  • Come along with me for a demo ride on the Yamaha VMAX. A 1700cc monster bike. See my impression of this beast. Its a very cool looking bike but how does it ride?

    I have a 2014. Very easy to turn bike; corners excellently with modest counter-steer. Brakes are top notch. I have not found anyone yet, riding any other cruiser, on any paved road anywhere, that will hang with this bike. Period.

    I have the 2014 VMAX. 100% beast. 100% fun. 100% Super Sport Bike power. 100% thirsty on fuel too. I get way better w/ highway miles than city stop & go. On the highway, I get approx. 100-110 miles out of a full 4 gl. tank and that's cruising at 75-85 on the highway. Approx. 80 miles city so be prepared. It's my fun bike aka bar hopper. Unlike the comment in the vid and it "not wanting to turn". It's all perspective. I hear how it could be though if you're used to something else lighter and more nimble. I also have a HD Street Glide and after riding it for years and years, to me this thing is so easy to maneuver. Again, what a fun, comfortable quick kick in the pants! The bike is no joke whatsoever and way more comfortable than I thought it would be. Thanks for posting the great vids and everyone ride fun n safe out there!!

      +eyezlikeydrums Thanks for constructive input as an owner. It's good to see other people's perspectives especially those with more time with this beast. It is a rad bike, just doesn't fit my frame too well I guess. I'd like to take it for an extensive test ride for a day.

    I can see people not liking this bike because it's a love it or hate it kind of bike.
    Most people prefer something a little smaller because if your not used to the weight it will have handful in the corners.
    The Vmax is a bike that too few people know how to fully enjoy & as a result would be wasted on an inexperienced rider as well as a short ride as many hours on this bike is needed to fully know know the Vmax & to know its capability, potential & to fully enjoy such a machine.
    Happy & safe riding.... 😀
    Just too many people dislike this bike & only a select few can tame this beast & will truly know what real power is.

    He's obviously scared of the bike which is influencing his objectivity! Watched a video before this one that was the VMAX being ridden by a professional sport bike racer who loved almost everything about the VMAX including comfort and handling. I'd have to say this guy's evaluation was totally unrealistic. Although they both agreed its really fast!
    People who are scared of the bike before they even get on it rarely are objective with their evaluation.
    I am a former open class dirt bike racer who has owned a number of different bikes and currently riding a first gen Vmax. I've gone over 30,000 miles with only 1 plug and tire change. It's the best cruiser I've ever owned!

    "A novelty item is an object which is specifically designed to serve no practical purpose, and is sold for its uniqueness" Except this is designed for something - acceleration, and has had the same purpose since the 80s. I guess sports cars are a novelty as well since you can't get groceries in them.

    • @derek96720
      @derek96720 6 лет назад +2

      Xero going fast is a novelty, since most places you'll never be able to get anywhere close to top speed. It's entertainment divorced from practicality, ergo novelty.

    • @blakebiggs1065
      @blakebiggs1065 3 года назад

      @@derek96720 Acceleration is also an aspect of speed, not just attaining a high top speed. Acceleration can be used at virtually all times when riding. So you’re stupid, and the VMAX is NOT merely a novelty. Its purpose is to be able to accelerate voraciously from or at any speed whatsoever. It’s the opposite of a novelty, unlike you and your bogus opinions.

    yeah, i do alot of adventure riding too, but it still doesn't make it hard to turn. that which feels a bit stiff and sluggish at 5mph also makes it beyond stable at speed. turns really well ya just might wanna review counter steering again. my cousin just came off a z1000 to one of these and he loves it and doesn't find he misses much handling wise, that said the power gain is awesome.

    I love the looks of the original V-Max 1200, and I applaud what the designers of the new VMAX tried to do, but I just can't get into its looks. As an artist and long time motorcycle enthusiast I find the new design to be an odd caricature of the original. Everything from about mid-seat rearward looks goofy to me, and some of the stuff up front looks odd too. Oh well. Maybe they will have another, better, iteration in the future.

    Bring the price down to "reality" and Yamaha might have a bike that sells like the Vmax 1200 did.... Way to pricy and too thirsty for 90% of the possible buyers. Thanks for the review, it helps put buying this bike into prospective - not. I have a HD Electra Glide and a Honda 1500 Goldwing so the VMax 1700 is NOT wide or heavy. Btw, the R1 your rode was faster in the 1/4 mile.

      Ronnie Ritchie
      Think of it this way. No other motorcycle is known by name like the Goldwing. Harley is a manufacturer's name. Same with Ducati, BMW, Triumph, etc. There are manufacturer clubs, like BMW club, HOG, etc, but the Goldwing has a Goldwing club that is huge throughout the USA and a magazine that has people's names in it to help you in local areas if you break down. But alas, they never get called just like the Maytag washing machine mechanic.... Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA) is unlike any in America because it is specific to the model within the manufacturer's brand.... There is no Sportster Club, BMW K1100LT club, Triumph Rocket III club, throughout the world besides the ON LINE clubs, but there is a GWRRA club!. The GWRRA club is unique as the Goldwing is today. In 1976, I bought a Kawasaki KZ900 over the Goldwing. Bad move... But, I fixed it and now own a Goldwing. I will always own one until I give up riding and that includes a trike conversion!!! Keep the Wing and sell your neighbor to the highest bidder - kills two birds with one stone - neighbor gone, money in your pocket (if your neighbor is worth anything).. ha,ha...

    Well I don't claim to be a riding genius I'm an adventure rider, I specialize in riding places people don't normally go and come home. It was my first time riding this bike and it just didn't fit me, it was too wide and heavy. Very hard to turn, it didn't impress me much and I couldn't really use all that power it had where I was riding it. To me its just a novelty bike. I've got a 750cc turbo bike and I have much more fun on that.
