Finally a show that caters to regular middle class people by reviewing simple affordable trucks. Great show. What do you expect from Canadians.😁👍🇨🇦😁👍🇨🇦
Glad you liked it!
Good ol United States 🇺🇸 gotta review trucks that only the rich can afford to driver to the grocery store and shopping malls instead the blue collar worker
The custom trim level really hits the sweet spot, in my opinion, on features and value. And the front end design has really grown on me. Nice review!
More tests of trucks with front bench seats, that was hilarious!
We really gave it a good test - you know its a strong bench! :)
This is the exact Chevy I would buy! I own a 2010 GMC Sierra base model with an 8ft bed and though it's still in good shape, that Chevy is getting VERY tempting. Thanks guys for this "budget" conscious review.
Own 2010 Base Silverado WT and decided to pull the trigger on this truck today! I’m happy with it!
What a great channel. Listening to what the viewers want, literally getting GM to build them a truck for a review. Truck King > TFL
Thanks 👍
I own a 2018 Custom and agree with everything the guys said about why a Custom is a good option. They are spot on and it's exactly why I chose mine. I wanted a good looking truck, but didn't want/need all of the features in my 20s. Most people don't even realize it's a work truck when they get in despite the fact that it's glaringly obvious to me. Manual transfer case, manual driver seat, 7" screen, small gauge screen, manual climate control, plastic steering wheel, etc but those were all things I was OK with when I purchased. The ONE downside for me is that the driver does not adjust up or down on the Custom/WT. I didn't notice this when I test drove because I'm well over 6', but my lady is shorter and needs to sit on a booster pad to see properly if she drives the truck. That's one thing that would have been nice to have in an LT.
Get a taller girlfriend? ;)
It doesn't matter what brand of truck it is, I just like seeing reviews of lower trim models that most people would buy. Super job!
I do too, because it makes me laugh. If you're hauling and can't afford a brand new truck that's meant for it, buy a used truck that's not a toy.
Ahhh man I just got off a 12 hour night shift and am ready for bed. Guess I’m up for a while watching this review now!!
Lol. Well hopefully when you do go to sleep and dream, You dream about a Ram👍👍 lol.
@@ramrider1453 Nope didn’t dream of a Ram haha.
12 hr shift reminds me of nursing shirts , tired at the end unless it’s payday!
900 pounds of Canadians in the front seat lol …Great review
I have the 2020 Chevy Silverado Custom, Crew cab, 4x4. It has the 5.3l v-8 with active fuel management. Mine came with black out package and black steps and the factory bed liner. I love this truck.
A column shifter is not an old guy thing -- it's where the shifter belongs!
Agreed, turn dials just aren't the same. My last truck was six speed, hate the 8 speed, it's always climbing up, and lugging, I switch it to manual mode. Love the custom package here, I'll be testing one of those shortly.
Custom and custom trail boss is where it’s at for bang for your buck. Good for you guys for doing this review!
This might be another reason for Fords bottom trims being more expensive. You get the 10 speed on all trims.
LMAO when all three in the front! What a RIOT! 😂😂😂
It is true that most of us will go for the less pricier trucks....
Awesome review 👍🏻
I have 2019 5.3 brand new price 43,000. I walked out paying 26,000 it haves 31,000 miles now. I love it
2021 here and love it.
3 in the front seat was hilarious
The Silverado Custom trim level trucks are plentiful in Ohio, I performed a 100 mile search just using 1 popular automotive search engine and I came up with 83 available trucks, not as rare in the states as they are in Canada from what I learned watching this video. (Liked the information in the video)
I was told by a salesman that there are problems with the 8 speed trans. I went with the Custom because I wanted the painted bumpers
Great review gang! Much appreciation that you guys listen to “readers” here.
Yes we do
Hands down most handsome truck. And a heavy duty family with all king size members 😎 Thank you guys, good review and wonderful scenes.
Our pleasure!
It is nice to see all 3 of you in this truck review. It is good for Chevy to have a base truck and customize it as you would like it and also the information on the trims available. thanks guys.
Well said!
Really like the Chevy truck. Been considering buying a new truck.
Interesting on your sales break down. I recently learned that 20% of Silverado sales are Trailboss trucks. Which can be both Custome and LT trim. I would Expect the LT and RST trim trucks to be the biggest volume, not LTZ.
Out west here, the Custom trim is fairly popular.
In Quebec, all we see is Trailboss and GMC Sierras
I like the looks of the Custom trim. You can get the 6.2 V8, but only in the Crew Cab. You can’t get it in the double cab. My favorite is the Custom Trail Boss. 😀
I have 21, Custom 5.3 v-8 double cab..
Even though you guys felt uncomfortable,..it gave me an honest assessment of the front jump seat..
I traded in my 2008 Corvette for my 2021 2.7T Crewcab Custom 4x4. And I am loving my truck everyday! Absolutely a great choice.
(MSRP was $47k, out the door $34k.)
Hahaha🤣 taking a dump on the no dumping sign bahah!! Priceless!! Love videos on more base trucks. I wanna see a review on the new f150 xlt with 5.0 Coyote if possible. Keep up the good work and the funny family moments haha love it
It’s not that I can’t afford a “nicer” truck. I work In construction and the fancy stuff would just get covered in mud/dirt and dust. I don’t clean my truck very often so it’s kind of a waste of money. This is the spec of truck I will be getting when I’m up for a new one
I've seen a few episodes of motoringTV where Elmer was wearing his truck King jacket for the show. Good job!
Thanks for the working man truck review! Keep up the good work and best wishes for 2021!
Thanks, you too!
Actually the eight speed with DFM 5.3 gets the same combined fuel economy as the 10 speed 5.3 with DFM. There is an eight speed without the DFM (old school 4 or 8 cylinder deactivation) you get in the custom that gets the lower 18 combined. I have my window sticker from my 2019 LTZ 8 speed 5.3 DFM that gets a combined 19. Actual real world epa is surprisingly better. Around 20 combined in Colorado.
I just bought a 2021 custom with the 2.7l turbo in December and so far it's great. I also agree with your comments on sometimes less is more. I test drove some of the other trucks in gm and other manufacturers and felt all the buttons and switches was a little overwhelming.
Can it tow pretty good?
@@surfgar I just bought a new travel trailer at 5300lbs only towed it one time but was super happy with that one tow.
@@shawnmclaren1685 damn well that's good lol. I got this exact model so I can tow daily😭 I hope I have no problem towing 9k daily
@@surfgar I'm buying one right now with the 2.7. how did it hold up with daily towing?
@@sawyerjvreade my best advice is you get airbags installed for towing
I own one of these. Nothing fancy, looks good and can tow or haul anything I need it to.
Same here, just add a S&B cold intake system and wow..performance at its finest with a performance muffler and tune ...
I must commend you for reviewing this truck. It would be useful to see how similarly equipped trucks from other manufacturers compare.
I can't help but wonder if the lower trim levels don't sell as well because dealers stock mostly higher level trims. Many people won't order a truck built to spec for various reasons (i.e they don't want to wait, the dealer is pushing what they have in stock, rebates come later in a year when you can no longer order a current model year truck, etc.). I suspect manufacturers push dealers to take trucks which include packages which have a lot of profit in them. When you build a truck online and look at what is included in various packages you see it. You might want one thing from a package that costs $2000.
In any case, well done!
Great review. I recently got out of a 2017 Ram 1 ton Longhorn Megacab Diesel, and into a 2020 half ton Ram 1500 Bighorn with the level 2 equipment package. This truck is surprisingly satisfying to me. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but it does have everything I need, including heated seats and steering wheel. I was a bit apprehensive about not having the nav system, but now I am using Apple Carplay and absolutely love it. The maps will always be current, and it gives options about which app you'd like to use for nav. It also has the offroad package which comes with the rear locker and the factory lift like the Rebel. Really liking my new ride.
Really like that they added the storage to the center console armrest like they have in the LT for '21. Having interior storage options for gear & tools is huge for me
Thanks for all the hard work you put in on these videos. They are extremely well composed and informative. Luv the Chanel, I need to run my 2018 Roush F150 through the bog
Glad you like them!
Really love that review. I’m about to buy a truck and was worried about choosing the custom trim line. Really helpful review , thank you
I love mine, hope this helps, affordable
i've been watching for to long. the brothers both nodded the there heads at the same time, in the same way! then the both look their window, at the same time, for the same duration.
Thanks for addressing the single speed transfer case. GM sends out trail boss trucks for review and the Average Joe GM buyer doesn’t realize there is no low range. Obviously, GM must have realized most buyers don’t use it, but I use low range regularly (both my F150 and Xterra) and when my neighbor bought a 2020 Silverado, he asked me how to put his truck in low range (spoiler he didn’t have it)
Just add the Z71 package as that is what gives you the 4x4 low on all trim levels, except the HC which has it standard, and the Custom which is the only model you can’t get the Z71 in, because it is designed to be a more sporty street truck (20” wheels, all-season tires, etc).
great review..
FYI: my brother inlaw is a sales rep in a dealership here in calgary alberta,. the SILVERADO 1500 CUSTOM 2.7 turbo is hotcake!!! they sell a lot to those suv guys as the gas cunsumption is the same as the SUV.. they dealership put some free step boards and cool sticker to look sporty and black rims.. and at the same time, some of them are priced against top SUV.. so its really a good buy..
they also add leather seat and customized the driver side seat to have a button for heated seats..
this makes you think, later on you can actually customized this truck with after market stuff..
This is what I was aiming for before covid.... exactly the same truck package...
Couple big differences between GM, Ford and Ram. Ford is the only one that doesn’t get auto 4wd in the lower trims but Ram and Ford put the best towing gas motors in the lower trims.
But Ford gives you the 10 speed almost across the entire range. The auto 4wd is something I miss from my ram going to my 4Runner and tundra. Visits to the dealership however is something I don’t miss at all!
@@northerntoyota7584 Fords 10 speed is having issues though. Or did they correct this issue yet?
You guys should test an f-150 with the 2.7L
I purchased this truck last day of employee pricing this month. I paid $38,600. Same as this truck almost in every regard, except in white. 4x4, crew cab, 5.3v8/6speed. This is the combo I wanted. I'm planning on keeping this truck for many years if it holds up. I dont want all those fancy transmissions. Theyre going to be a headache when they age. I love it so far, rides smooth, drives well, has everything you would want in a pickup. I think the front end is a call back to the design language GM used in the "cat eyes" body style.
We are glad you reported your purchase price - we figured it was cheaper than the MSRP we have to state. Shows you can get a decent truck in the lower price category. Thanks
Bought that same truck same color and all... I can tell you it is a beauty to drive!
YAY! Another Canadian review! Good job boys!
I just got a 2021 1/2 ton custom Silverado in 4x4 with the Double cab and the 6.5 foot box. It has the same packages you talk about and I love it. It is everything I was trying to get in a Midsized but it tows way more and get's good mpg empty. The only thing that upset me was the fact that I don't have a 2 speed transfer case. You don't realize how much you miss it until you attempt to use it and forget that you don't have it. I was able to get mine for 38,839.00 . I wasn't going to get it but I needed a truck right away and decided to lease it. I really think that I am going to buy it in 3 years. This thing is like driving a small diesel but without the smoke. It's torque is awesome. They need to do as I have been suggesting for years and turbo the gas inline 6 cylinder.
I like the family review style
Glad to hear it
For some reason was really expecting you guys stop at a Tim Horton and pack that trailer with donuts.
Hey Truck King.. Good Afternoon!!😎We got that blast of snow ❄️they were talking about..have a good day Steve!!Thanks!!
I just got one and its amazing truck. Its strong and fast. Smooth and comfortable to drive. The only thing i don’t like is the front driver seat, needs to put some spacer lift to have more vision. But no regrets on this 2.7 turbo. This is better than those v8. Its too quite.
I disagree, 5.3 v-8 is where you want to be..
I have a 2019 Custom Trail Boss (5.3 V8, Crewcab, shortbox). and I average 12l._100km. I love that it has all I need, and nothing i don't. Looks cool too!
Just found you guys, really like what you're doing! Just the facts and no BS
I live in Tennessee and seeing you all driving normally on the snow is so odd. When it does snow around here people drive very slow, if at all. :)
Love the review, but the 6 speed is insulting these days, especially on a truck one might use for work/towing.
I would love to see a review of the 2.7 towing stuff. Work it hard, find out where the RPMs want to be on the highway, how well it holds power up a hill instead of downshifting etc. Based on my digging around, the 2.7 + 8 speed is a far better experience than the 5.3 with the 6.
@ @John Smith You are full of Crap ! The 5.3 is far superior to the 2.7 Turdbo That will die long before the 5.3 ! It has to work way Harder !
@@thunderbolt5354 based on what? The 2.7 is pretty new hooked to the 8 speed and from what I can tell the turbos are lasting pretty good.. not trying to be argumentative I'm really curious if you know or just a vi junkie?
I paid 43k for mine in 2021, super nice, has the 2.7 turbo which is great. Silverado has such a handsome truck, mine is cherry tint coat and is particularly nice in that color.
I have a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 custom, and got a great deal at $ 31,700 plus tax title and license fees..
I don't need or want chrome trim, or fake wood trim, or electronic B.S. that I would never use, and I sure don't want to pay for it. I don't think it's always a case of not being able to afford a $60,000+ truck. Often it's a case of people not willing to pay that much, which is where I am. I would buy that truck as long as it has a 6 ft bed minimum. Nice review.
Go for it
SILVERADO Sensational Integrated Lioness Victimizing Every RAM And Dodge Outright
Oh man Dicky Balless. Ram Victimizes all competition. #1 prize winner. Lol. But yes that Silverado is nice but GM is nicer by far. IMO!
@@ramrider1453 on RAM Ranch, GM is professional grade.
@@youarerightboss Lol. Ya it’s not that bad. But a true sweet reliable truck is Ram.. now get GM or Chevy to upgrade there hideous interior. 👍👍.
@@ramrider1453, I do like the 6.4 liter V-8 Hemi.
RAM Really Awesome Machines
@@youarerightboss Ya that’s a beast. Also thirsty beast. I do love the new 6.2L GM. If I were to tow a fifth wheel again it would be that beast. Actually not to bad on fuel compared to my old 2003 GM 6.0L. Lots of power. I hated the piston slap issue that GM had back then. But I do love the snap of my Hemi also 5.7 👍👍
Thanks for making this video. The new leader board is awesome. Nice to see the three Elmers in the front seat
Great 👍 review ! I am really glad you guys are reviewing lower trim trucks that the working men/women can afford 😀 ! CHEERS 🍻
They are tough to get - but we keep asking - and are getting a few.
One thing to note. Do not use 4wd auto during dry conditions. It's clearly printed in the manual that you should not leave it in auto mode. I've seen several failures because of this too.
I would imagine a lot of fleet sales of this trim level. My fleet truck at work is a 2016 Silverado and is optioned basically the same as this. The amount of engine and transmission options available now is crazy!
Now do it with an f-150 stx with the 5.ooh, 3,73 rear end!
Good review. The custom trim is a real looker in my opinion.
However I have a hard time believing the take rate is only 10%. Especially in the heavy duty trucks. I see as many Custom 2500HDs as LTZs. And in half tons there’s probably more Custom TrailBoss trucks around than LT.
I guess I shouldn’t say I don’t believe it but I’m just really surprised by based off my area and extensive searches over the past few months looking for 2500HD trucks.
Perhaps its different by region - but those are GMs sales numbers
Nice review, and great ending 😁
Very thorough review I liked the part of shoveling the trailer "shut up go away" 😂
The reason people buy the LTZ or high country isn’t because people don’t want simple. It’s because GM has certain option packages that you can’t get in lower trims. And when dealers order, they want the $$$ so they order higher trims. When I go in and look for a custom, they don’t have one, so they say “but for a couple thousand more, you can get this LT” and so on. The dealers decide what’s bought and sold. The people want a simple truck but there’s no money in simple.
I like your Jack guys with that logo
Perfect, just what I was looking for - thank you!
Great to hear!
2021 Custom Trail Boss with 6.2L is a interesting package you can do. Its like a poor mans ZR2!
I’m not sure if you have done a video on it or not but could you do a vid on the different axles. And pros / cons of each ?
Here you go again...Another GREAT video! Love your videos.
Thanks Bill, and thanks for becoming a member. Steve
The one thing I wish they offered in the custom is the diesel (even if it was a 2k upgrade), other than that the truck is perfect for the price bracket. I think the reason higher price trucks sell more is because dealers bully people into buying higher priced trucks, first they only order higher priced trucks, then they do everything they can to convince you you need one. Thats how things are in the states anyways.
Custom Regular cab short bed with sprayed bed liner would be nice
Made me laugh at 5:56. Great camera placement. The old joke is the middle guy in the pickup is the skier.
Test a Custom with the 2.7L Turbo 4.
Just found this review and while my comment might not be relevant anymore I'll share my experience. I was in the market for a new to me truck a little over a year ago. Almost bought a used one of these but the gmc. Almost did it until I realized that it was the same truck underneath that I currently had. Six speed 5.3 v8 with avt. That's 10+ year old tech and not the improvement in performance I was looking for. The dealer wanted 55k for it. I end up with a new max tow Rst 6.2 for less and better financing. Your comment about not missing the 8 vs. 6 speed transmission is exactly what I was afraid of because I do tow a lot.
Now days it's almost impossible to find the 5.3 as the dealerships are really pushing that 2.7 turbo. I drove the 1st gen of it and was not impressed. But now its power numbers are comparable to the 5.3 which I think makes it's days numbered.
Its very affordable. I've seen them go as low as 35k with dealer incentives even with a 4x4 package/full size crew cab. You'll probably wanna pay extra for the around 38-42k range for the bigger engine and options.
Paid $ 31,700 for my custom.
13:48 most people would rather pay for it at the pump then pay for it at the mechanic’s shop when that afm/dfm system causes their lifters to fail
The new Chevy grills are sweeeet
Love the review I just picked up a 2021 custom 2500hd love the simplicity and options
I got a white version two weeks ago got a 6in lift with 35s tires on a custom 20in rims with a drop step now it looks like a totally different truck
Looking forward to the sled reviews 😀👍
Thanks Grant! Editing them right now. Was certainly a fun set of videos to shoot.
21:34 LMFAO 😂
Wow that little 5.3 with the 6 speed did alright. Considering the trailer and u 3 big boys in there.
Makes me feel good about how much I payed for my truck. 37k for a 2018 crew cab lt z71, Allstar package, and pearl white! It's basic but has everything i need
Great channel, great reviews. I’ve had 4 Chevys in the last 14 years. Plenty of miles and some decent work on the farm. Have never used 4 low wouldn’t miss it. Don’t think I could live without 4 auto. Love the look of this model. Only thing I’d miss on this is the leather steering wheel. Your hands are always on the wheel. Those plastifoam steering wheels are not cool.
How does the Silverado feel with only 2 wheel drive?
Awesome
Awesome review guys. You are a great trio. Very much enjoy your real world content.
Thanks so much!
My local dealer here in the U.S. has or had that same truck. It was $41k
We figured. But, we can only quote MSRP
@@TruckKing yep, I understand. Just wanted to let you know.👍
Great review! Love the bench seat check, you guys looked cozy up there! This could definitely be a truck I’m interested in, but looks like I need 1-2 levels higher to get the LM2 Duramax.
I was a little surprised that the higher trim is the best seller : do you remember where those stats came from? I see lots of comments about the $70-80k trucks and I agree: they’re nice but so much more than I can afford and with stuff I don’t really need/want. I just wish ALL the manufacturers could provide a truck that one could pick ALL options, rather than trim levels/packages/etc that aren’t always available together.
Hey Truck King. Load that Chevy and trailer with snow and bring some to Manitoba. I want to go sledding. Need snow lol

Thanks for watching!
Very good review as always 👍 I also read a few comments on you should compare the same base models from the manufacturers and see which one offers better. I know Ford offers you the 10 speed on all trims
Lovin' the leader board boys !! Great segment.
I like it. I was looking at a 2020 custom trail boss with 6.2 & 10 speed . I also liked the bench seat. While I was working on my legacy employee pricing the truck was sold to someone else. Price was reasonable. I ended up going price crazy with a Sierra AT4 6.2L on 20's.
That's what happens. But that's OK - you should love what you drive. Life is short.
Great review guys. Love ❤️ the good humour and keeping it real. I would love to see a review of the 2021 Ford F-150 XLT XTR or some comparable affordable version of the Silverado Custom. Thanks
