the number 8 is an auspicious number in Chinese culture so with the announcement being on 8/8, this FSD news must have been already decided upon when Elon mentioned the date being 8/8, that would have been a huge clue that FSD was coming to China. I had a hunch but wasn't sure until the news today, now it all makes sense. And of course BYD is actually the automaker that is in talks with Tesla about licensing FSD. In chinese culture and business, the only way to get deals through is if everyone wins, you scratch my back and i scratch yours, guan shi. BYD gets FSD licensing>increase BYD knowledge of how FSD infrastructure is set up and how it works>BYD pays for tesla FSD>Baidu helps with datacenter infrastructure needed for processing/storing data> BYD and Baidu use their connections with chinese government to get approvals, everyone wins. Yes china will copy, Elon has stated in past he doesn't care about people copying, he gives out his homework about 48v for free, he knows that innovating faster is the only way to keep ahead of competition so he is not worried about people copying him.

The models are transferable. If it was me, I would simply update a few cars in China with the recent 12.3.6 version which contains the needed LHD model, then add in the Baidu map data and see how it goes.
This is why neural network is so good. What you do in one country can be applied to another seamlessly. Hence why LHD will be rolled out first, then RHD once they have trained a model for it.
There should be only a little training needed to get FSD working in China, what was missing was the map data for route generation and directions

Farzad, FSD will only work perfectly if the cars on the road are not only FSD capable, but have a kind of swarm tech where every car is aware of every car. This will make it almost impossible to have an accident as if one car has, say a flat tire and it begins to swerve, that car will warn all cars near it that it is moving in a non traditional way, and so all cars nearby will know what evasive action to do to prevent a crash. This will decimate the numbers of car crashes, and will decimate deaths on the road. this will make tesla a true monopoly.

It logically does not make sense that Tesla can produce a $25K car on existing productions lines. This would be a 33% reduction compared to existing model 3. Making a slightly smaller (4 seater) car is not reducing cost more that 10%. ($3.5K) Getting US sourced batteries and using exiting cheeper components from un-boxed project ($1K motor) in a model 3 will make much more sense and can reduce prices to sub $30K car.
My guess on a reveal on 8/8 is a Roadster production version.

@@kurtgriffin8365 That might be an option, though there are definitely downsides to using Chinese silicon, and/or Chinese third-party datacenters. Alternative solution: could Tesla put a datacenter in Taiwan? From China's perspective, the video isn't leaving China (under the "One China" definition). And from the US perspective, export would be much easier. In fact, if TMSC is making Dojo silicon there, then there would be no import/export involved.

This is going to cost me almost $300.00 in additional insurance for 6 months. When will Tesla start to insure for the state of Florida? Until than I will not be able to afford the cost of FSD. Good question! Two of my adult sons are visually impaired, and will hence never drive, never even ride a bicycle, which makes me sensitive to the challenges handicapped people are confronted to. I guess that a simple button on the ride ordering app, saying that you need a car compatible with a wheelchair, would take care of the problem. You might have to wait for a few minutes more, but a car compatible with your handicap would show up.

Lastly if there are 1 million Robotaxis on the road and on average each has 1 intervention per year, that’s 1M interventions per year. How will they handle this?

Elon stated that this new EV would not have all of the cost savings as the original $25k un-boxed EV, therefore I believe Elon was implying that this new EV would probably cost more than what they had stated earlier.

ALRIGHT FARZAD, I consider you one of the greats and as such I hate to see it when one of the greats gets caught up in the confusion created by the FUDsters (...man they're so good at it). IMO based on every thing said so far on the build out of the "Unboxed" line the "compact car" will be a dedicated build on this line, however the line will likely support the "Cybercab" as well. "...other cheaper models" will use a hybrid of the two production methods on existing lines, possible to include existing models built on those lines to take advantage of speed and efficiency gains where applicable.
The "next gin compact car" will not be built on 3andY lines. "other models" like a final mile van, a compact-midsize pickup, and lets not forget the roadster is coming. Which may utilize these production methods and lines.
IN CLOSEING it would not make sense to build out the INTIER UNBOXED line for this car specifically and then not use it IMO. ...or maybe I'm the one who is confused.

Then as soon as the business aspect of the licensing agreement is settled, it is ready to go.

I think in the light of this information it makes it interesting with Tesla's comment about OEMs that might sign for FSD licening licensing that everyone of course was thinking one of the big three US very likely that it could be one of China's OEM manufacturers that wants to license technology so I thought would be it might be one of them before a US company does it which could then cause a cascade of effects in China because they all will want to have it so they can eliminate that from their it won't be a competitive advantage for their rivals
