    The Ford at the end will be worth a small fortune today! I remember watching this video agricultural college back in the 1980's. I never forgot that "You've got to know your tractor, you've got to know your ground". Another saying after college was, You've got to know your beer, you've got know your pub!

    I so remember this from college!
    It's true that agriculture is the most dangerous industry.
    I have never forgotten some accidents
    A farm worker going through the crust into the slurry as the barrier had never been put back across the entrance and another was a lad getting his groin pierced and pinned between the 3 point linkage and a muck spreader.

    These and other safety adverts remain fixed in my mind from the late 70s early eighties . Remember the girl with the long hair and operating a vaccy tank , the kid drowning in the slurry pit ,gate falling on kids and kids swallowing vet drugs and screaming in the night . It was a hard watch but very effective as 40 years later i still remember it clearly. Driving 2wd tractors is an art on steep land .

    Lol this is so bad every tractor brakes going down hill one thing I was always thought don't touch your brake on a hill if the tractor does run away just keep it in line and don't turn your wheels tractor will sort itself out the engine will brake the tractor enough and then it will help slow the tractor down but I do give them credit it does show what can happen

  • @DonaldFraser-c9v
    @DonaldFraser-c9v Месяц назад +2

    I remember watching this film as a student at agricultural college back in the 70s, it certainly made you think twice about driving on steep and sloping ground.
    My closest to overturning was on a 2 wheel drive Ford 4610 many years ago. It was a loan tractor as my regular tractor was in the local dealers for a warranty repair job.
    I was coming back home from feeding cattle on a farm we had just rented at the time. I had to make a right hand turn that doubled back 45° up a hill. Well I had noticed that the foot throttle was a bit sticky on the tractor but didn't think it too much of a problem.
    When I tried to slow down as I was about to take the turn but the throttle wouldn't shut down the engine revs and it was stuck at nearly full revs, and there was no way to make the turn I was attempting to make at that speed.
    I panicked and tried to straighten up out of the turn attempt and I succeeded but not before the tractor had 2 wheels up off the road.
    I don't know how I did it but I got all 4 wheels back on the road safely without the tractor overturning, after that the foot throttle and its linkages were well oiled before going out on it again.
    The safest tractors on hills I ever drove were Same Explorer and Antares models as they had true 4 wheel braking on their 4 wheel drive tractors.

      I drove a neighbours Zetor back in the seventies and was very impressed with it. Nice big warm cab, plenty of low end torque when pulling a slurry tanker, it even had an air compressor for pumping up tyres. Those drivers shouldn’t have been allowed anywhere near a tractor, they are just maniacs,quite clear to me they weren’t brought up on a farm.Hopefully no Fergies were hurt in the making of this film..😊.

    • @JonDingle
      @JonDingle Месяц назад +3

      Most 4wd tractors do not have front brakes to 4wd will not help going down a wet slope. A low gear obviously would until the load pushes the tractor beyond the point of loss of traction and into a slide.
