love it how triang even after all these years puts hornby to shame. Whilst hornby stock looks modern, shiny and accurate, the mechanics are somewhat screwed and prone to serious failure. Great video and always impressed with these old diesel sets of how reliable and tough they are.
Good to see your expertise working on such an old model. I would imagine it dates from the late seventies. I remember Arnotts in Glasgow and I think they closed in the late nineties along with Pettigrew and Stephen’s. Both providing the same type of services
My Grandad bought me the same set, although the 1973/74 edition and I still have it to this day. Everything is still there, although the track is no longer any use, due to its condition. The class 31 still runs and I also have a second same loco that I bought second hand as a non-runner for £10. It now runs beautifully after a I gave it a full service. It will always be my special set, due to it being the one that started me off on my model railway journey all those years ago.
Little Dan had me laughing !!! However this would make you about 60 yrs old lol The only thing missing would be a triang p5 controller, with its inherent special smell....
What a marvelous set, Dan. And, what a clever idea it was to use magnets to increase traction for the loco on steel track. I always get a kick out of the cranes with working booms. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Dan: an example of this set was my introduction to the world of model railways. I still have the class 31 and most of the wagons. As I was born in 1965, my parents must have bought it for me in the late 60s. Your video has brought back happy memories. As it happens, I've just serviced it. Mine has the little warning sticker you mentioned still in situ, and no trailing bogie pickups. The brass screw that goes through the magnet had sheered off, so I replaced it with one from a scrapped Hymek. Now it's once again pulling wagons around the layout.
Uncanny only yesterday I serviced a Triang BR blue 31 from a Freightmaster set, Replacing the brushes are a pain, don't you agree. Merry Christmas Dan!
Hi Dan. Wow brings back memories. All I had when I was a kid was 0-4-0 later class 37. Only two locos I ever had as a kid. That box what lovely history with it. Don't know how you remember where everything goes after dismantling it all. Great loco. What a nice assortment of wagons. Thanks Dan. Happy Christmas and fantastic new year to you buddy. Pete
Hi Dan, If you need to replace the plastic wheels of those wagons with metal wheels, what size would you recommend for an HO layout? I have a Freight master with a class 37 and I can't find suitable metal wheels for the wagons. Appreciate any feedback. Thanks and happy holidays to you and the family.

I got this for my 9th birthday in 1966. It started my affection for model railways!

I had the blue D5572 version for Christmas in the early 70s, and recently got a mint in box green one from a model railway show.
