlike idols, icons do not allow us to get stuck in the beauty of this world but call us to be a part of a world transfigured by God’s grace and love.

@@danielmaggio7738 The command to "call no man father" (Matthew 23:9) is clear in its context: Jesus was rebuking the religious leaders of His day for their pride and desire for titles that exalted them above others. He emphasized that all authority, honor, and worship belong to God alone. Suggesting that this verse allows for spiritual titles such as "Father" misses the point of Christ’s rebuke, which was against elevating men to positions that belong to God.
As for using this passage to argue that personal interpretation leads to chaos, it's important to remember that Scripture itself invites believers to seek truth with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. While there are indeed many interpretations within Protestantism, the focus is on individuals being accountable to God and His Word, rather than subjecting their faith to an institution. Christ never established a hierarchy that places men between God and believers; instead, He made all believers priests before Him (1 Peter 2:9), with Christ alone as the mediator (1 Timothy 2:5).
The claim that the Catholic Church has authority through the magisterium because of an unbroken line back to Christ is not supported by the Bible. Scripture speaks of Christ as the foundation of the Church, not Peter or any man-made institution (Ephesians 2:20). Tradition cannot override the Word of God. The Bereans in Acts 17:11 were commended for testing the teachings they received against Scripture-not for relying on an ecclesiastical authority.
Finally, the idea of praying to the Virgin Mary for intercession directly contradicts the biblical teaching that there is one mediator between God and man-Jesus Christ (1 Timothy 2:5). Christ alone intercedes for us, and all honor, glory, and prayer should go to Him alone.
If you want to honor God, seek His Word in spirit and truth, not through the lens of man-made traditions or titles that exalt humans above their rightful place. Christ calls you to follow Him, not a religious system that strays from His teachings. Repent, and turn fully to the Lord as the one true authority over your life.

Woman is a temple built over a sewer. -Tertullian, “the father of Latin Christianity” in De Cultu Feminarum (c160-225)
[Women’s] very consciousness of their own nature must evoke feelings of shame.-Saint Clement of Alexandria, Christian theologian (c150-215): Pedagogues II, 33, 2
. And do you not know that you are Eve? God’s sentence hangs still over all your sex and His punishment weighs down upon you. You are the devil’s gateway; you are she who first violated the forbidden tree and broke the law of God. It was you who coaxed your way around him whom the devil had not the force to attack. With what ease you shattered that image of God: Man! Because of the death you merited, even the Son of God had to die… Woman, you are the gate to hell. -Tertullian, “the father of Latin Christianity” (c160-225): De Cultu Feminarum (On the Apparel of Women), Chapter 1
For it is improper for a woman to speak in an assembly, no matter what she says,
even if she says admirable things, or even saintly things, that is of little
consequence, since they come from the mouth of a woman. -Origen (d. 258): Fragments on First Corinthians, 74
Woman does not possess the image of God in herself but only when taken together
with the male who is her head, so that the whole substance is one image. But
when she is assigned the role as helpmate, a function that pertains to her
alone, then she is not the image of God. But as far as the man is concerned, he
is by himself alone the image of God just as fully and completely as when he and
the woman are joined together into one. -Saint Augustine, Bishop of Hippo Regius (354-430) On the Trinity
What is the difference whether it is in a wife or a mother, it is still Eve the temptress that we must beware of in any woman… I fail to see what use woman can be to man, if one excludes the function of bearing children. -Saint Augustine, Bishop of Hippo Regius (354 - 430): De genesi ad litteram, 9, 5-9
Woman is a misbegotten man and has a faulty and defective nature in comparison to his. Therefore she is unsure in herself. What she cannot get, she seeks to obtain through lying and diabolical deceptions. And so, to put it briefly, one must be on one’s guard with every woman, as if she were a poisonous snake and the horned devil. … Thus in evil and perverse doings woman is cleverer, that is, slyer, than man. Her feelings drive woman toward every evil, just as reason impels man toward all good. -Saint Albertus Magnus, Dominican theologian, 13th century: Quaestiones super de animalibus XV q. 11
So some early church fathers said good things and on the other hand also had some really bad beliefs! Interesting that we can read all the good things that the early church fathers said but if we want to see bad teaching , Luther's name is the one the roman Catholic church points at.

During the Last Supper, the Lord said to his disciples, “Do this in memory of me.” In Greek, this statement reads, “Touto poieite eis tan eman anamnesin.” There are two.aspects of this phrase that deserve consideration. For one, the phrase touto poieite can be translated as do this or as offer this. In the Old Testament, God commands the Israelites “you shall offer (poieseis) upon the altar two lambs” (Ex. 29:38). This use of poiein is translated as offer this or sacrifice this over seventy times in the Old Testament. So the same word that is used for the sacrifice under the Old Covenant is used for the sacrifice of the Mass in the New.
The second key.aspect of this phrase is Our Lord’s use of the word anamnesin. If you were to ask a Protestant to look in a Greek Translation of his Bible, every time this word (anamnesis) appears it is within a sacrificial context (see, for example, Numbers 10:10). It also can be translated as memorial offering or memorial sacrifice. While these nuances are lost in the English translation, Jewish ears would have understood the sacrificial meaning of Christ’s words.
Another New Testament passage that testifies to the sacrificial nature of the Mass is 1 Corinthians 10:14-21. Here Paul argues that participation in the Lord’s table means refusing to participate in the sacrifices of demons. Paul contrasts two groups: The first are those who participate in one altar (the table of demons), eating the sacrifice and drinking from the cup of demons. The second are those who partake of the table of the Lord (which, according to Malachi 1:7 is synonymous with an altar of sacrifice) and drink from the cup of the Lord. Paul’s argument is based upon the parallelism between the demonic sacrifice and the Christian sacrifice. Hebrews 13:10 follows this thought, saying that we have an altar from which those who serve the tent (Jewish priests serving in the temple) have no right to eat.

Christ’s bloody sacrifice on Calvary took place once, and it will never be repeated. To repeat his sacrifice would be to imply that the original offering was defective or insufficient, like the animal sacrifices of the Old Testament that could never take away sins. Jesus’ offering was perfect, efficacious, and eternal.
Protestants have no qualms accepting the perfect and efficacious nature of Christ’s sacrifice, but invite them to consider its eternal.aspect. Jesus is eternally a priest, and a priest’s very nature is to offer sacrifice. In the case of Christ, the eternal sacrifice that he offers is himself. This is why he appears in the book of Revelation as a lamb, standing as though he had been slain (Rev. 5:6). He appears in heaven in the state of a victim not because he still needs to suffer but because for all eternity he re-presents himself to God appealing to the work of the cross, interceding for us (Rom 8:34), and bringing the graces of Calvary to us.
The Mass is a participation in this one heavenly offering. The risen Christ becomes present on the altar and offers himself to God as a living sacrifice. Like the Mass, Christ words at the Last Supper are words of sacrifice, “This is my body . . . this is my blood . . . given up for you.” So, the Mass is not repeating the murder of Jesus, but is taking part in what never ends: the offering of Christ to the Father for our sake (Heb 7:25, 9:24). After all, if Calvary didn’t get the job done, then the Mass won’t help. It is precisely because the death of Christ was sufficient that the Mass is celebrated. It does not add to or take away from the work of Christ-it is the work of Christ.

When they were written has no effect on the rationale behind them.
      1. Nothing, belongs to caesar, because, Psalm 49:17 'when he dies, he shall carry nothing away, his glory shall not descend after him.' What does it mean? His 'glory' is his wealth, obviously. Because that is all he is after; wealth and opulence.
      2. Ecclesiastes 5:15 'As he came forth of his mother's womb, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take nothing of his labour, which he may carry away in his hand.'
      3. It means, he owns nothing. So, 'render unto caesar the things that are caesar's' means nothing belongs to caesar.
Back to my original point, caesar, belongs to God. God made him, God, will take him away. When something was written has nothing to do with if it is true and poignant or not.

@@browncony3897 #1----*****Who Is the Archangel Michael?
      ****The Bible’s answer
----Michael, referred to by some religions as “Saint Michael,” is evidently a name given to Jesus before and after his life on earth. * Michael disputed with Satan after the death of Moses and helped an angel deliver God’s message to the prophet Daniel. (Daniel 10:13, 21; Jude 9) Michael lives up to the meaning of his name-“Who Is Like God?”-by defending God’s rulership and fighting God’s enemies.-Daniel 12:1; Revelation 12:7.
----Consider why it is reasonable to conclude that Jesus is the archangel Michael.
Michael is “the archangel.” (Jude 9) The title “archangel,” meaning “chief of the angels,” appears in only two Bible verses. In both cases, the word is singular, suggesting that only one angel bears that title. One of those verses states that the resurrected Lord Jesus “will descend from heaven with a commanding call, with an archangel’s voice.” (1 Thessalonians 4:16) Jesus has “an archangel’s voice” because he is the archangel, Michael.
----Michael commands an angelic army. “Michael and his angels battled with the dragon,” Satan. (Revelation 12:7) Michael has great authority in the spirit realm, for he is called “one of the foremost princes” and “the great prince.” (Daniel 10:13, 21; 12:1) These titles designate Michael as “the commander-in-chief of the angelic forces,” as New Testament scholar David E. Aune puts it.
----The Bible mentions only one other name of someone having authority over an army of angels. It describes “the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with his powerful angels in a flaming fire, as he brings vengeance.” (2 Thessalonians 1:7, 8; Matthew 16:27) Jesus “went to heaven, and angels and authorities and powers were made subject to him.” (1 Peter 3:21, 22) It would not make sense for God to set up Jesus and Michael as rival commanders of the holy angels. Rather, it is more reasonable to conclude that both names, Jesus and Michael, refer to the same person.
----Michael “will stand up” during an unprecedented “time of distress.” (Daniel 12:1) In the book of Daniel, the expression “stand up” is often used to refer to a king who rises up to take special action. (Daniel 11:2-4, 21) Jesus Christ, identified as “The Word of God,” will take special action as the “King of kings” to strike down all of God’s enemies and protect God’s people. (Revelation 19:11-16) He will do so during a time of “great tribulation such as has not occurred since the world’s beginning.”-Matthew 24:21, 42.
