As a man of similar age, I feel your pain about working in the heat. I just can’t hang in there like I used to. I must compensate by taking frequent breaks. “What a drag it is growing old...”

I am a retired mech engineer living in Houston. After Beryl, we lost power in this heat here. I had very minimal damage, but I had to use the leaf rake to clean up the yard. It only took about an hour, and i was cooked. At 74 my brain tells me I can do it, but my body screams in protest. I really enjoy watching Jeff do what he does. He is a wonder!

    G'day Jeff,
You need some shade & a nice cold refreshment on the job , makes a difference on those stinking hot days.
    But it's coming along nicely,
I'm sure we're all looking forward to the other side just as much as you are .
Made for a great episode, thanks Jeff.

I have always preferred cooler weather myself. I have always been told. You can work and worm up. But you can't work and cool off. We don't handle the heat well at all as we get older. And doing that job alone is hard enough if you have perfect conditions and equipment. Doing what you just did alone is torture. Joe, you're still tougher than most people today. It's how we were raised. These poor, soft generations behind us are really going to be lost when we retire. Who's gonna build things and maintain them if nobody wants to work today. Great video Joe and hopefully the other side goes more smoothly.

    Well Jeff,
that “trunnion” chain grab hoisting, was the “cats’ meow”, that damn crane sure was not your friend. Jeff wins, Jeff wins, Jeff wins..! It has been noted already numerous times by your viewers to take it easy in that heat…, was happy to see that that rusted bolt got you stop work at that point.., least for a couple of minutes…, hahaha..!
Stopping and getting a 30minute nap in can sure be beneficial. I know, I know…, you types of guys don’t have the word “nap” in your vocabulary.
    Great video,
    Thank you sir.

The heat will absolutely suck the life out of you. Be safe out there and make plenty of trips to garden hose.
Are you contemplating fixing the crane issues before tackling the other side? My experience with splitting wood says the chunks just get tougher to split the more they dry out. It may have some cracks but I would use em again myself. Have a great weekend, Paydirt!

Jay, while I never have liked working when it’s so dam hot that I can do some crotch pot cooking and there is a river of sweat running down the crack of ass, I much prefer it to working wearing long underwear, sweatpants and sweat shirts and insulated coveralls (aka my Bunny Suit) because invariably I will start to sweat and snot will then start running out of my nose like Niagara Falls and besides I always break far more bolts when working in weather cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey.
That said get yourself several of those neck cooler things (you know the the things that have water adsorbing beads in side a cloth tube that you can soak and put in a freezer or a bucket of ice water. Also whenever you can work under an umbrella or tarp to shade you from the sun and as silly as it might sound a box fan never hurts.
All that Bull💩 aside just think when you start on the other side of KillDozer it should be a whole lot easier because now you know what you are doing.
PS since you still have to do the other side why isn’t it dripping in PB Blaster, Kroil, or my favorite a mix of ATF, Marvel Mystery Oil, Diesel/Kerosene, real essence of Wintergreen.
Lastly drink water, I have a rule that when it is barking hot out that I drink a quart of water every hour and if I don’t pee every two hours than I drink enough water until I pee every two hours. I also am a believer of taking a good multi vitamin every evening and one or two beers after I have finished working in the heat while I am soaking my hot tired body in a tub full of coolish water because for about 45 minutes or so and if you don’t drink beer drink sugar free Gatorade while soaking in the tub it really does help

Jeff, you are being too hard on yourself. I thought the way all of this RUclips worked was when you did a good job fixing something the armchair experts give you hell for not doing it right. You're taking all the fun out of it for them by being hard on yourself. But, that's actually a dang good idea to deflate their enjoyment so now maybe they'll give you hell for taking away their fun. Who knows? Hell, you do more before breakfast than most people do all day. Ease up and enjoy life.
