    • @TIMSPCBRIS
      @TIMSPCBRIS  8 месяцев назад

      Yeah but there is diminishing returns on above 4gb. This is why I used it as an example.
      See beyond 4gb its kinda more than the Radeon 7 can handle. You can get 128gb ram and allocate 64gb ram and its still just gonna run like the Radeon 7 with 4gb of ram. More VRAM isn't just "more performance". Graphics card/GPU performance depends on a variety of measures. VRAM is one out of 5 key metrics that when combined give you an understanding of their performance under different workloads. Radeon cards come with more VRAM than nvidia cards because people don't understand graphics card specs and they know like 1/5 people atleast will just think "more VRAM = more FPS in fornite"
      They see a benchmark of a game that is optimised for Radeon and they see it compared to an unoptimised nvidia card and they see the VRAM difference and they are like "yep, look at that bro, more VRAM on the Radeon card vs the nvidia card so VRAM = peformance"...
      Its a SMH moment for me lol.

    • @iku7630
      @iku7630 8 месяцев назад

      @@TIMSPCBRIS oh I did not mean it like that though. Most motherboards seem to limit the max assignable VRAM to 4gb and it is not clear before buying if it let's you assign more. So even with 128gb you cannot assign more than 4gb if the motherboard/manufacturer does not let you. It's not interesting for gaming, but it might be interesting because you can use other kind of applications which need 'VRAM', like AI models. It's not ideal of course, but it is a lot cheaper than buying a 16gb or better gpu.

    I have just purchased a new PC, which should be here by next Monday. The new PC has a Ryzen 5 5600G processor, 32GB Corsair Vengeance 3600Mhz DDR4 memory and a Gigabyte B550M-DS3H Micro ATX Motherboard.
    Would that be enough for the AGP, in terms of shared memory? If so, what sort of performance do you think that I am looking at in games, particularly modern games, such as Bogwarts Legacy and Marvel's Midnight Suns?
    Would it be worth considering replacing the Vega 7 GPU with a 1050TI, or would it make more sense to upgrade to a higher end GPU, such as an RTX 3060 TI?
    My other question is, what's the main difference, in terms of actual video game performance, between having an AGP with 16GB of dedicated Vram in the BIOS, and, say, a 12GB RTX 3060, for instance? It strikes me that you could, theoretically, have a video card with 32GB dedicated VRAM if you had 64GB of memory. Surely that would outperform, say, an GTX 1070 with only 8GB of VRAM?

    Thanks for pointing this out (I could not find it) but unfortunately with the latest BIOS of today this results in the system rebooting into the BIOS again (without me pressing Delete). I tried several sizes, also with the "above 4G" setting disabled again and only 512MB set, it doesn't matter.
    [Edit]
    OK, I noodled around with this some more and found that enabling "Above 4G Decoding" and/or "Re-Size BAR Support" was the problem. When I leave those disabled and only use the first four options (IGD Video, Forces, UMA Specified), I can set the UMA Frame Buffer Size no higher than 2G but then the system boots normally and it does work. I could not go higher than 1920x1200 in Max Payne 3 and now I can go to native resolution of 2560x1440 75 Hz which is nice!
    [Edit 2]
    It may not be related to "Re-Size BAR Support" as such. The BIOS (FEb) is just faulty. It appears whenever I enable "Re-Size BAR Support", all my potential boot devices are gone and this causes the system to boot into the BIOS. This was reversible a couple of times by reloading a stored profile but at some point this no longer worked, it didn't bring back the boot devices. Messing around with CMS Support did not bring them back either. The drives were recognized alright, as shown in the Easy Mode display, they just did not show up in the boot priority or boot override lists (these were just empty, not listed as disabled, just no lists, only headers). I had to re-flash the BIOS (manually from the BIOS, the button on the back no longer worked either) and fortunately then they were back. All profiles were lost though (contrary to what Gigabyte states, that profiles should survive a BIOS update).
    My board is a B550 Aorus Elite V2 Rev 1.2. I'm not too thrilled about this board/BIOS so far.
    Another thing: there are some constraints/prerequisites for enabling Re-Size BAR as outlined on an Intel page you can find by searching for "What Is Resizable BAR and How Do I Enable It". If you do not have the problems I have and Re-Size BAR actually works on your system you may still need this information.

      @@TIMSPCBRIS No.

    • @TIMSPCBRIS
      @TIMSPCBRIS  11 месяцев назад

      That's why your drive isn't booting to windows though, its because you have to have CSM off to adjust the vram allocation for a 5600g or similar. Turn off CSM and reinstall windows@@MartinMaat

    • @MartinMaat
      @MartinMaat 11 месяцев назад

      @@TIMSPCBRIS OK, let's unwrap this.
      The default setting for CSM is enabled with both sub-settings set to UEFI Only. The machine boots just fine with this. It's a new machine with nvme ssd, I don't think the Windows installer created an MBR partition. I see all my drives plus whatever I have plugged in for USB sticks in BIOS boot options.
      Only after I toggle that BAR option, *all* drives disappear from boot priority and boot override lists and I don't get them back by toggling the BAR option back and whatever CSM setting. Recovery using the button on the back then no longer works (no blinks after pushing and holding it, no response at all).
      This leads me to believe the BIOS messed up big time, overwrote itself somewhere, crippling it's functionality.

      Hey Hoppy,
      So make sure you are running the latest BIOS and also make sure you are enabling re-size bar support.

    • @aussiemanreacts

      Guys a BIOS update is risky because if you lose power it can brick the motherboard. But calculate the odds of losing power. Its a pretty low risk. Avoid beta versions, but I will tell you that if you aren't seeing more than 512mb then its a bios related thing or you havent enabled anove 4g decoding or something.

    Hey, I've got 16gbDDR4 ram and ryzen 5 5600x with gigabyte b550mds3h ac, the problem is there is no integrated graphic option in the i/o config. I've looked everywhere i am unable to convert my ddr4RAM to VRAM

    • @TIMSPCBRIS
      @TIMSPCBRIS  2 года назад

      That's because there's no integrated graphics on the 5600x. No AMD CPUs have onboard graphics unless they end in the letter "g"

    great video but do you know if it is possible to do it on a graphics card because my 3050 have a total of 20gb and only 8gb of allocated GPU memory and it's really annoying when training neural network because it need a lot of GPU memory

    • @TIMSPCBRIS
      @TIMSPCBRIS  Год назад +1

      Yeah so that's not actual VRAM (shared memory), that's system ram that in a pinch will be utilised as extra VRAM. RTX 3050 has 8gb of GDDR6 VRAM only, this is what shows up in task manager as "dedicated" GPU memory"
      This video is about adjusting the amount of system ram allocated to the onboard Radeon 7 graphics that you can find on the Ryzen 5600g or 5700g for example. If you have a discreet graphics card, this video isn't really for you, by default you already have extra system RAM allocated as VRAM and you can't adjust the "dedicated GPU memory"
      My suggestion is sell your 3050 and buy a 3060 12gb card....

    I have the same motherboard and a Ryzen 7 5800x, and MSI RTX 3070 trio. I don’t have the integrated graphics option in my bios and have no clue how to change vram. My pc says my vram is at 0.

    • @TIMSPCBRIS
      @TIMSPCBRIS  2 года назад +1

      So this video is about adjusting the VRAM on APUs like 4650g, 5600g, 5700g etc. You have a 3070, so if you want to allocate more RAM to serve as VRAM you will need to download the bios update with the resize bar function
