Three years after the introduction of the hardtop version of the MINI came the Convertible, a vehicle that once again rocketed the Cowley-built but Munich-bankrolled car onto the must-haves list. Two versions were on offer from the outset; the entry-level 90bhp MINI One Convertible and the sporty 116bhp Cooper Convertible. A few months later, MINI surprised everybody by launching the supercharged 170bhp Cooper S drop top. Demand was strong, although, as with any model that is a fashion item, demand can drop off as quickly as it ramps up and with newer rivals now rivalling the MINI Convertible in terms of high street chic, now could be a good time to pick up a cut price used bargain.
    History
Rather than delve into the long and vaguely irrelevant history of the original Mini, Year Zero for the 'New' MINI starts at April 2001. Built at Cowley in the UK under the auspices of BMW, the MINI was wildly successful, starting in base One and Cooper guises and spawning various hotter versions as well as a diesel and a Convertible. Its replacement was unveiled late in 2006 to replace this model, but this fact may have escaped many uninformed consumers.
BMW figured that there was little benefit in changing the exterior design a great deal and instead concentrated on making the MINI easier to live with. With better engines, more interior space and the addition of a Clubman estate version in 2008 to augment the hatch and convertible models, the MINI's star remains in the ascendancy.
An entry level First models with a 75bhp 1.4-litre engine arrived in 2009.

Probably the best mini R 56 review in the world thus far,
    Even better than Top Gear.

Ive got a 12 year old R56 Cooper S out here in India. 2012 model. Lovely little car indeed. Great fun even if one just burbles along at mid level speeds.

May be off topic but need advice. Can buy a 2011 Mini off a lady going through a divorce for $3,000. Fax looks good from what I can tell except one minor accident 4 years ago that rear ended a car and set off air bags. Grille and bumper was replaced and repainted. See nothing that worry’s me other then it has 170,000 mikes on it. $3,000 a good buy? 2011 Mini automatic a good car?

5 yrs ownership. Zero major repairs. Only maintenance

@@touchedouche8806 you must have got a good one, and as stated. Maintained proper. Generally speaking the type of people that buy them like then because they’re cute & have zero interest in cars.

@@angrymuffinsb maintained properly is the key to most cars. And there are certain cars that never seem to be maintained properly for whatever reason. (Sport derivitive cars being the most common) and of course since they are 'sport', they are driven harder than normal

What mileage was yours on? I’ve just bought one 66k with FSH, so I’m hopeful it’s not full of problem!
