I expect it is because of the income level requirement maximums ($150k joint filers, $75k single filers). At least a mention would be good.

Never thought I’d see Brandon on Farzad’s channel! That’s awesome he’s making the jump. He’s in the exact place we were at about 2 years ago. We bought our first Tesla used. 2017 Model S 90D with 50K miles. We’ve loved it ever since day one and continue to love it. And like you guys told him, you look for an excuse to drive the car more than you need to. I just recently placed a deposit for the Model 3 Performance for my daily. Delivery date sometime in June. So pumped to get that car! Can’t wait to see follow up videos with Brandon here on the channel. This was a great change of content from the norm!

I was just in the same boat back in January. I was trying to decide whether to get a 2020 Model 3, or 2017 Model S. We decided we really preferred the cargo space with the hatchback and instrument panel screen in the S over the advantages of a newer 3. We ended up getting a 2017 S 100D with Enhanced Autopilot for $32K. Highly recommend finding one with EAP because it'll cost significantly less than one with EAP but yet only run you $2K to upgrade to FSD which also includes the hardware upgrade so it'll essentially become a much newer car. That's what we're doing very soon. We love our S. One of the most beautiful cars on the road, and arguably the most practical used car you can get. Moreso than the 3.
Wish I could've been on the call seeing as I just went through this, haha

The 2018 Model S can do FSD only if it has the MCU2 upgrade, but it's a stunted less capable version of FSD. That said, I own a similar one, and it drives me all over town without me doing much of anything. The thing you'll miss out on is the cabin camera features and the remote sentry view. Modern computers and a horizontal screen are mid 2021.

Talking about parking the car outside:
I park my Tesla outside in the Arizona sun. One of the best things about Tesla is that you can set the Cabin Overheat Protection, which keeps the interior around 100° instead of 150° in the summer. It uses about $1.50 worth of electricity to keep that active all day. Plus, when you are about to leave, you just open your app or smartwatch or smart speaker to fully activate climate, and the car will be fully cooled when you get in. No engine running, no fumes, just fresh air at the right temperature.

ADVICE: I bought my 2021 Model 3 with 41k miles about 7 months ago. I will say a piece of advice/awareness! We were in a van before the 3, getting in and out of a very low car like the 3 is wild. How did we ever ride in cars before? LOL. But for real, the Y will give you a higher vehicle and the seats on a higher stand. Along with more space, that's the reason the Y has outsold the 3.
I would really only consider the S for more space or an amazing deal, but the S and X do have higher depreciation. Now saying that, buying one used the depreciation has pretty much hit. You also do get more mileage on the S and X. I would really pay attention to what you're doing to decide what battery size you want! I only use 10 to 30% of my battery daily! We do travel sometimes, but when you look at the big picture it's maybe three or four times a year and sometimes only two or three times. I can drive to Atlanta from my house for less than $10 using the supercharging Network, which has me charge for around 15 minutes. But if I'd gotten the bigger battery, I wouldn't have to stop at all. But that's simply because of that distance. If I traveled to Atlanta often, there is zero doubt that I would have a bigger battery. But I really don't, so I am excited that I didn't pay extra. For our situation.

Unfortunately, last month I was sideswiped by a guy and needed a new front quarter panel as well as paint on the door. For the two weeks my Mach-e was in the shop, I rented a 2023 Tesla Model 3. While I absolutely LOVE dog mode, I found the Tesla UI not intuitive, slow, and hard to navigate. I use Audible, Spotify, Apple Maps, Waze, and Google Maps to navigate Los Angeles traffic. I also listen to AM radio for the news. The Tesla was frustrating in that it doesn't have AM radio, nor does it have CarPlay. I was able to steam on bluetooth, but missed my CarPlay. Also, the Model 3 was way less comfortable than the Mach-e. I was so happy to get back into my Mach-e.
