    • @h1tzzYT
      @h1tzzYT 2 года назад +15

      @@lucasf4rt523 you are technically correct but you forgot the most important factor. Thermal density, the smaller cpu die is and the more power it consumes the hotter it is and the harder is to dissipate that heat. Thats why some cpus such as HEDT cpus has no issues running above 200w, meanwhile something like 5800x will be extremely hard to cool even with top tier air cooler such as nhd15.

    • @h1tzzYT
      @h1tzzYT 2 года назад +7

      @@lucasf4rt523 also very good example is gpu cooling vs cpu cooling, gpus can be cooled at 300W without big issues with air cooling, while in most cpus at 300W you are looking purely at water cooling territory, thats because cpu die is much smaller than gpu.

    The 12600k is very nice indeed. I bought a 5600X in 2021, when the 12th gen was not available. Honestly I don't regret it, because despite the lower performance, it tops around 70W and 62 C with a cheap air cooler on benchmarks such as prime95, nearly half of the power consumption of the 12600k on demanding workloads

    under rated content! I also am having trouble pushing the 12600k to its TDP and potential. I have a feeling it is software capped to make the 12900k more desirable. My Gigabyte bios is very vague when it comes to overclocking though. I cannot seem to push the clock past 49 for some reason... another hint that its all a software cap, I have the decent mobo.

    This is dope. I ended up upgrading my i7-2600(non-k) and 16gb of DDR3 at 1333mhz to a i5-8400 and the same Corsair DDR4 memory you have except 32gb at 3000mhz. It also came with a low profile Noctua cooler and Z370 Gigabyte board for all for around $150 used through a local seller. He was upgrading to Alder Lake, and I'm glad to get it from him. I mainly use my PC as a combination of a test bed, media center, and gaming. I'm still on a GTX 1050 2gb, but thanks to the CPU and ram upgrade. I was to play Halo Infinite at a stable 1080p 30fps😂. I couldn't get 60fps at any other scaling or resolution. Halo Infinite is very ram intensive including Vram intensive.
    I'm just happy you upgraded similar to me. I tend to have a better go in the used market. Hope to find maybe a Nvidia or AMD workstation card like the Tesla M40 12gb to hopefully upgrade my setup cause the even though it had no display ports. I can use the iGPU or UHD 630 of the i5-8400 now to pass the display data of the Tesla M40 when setting any graphical program to high performance. I'll hopefully upgrade to that if the RTX 3050 8gb doesn't end up tempting me.
    Like your videos. Keep being the smooth gentleman you are. 😊

      Try upgrading to a 8700k, the hyper-threading can really eliminate stutter in some modern games like Cyberpunk. 6 cores alone isn't enough anymore sometimes. Gamers Nexus had a video about it.

    • @amightygrizzly
      @amightygrizzly 2 года назад +4

      @@JamesSmith-sw3nk I've been thinking about that. My brother has the i7-8700(non k) and 32gb ram at 3600mhz. I got the i7-8700 years ago by trading an office PC to a guy so his folks had one and paying $100 instead of his priced $200.
      My brother been using the i7-8700 for a while. Based on the performance seen here by the Alder Lakes, that might be a good upgrade for him cause he edits a ton. The only thing that concerns me is the TDP. Not because of the thermal output, but because of power draw. He's a guy who will run a PC 24/7...'sighs'...and happens to never clean his case or components. Nothing wrong with done dust, but 'whew' it's insane though. But I honestly believe that an even slight higher TDP will make just a bare minimum amount of thermal output that will set his PC on fire.
      Either way, he is an editor for others(which makes me look at his system and I wonder how much he cares for his job). And if he ever bites the bullet for an upgrade. I'm gonna see if I can get the i7-8700 I got a while back into my system. Then he can sell his motherboard and my i5-8400 making him his money and me getting a 6core with hyper threading.
      However, I'm not gonna be down his throat either about it. It's just something I'd like to bring up as a future idea to him and to see if he is up for it. It's just when he upgrades eventually. I'd would just like to have the CPU is all. I ended up building his whole editing system by the way. I'm just not an editor in anyway. And also, I have a GTX 1050 2gb right now. So upgrading to an even better CPU for more headroom wouldn't really make much of a difference in the grand scheme of things.

    The only thing I might need to ugrade is the ssd as I have a sata ssd and I want to go nvme... but this is already so sweet since I have to use this system almost everyday for many hours.

    Hey man, how much did you spend on the cooler? Cuz from what i see, the single fan version of the fortis 5 is priced similarly to the fera 5 dual fan and even from the pictures i can tell its much bigger (i was suprised that it was a single tower, and not a double tower with a fan in the middle)
    And btw, speaking of similar pricing, are the gigabyte gaming x boards priced near the price of the msi pro in your country? I plan on getting a build like that, and i found that aside for the cheaper asus prime that doesnt look that appealing due to less m.2 slots and poorer i/o, there are 2 options, a gigabyte gaming x board, and the msi pro one, so, what do you think about the gigabyte gaming x, and is it worth buying over the msi pro? (Or the aorus elite in that matter, because ts the same pcb just with some bigger radiators and a lit up logo to make it look better, even the websites with info about the gaming x and the aorus elite are the same to the point that they forgot to switch the numbers listing the features so on one of them, thunderbolt and intel 12th gen support were switched and the tb was listed on the socket and 12th gen support was listed on an internal usb c connector)

    Not long ago I upgraded from my i7 2600K@4.4GHz, Asus P8P67 PRO B3, 4x4GB DDR3 1600 RAM. Had been using this system from 2011. I upgraded to a Ryzen R5 5600x with 32GB DDR4 3200 RAM. My i7 2600K was still working nice for my needs, but I noticed after the upgrade my machine felt more responsive for regular use. And in Borderlands 3, using the same GTX 1070 I had been using on the i7 2600K from 2017 I noticed a huge difference. In the BL3 benchmark the i7 2600K was just a few frames behind the Ryzen. But when playing the game I had to turn a lot of settings down on the i7 to mostly keep 60FPS and avoid stuttering. And even then it would drop to 30-40FPS when alot was going on in the game. Whilst the Ryzen was rock solid at 60FPS, at much higher graphics settings, would never drop below 60FPS and felt alot more smooth. So huge difference. As fantastic as the i7 2600K was, ugrading to an entry level platform like the R5 5600x did make a huge difference for gaming at least. But the i7 2600K is still legendary. I had it for 13 years. that's some serious value.

    So base clock of non-K intel CPUs are in range of 2 GHz and for K it's in 3 GHz range. While boost clock is almost same ,generally at a 100 mhz difference at around 5GHz. In benchmarks both K and non K CPUs perform very close.
    What does the base clock signifies?
    I mean what's the benifit/con of lower base clock? Why non K CPUs have much lower base clock than their K counterparts
    I tried finding good answer on this but didn't found a perfect answer anywhere, see if you know.
    I wanted a 12700 non K but base clock id low

    • @FullyBuffered
      @FullyBuffered  2 года назад

      The base clock is the all-core clock speed at which the CPU outputs the listed TDP (thermal design power). Non-K chips have a lower TDP (like 65W for the i7-12700) than K chips (like 150W for the i7-12700K) and therefore the base clock for non-K chips is lower. So in practice (using stock settings) the non-k chips will run at a lower all-core frequency when under load.

Let's see when it arrives if I can get it up to 5 GHz. 204€ board 178€ prossesor and 138€ for 16GB DDR 5 total is 517€. Will be upgrading from an x5675 @ 4.5ghz so should see a difference with a 1070ti

    I was rocking a ryzen 5 3600 but it began having bsods at random, ive talked to rma and sent it to Florida but idk if they will aprove it, I was thinking in upgrading to the same chip that you have, but I still have my b550 tuf and the ryzen 5600 looks like a great option imo, eitherway I'll be waiting for the RMA

    I'm watching this right now on the 2600k and the exact same MB P8Z68-V PRO that you just upgraded from. So I guess it is finally time to upgrade to. I really don't want to run windows 11 at this time. Is it possible and easy to disable the e-cores in the bios for compatibility with windows 10? I haven't found the answer to this since I can't find videos showing alder lake MB bios's. I might go for an i7-12700 to get 8 p-cores for premiere. If there is no easy way to disable the e-cores in the bios then I will have to buy an alder lake cpu without any e-cores. Thanks for your help and thanks for the video! This is finally a very exciting time that took intel way to long.

    I have SilentiumPC Fera 5 (single fan) cooler on i5-11400. With unlocked power in synthetic load (prime95) it can draw up to 144 W peak, 130 W average and even with 28 C room temperature and closed, poorly ventillated case temperature of CPU didn't even hit 90 C (60 C delta above ambient temperature).
    Dual fan offers very little performance boost over single fan while increasing noise level (according to internet tests), so I picked the more silent(ium) option. Did I mention my fan curve is tweaked down? It's barely audible at full load while not thermal throttling in bad case/ambient scenario.
    Meanwhile my friends are listening to their fancy, expensive AIO pumps.

    interesting how long will take that middle video cards will cost $300 as in past. generation middle starts from x1.5 of consoles' performance 6700xt. previously 2-3 years from new consoles appearance was enough to come to this, those are passed but prices keep be crazy. other middle level hardware is also overpriced in 2-3 times. monopolism is bad

    It's great value and a deal, but budget is different. The 12400 with a non overclocking mainboard (B660) is a good budget build because the single core performance is still very high. You can almost buy two of those for the price of 12600k+z690 :)

    are you actually gaming at 1080p...if so, that's a bit uh, well ya no wonder you see a 50% increase in performance? That's not really helpful information in 2022. At the root of it, essentially the question everyone wants answered is/was, is it worth the cost of a cheap used car, to potentially gain yourself ten frames per second on 1440p or higher resolutions where the CPU is not the bottleneck
