- We’ve shared with you before about the blossoming relationship between Khanyisa, Kumbura & Lundi… and here we show you more moments of these three together. What a joy to see them spending time side by side, especially as Khanyisa gets explorative and playful with the tree branches!
Watch as the calf gets herself a little stuck and works hard to get herself unstuck 😀
Because Kumbura is somewhat stuck to the hip of Khanyisa, dedicated to looking after the little one, it was inevitable that she would start getting closer to Lundi, Khanyisa’s adoptive mother. And Khanyisa is all the better for it, as she has all the support she needs!

I know all mothers loves their babies, but the Elephant mothers and Fathers and siblings are unique in the emotions and caring than any other in my personal opinion. More human like I should say.

Kumbura just wants to make sure that Khanyisa is never alone, in case independent Lundi should decide to wander off... 😉 Never forget Kumbura with the two youngsters when the whole street was flooded. She was there - last cow standing - all apprehension and determined to make sure Timisa and Khanyisa where safe.
That video was amazing. Although I felt a little bad for Kimbura, she was so upset. She has such a big heart ❤️❤️❤️
When the going got tough Kumbura was there. That video had me in tears and I realized just how wonderful is our Kumbura. 💗 Mama Lundi is a wanderer for sure, lol.

I've watched that video several times. I love that video. Kumbura loves those two girls. She was freaking out. I also love seeing Lundi with Khanyisa.

Khaynisa 🐘, Lundi 🐘 and Kumbura 🐘 are thick as thieves. Khaynisa 🐘 is so lucky to have them in her life. Where ever Khaynisa 🐘 is you know that Kumbura 🐘 is very close by. I am happy to see that Lundi 🐘 and Kumbura 🐘 have gotten very close. Khaynisa 🐘 has so many females in her life she is so loved and protected.

I like it too how they let us know what is going on amongst the family.
Kumbura tusks are beautiful, so slender and long. Lundi and her seemed to be waiting for khanysia to do her thing on the tree limb and making sure she didn't get hurt or entangled. Loved how both younger elephants immediately followed Lundi when she decided to leave. They do have a lot of silent communication going on between them. No human can hear it, but you can see it, it's in the way they react to each other's movements. Happy 💕 Day .

I am so happy Lundi and Kumbura are now friends. Kumbura is extra special in my heart. Lundi was watching Khanyisa closely when she was struggling with that big stubborn limb and little one was giving her all to make it move, lol. Wonder where sweet Timi was, maybe with Pisa?
I always feel that Khanyisa is safest with Kumbura watching after her and she is just a teenager but she is so protective and careful with her.
Certainly a lucky little elephant for these beautiful loving relationships and the fun antics she has with her family! Always a joy to watch🧡🥰🐘

I had a nervous moment when she climbed over the tree trunk. I am an over-protective viewer. Just thinking how quick accidents could happen. Look what happened to our 4 ton gentle giant Fishan.

What a treat to see Lundi, Meisiekind and Kumbura together like that. Kumbura is such a gentle and unassuming soul. She loves it when Khanyisa stays close to her. And look how the little one put herself right under Lundi's chest. That was so heartwarming. Whenever I see Lundi I check out that cute little notch on her right ear that looks like it's hanging by a thread and ready to fall off, but it's still there! It was also interesting to watch Lundi and Kumbura watching Khanyisa honing her climbing and foraging skills. They are taking note......

One can see the age in the faces of the eles, the younger's look smooth with big eyes, whereas the older look more wrinkled and have smaller, more tired looking eyes. Like us.

How cool was it to see Lundi, Kumbura and sweet Khanysia together.🥰🐘🐘🐘❤️😊 It is so cool how close they are with each other too. I just love to see the relationships of elephants and how very important their young is to them too.🥰👍🏻 Just like Eagles, Lions and I’m sure many other wild animals too. Especially domesticated female mom cats too with their young. Extremely protective of them.🥰❤️😺👍🏻 I always enjoy watching just about anything that has to do with animals. I'm thinking how these beautiful and clever elephants must be trilingual. They understand elephant, Afrikaans and English. At least! 😊 It always moves me seeing how aware of each other they are, always on alert and ready for action as they deem necessary. They are so sensitive and empathetic to each other. Another wonderful video! Fills my heart with joy watching Khanyisa explore. Thought she was going to climb onto that tree branch. 😂🤭 Then when she was to the right of them, Khanyisa was throwing her trunk around. I started giggling when I heard Adine giggling!

I'm curious: has there ever been a documentary done about Adine and HERD? I would love to watch it if there is!
A documentary I don’t think there’s ever been one done however Khanyisa’s story was featured on The Dodo Kids and the main Dodo channel in the series Wild Hearts as well as a channel called Reuters. Adine also was a guest on a RUclips channel called Black Bean Productions about 2 years ago where she discussed HERD,Jabulani and the work they do. It would be really amazing to see a full length documentary one day the herd is incredible 🐘🥰

Boy, I sure hope not. While baby ellies are cute as anything, the trauma they go through & the amount of effort involved once they're rescued, with no guarantee of success...... may they all stay where they belong. With their mama & families. Amen.
Please don't hope for a new orphan as that means wishing for trauma to be inflicted on a calf and the mother / herd.

It's always sad to see a felled tree. Are you planting trees as part of your Save an Elephants' Home Project? I'm sure it's hard to keep the saplings alive given the elephant's affinity to eat them. I see the struggle when Khanyisa was at the nursery pulling the branches each time she passed the small trees there.

We are not sure what happened to Lundi's ear - her ear was already like this when she was rescued years ago.
